Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Alston was our halfway point on the Coast to Coast Cycle. 13 of us in total! We had our evening meal at the Cumberland Inn. Food was great and staff very friendly and accommodating with us all arriving at different times 😊

We went here for dinner and loved it. Big roaring fire. Home cooked meals with fresh veg and plentiful portions. Prices very reasonable. And a big thank you to the lady (Deborah?) who served us. She was very warm and friendly.

We visited as a family of four on a Sunday evening - lots of choice on the menu (including several veggie options) all the food was home cooked, portions were generous and service efficient. We booked ahead the day before and not sure they would have had room for walk ins. Cosy pub environment with great local beers too, would visit again if we’re back in the area

Stayed here for one night whilst walking the Pennine Way, the rooms seem a little tiered but everything was clean and comfortable, the staff were very helpful and friendly, plenty of choice of food and drinks. Only slight criticism would be to get some blinds or curtains up in the eating areas, as the sun was shining when we stayed and it was quite uncomfortable at meal times. Apart from that I would definitely recommend , great business

Family run hotel. I arrived after a hard long day very tired off the fells. Landlord immediately offered me a hot meal even though kitchen closed as was after 21:00 on Sunday. Absolutely life saver. So friendly & welcoming. Excellent full English and prepared a pack lunch for my walk to Alston. Thank you so much.

Stayed here on our charity Pennine Way walk with a group of friends. This hotel is tired and in need of a refurb but I give it a max score because the staff/ owners are fabulous. They couldn't do enough for us. The food and service was great. Would definitely stay here again. 👏 👏👏👏
