Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A group of ten of us went for food drinks and received an excellent meal for great value in an excellent setting. The staff were helpful and both the beer and the lunch was served quickly even though there weren't a huge number of staff on shift. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone considering.

We are finishing our last night here after a two night stay. I must say how helpful staff have been, we were running late and would miss dinner, but when we spoke with them they cooked us up a lovely dinner for when we finally arrived and a warm welcome. We have an electric car and was running a little low and again the staff couldn’t be more helpful even contacted her friend to offer a charge if we couldn’t get a public charger working.

We visited as a family of four on a Sunday evening - lots of choice on the menu (including several veggie options) all the food was home cooked, portions were generous and service efficient. We booked ahead the day before and not sure they would have had room for walk ins. Cosy pub environment with great local beers too, would visit again if we’re back in the area

We stopped overnight on our C2C cycle ride. All of the staff we met were very welcoming and helpful. My room was comfortable and spacious, with a good shower. Both dinner and breakfast were good, with the fish pie at dinner deserving a particular mention. (If given the option, I would add a "+" to my overall rating.)

We went here for dinner and loved it.
Big roaring fire.
Home cooked meals with fresh veg and plentiful portions.
Prices very reasonable.
And a big thank you to the lady (Deborah?) who served us. She was very warm and friendly.

Alston was our halfway point on the Coast to Coast Cycle. 13 of us in total! We had our evening meal at the Cumberland Inn. Food was great and staff very friendly and accommodating with us all arriving at different times 😊

Family run hotel. I arrived after a hard long day very tired off the fells. Landlord immediately offered me a hot meal even though kitchen closed as was after 21:00 on Sunday. Absolutely life saver. So friendly & welcoming. Excellent full English and prepared a pack lunch for my walk to Alston. Thank you so much.

This super little hotel nestled in Alston was our saviour when our car broke down. Guy was so welcoming and friendly, he helped us in our hour of need. I have no hesitation in recommending this delightful place. The rooms were clean and the food delicious. Well done Guy and team. Special thanks to Chelsea at the bar for revealing her secret stash of chocolate!!
We will return under different circumstances.

Stayed here for one night whilst walking the Pennine Way, the rooms seem a little tiered but everything was clean and comfortable, the staff were very helpful and friendly, plenty of choice of food and drinks. Only slight criticism would be to get some blinds or curtains up in the eating areas, as the sun was shining when we stayed and it was quite uncomfortable at meal times. Apart from that I would definitely recommend , great business
