Sat having a wonderful full Cumbrian breakfast whilst writing this review. We started the coast to coast and this was I first overnight stay, arrived a little later than expected and the landlady had rung us to make sure we were ok, a nice touch and highly appreciated. Finally arrived wet and in the dark to the most wonderful welcome...

Odd place this! Way off the beaten track unless you're walking - and what a fantastic walk it is round Ennetdale!!! - and looks a bit old and uninspiring both when you arrive and when you sit down. However the welcome very warm indeed - my 8 year old daughter who's a bit obsessed with playing at cafes at the...

Stayed here for the first night of my C2C. Arrived soaking wet and they were great at taking my wet things and putting them away to come back next day dry. Traditional pub with a pub that served a nice dinner and a great breakfast. On the route which is an added bonus. Excellent start!

Although this is called a hotel I think a pub with rooms would be more accurate. We travelled as a group of 7 walkers and thoroughly enjoyed the range of local beers (it is Camra listed), excellent food and log burner in the bar. The proprietor and staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and our rooms were comfortable...

We ended up dining here all three nights due to an uninspiring choice at the fox and hounds down the round. Food was lovely on each occasion. I can recommended the steak and ale pie. A proper pie with proper pastry! Good filling puddings Well served beer and great friendly staff who were very helpful. We couldnt have asked more...

We had a group of 12 friends on a reunion staying in the local area for a long weekend and we eat here twice. The menu is varied and interesting, very well priced and I have to say excellently prepared! All the dishes we tried were delicious. I have not been to this part of the lakes before but plan...

Would highly recommend. Beautiful place, great rooms, excellent evening bar food, nothing was too much trouble - including securing our 11 bikes overnight! Very clean, great breakfast. No negatives to report - we'd definitely return.

This is a great place to stay. We had a lovely room with our own private bathroom (but not ensuite but you get dressing gowns), the beds were nice and comfortable. The room is tastefully furnished with a lovely view over the local countryside. The room had all the usual facilities one would expect. Unusually we were able to turn...

I found it very difficult to find anything on the menu that attracted me! It really didn't have much to offer! I opted for the only thing I thought I might like! It tasted ok, but was nothing special! The service was very slow, but the staff were pleasant!- which was really the only bonus! I would think twice before...

Fantastic food and hospitality as always. I guide a Sherpa Expeditions trip twice a year and the Shepherds is one of the best hotels en route. Thank you again for all of your help and I look forward to the Steak and Ale Pie next time You really do know how to look after guests and give a great example...
