Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This is such a lovely place to stay. We can't rate it high enough. The staff, without exception, are so friendly and welcoming, so helpful, it's so refreshing to have this excellent service. The place itself is lovely. We felt completely relaxed and refreshed by the time we left. Can't rate it highly enough. The only thing we had a problem with was the vegetarian/vegan options on the menu, as they only had one vegetarian and one vegan option. Apart from that it was fantastic and we will definitely be staying there again.

We met up with friends for a meal in the restaurant and overall were pleased. Three of us went with the roasted cauliflower and baked cheddar soup which was enjoyed, the other being the duck liver parfait which was also enjoyed. For the mains, we all went with the roasted bronze turkey, served with chestnut stuffing, glazed parsnips and carrots, excellent roast potatoes and thyme jus. We all enjoyed it though the turkey was a little on the dry side. We had to limited our drinks given the hour or so drive home but the ladies enjoyed a glass of champagne, my mate an alcohol free G&T and me a beer. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient which added to the meal.

Absolutely lovely. Stayed for one night after visiting Waddeson Manor for the Christmas Market. The room was cosy and the bathroom a bit on the small side but absolutely fine. Beds very comfortable, clean, nice view of the garden from the window in our room. Staff absolutely wonderful, very attentive. Smart and comfortable bar area which is clearly frequented by locals as well as hotel guests. Breakfast delicious and with great accompanying music. Overall 10/10 definitely recommended.

Went to The Five Arrows Hotel with my husband. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We combined our stay with going to Waddesdon Manor for the Christmas fair and light show. The hotel itself is small but has everything in each room you need. Ie hairdryer, iron etc. The room was decorated very nice and was clean. Food in the evening was lovely, tasty and served well, again the staff were welcoming and happy to help with anything you needed. There’s plenty of space if you are travelling to the hotel by car to park in their car park. The hotel itself is situated on a main road but you cannot hear the cars from your room. Had a lovely time and would recommend the hotel.

A group of friends from different parts of the country met at the Five Arrows to celebrate very significant events in some of our lives. The hotel is absolutely lovely - very calm atmosphere and ambience - the staff were very welcoming, cheerful and friendly - I stayed in one of the suits which I felt was very special - large, clean and comfortable. Inevitably, events began to over take us with the result that our plans kept changing - 1 person was ill, another had a flat car tyre... At each point the staff were unbelievably understanding and helpful - they accommodated our changing arrangements with a smile and helpful advice which seem to make things easier and smoother for us. So from me - thank you very much for being so welcoming, friendly, accommodating and helpful.

First time staying at the Five Arrows but hopefully not the last. Staff all very welcoming, helpful and professional. Room was a good size, we had Room 5 which has a large balcony which would have been nice in the summer. Very comfortable bed. High standard of furnishing in the room, everything clean as you'd expect. We ate in the night we stayed and the food was superb. A couple of little downsides, our room did face on to the front and the main road so there was some road noise, which might disturb a light sleeper? Breakfast was fine but not as exceptional as dinner. The last perhaps something new I hadn't spotted before but realised a discretionary tip had been put on the room bill, personally I feel this should be in the upfront bill and not as a discretionary which you are less likely to spot at check out, and even less likely to quibble about at the desk. That all said I really hope we get back again.

The staff were courteous, friendly and helpful, and probably it is reasonably priced. But the hotel itself is more like a pub with rooms. There was no lounge area to meet and have a drink. I asked for a quiet room and was put on the top floor but the room was almost on top of a busy road. The windows were filthy and covered by secondary glazing which is old fashioned and hardly helped with the noise. It was raining, so they misted up totally. The net blind when I pulled it down was filthy. The bathroom was fine, and the bed comfortable, so the room itself was perfectly ok, and had coffee and tea making facilities and an iron and board. The food was all right, but could have been a bit more adventurous. I wish we had been told there was a wedding scheduled for the next day, as we were flexible about dates, and the noise of the wedding party the night before meant we had to shout to hear each other speak. The breakfast was extremely rudimentary. The coffee quickly got cold, and there were only supermarket low fat yoghurts which were not good. I had to pick up more butter and jams for my friend and me, a little bit more attention to presentation would have been welcome. It is in no way a boutique hotel, and considering it is situated at the entrance to Waddesdon Manor, it should be better.

Stayed the one night and were in an annex building. RECEPTION: Arrival - Mixed service from the reception team. When booking in the service I was excellent, every efficient, polite, friendly and swift service. When the booking was made we weren't sure whether we wanted breakfast or not, but was advised to book it and if we changed our mind we could tell them on arrival and it wouldn't be a problem. On arrival I told them we would not be having the breakfast and were told that would be fine, they would update the system. Checking out - Again the receptionist was polite and friendly, although appeared a bit unsure on how to process things. She asked if we were having breakfast, we told her that we had informed the hotel that we weren't and this had been recorded yesterday when we booked in. We told the lady that we would not be paying the optional service charge and explained the reasons for this, which she stated understood why. However we were then given a bill for the room, breakfast and service charge. I pointed out that we hadn't had the breakfast, she just said we could have it. I pointed out we weren't paying for the breakfast as we hadn't ordered it. She seemed confused and I pointed out the cost to pay is for the room, so the service charge and breakfast needed to come off. After another five minutes she still couldn't get the system to give us the correct bill and stated she would have to contact the kitchen to work out how much to remove from our bill!! We explained how mush the breakfast cost 2 x £15 - £30. Still they couldn't work it out. ROOM: We had a very comfortable room which overlooked the car park at the rear of the hotel. The bed was very comfortable, there was a tv, nespresso coffee machine, kettle, tea and coffee etc (only one chocolate sachet), limited items. It appeared as if the housekeeping hadn't topped up the items from a previous visit, which we only noticed when we had returned late at night and used the items. Good quality toiletries, comfortable and clean bathroom. Although we were at the rear of the hotel you could still hear the lorries travelling along the A41 during the night. The building is probably listed which would make it difficult to improve the windows. Although the room was generally clean, it was let down by cobwebs and thick dust higher up in the room around the rafters area. No doubt this had been overlooked but easy to address with an extending duster. WOULD WE STAY AGAIN: Yes we would. If the room had been cleaner, tea/coffee stocked correctly and if we hadn't had the issue around the bill, we would have given five stars.

We stayed as a party of 4 adults in two rooms (5 and 9-a suite) All staff were super friendly and professional. The food was slightly hit and miss - not quite fine dining and a bit over priced. Food was presented very well. It was crazy to order breakfasts on a sheet the night before- please do t do this! I’ve no idea what I want to eat until I sit down. If you want an uphill but lovely walk into the grounds of Waddesdon manor then just follow the wooden/ yellow signs “circular walk” which takes you from hotel across a field and right to the Main house. Even if you decide to drive into the Manor grounds, you will discover that the actual car park is even further to walk ! They do provide a shuttle bus. An important warning- the hot water in rm9 is scaldingly hot in basin bath and shower - really dangerous and not climate friendly! I have mentioned this to the staff. Take care! The road noise ( even on a Sunday morning) is quite a problem- it’s the main A40 ! We like our windows open at night, and our room was as far from road as you could be. Rm 5 has a super wooden large balcony - but it’s on the corner and overlooks road and side. Unfortunately a kitchen staff member was regularly smoking below here in the early morning, and the awful smell made it impossible to use the balcony. Please don’t allow staff to do this? I think this place is very good- probably 4.5 stars from me. As an aside, we were horrified at all the nearby destruction of the lovely countryside in the surrounding 30 -40 miles or so for HS2 construction and new build housing everywhere. Waddesdon manor itself was just amazing. Like a massive French chateaux.
