Travellers' Choice
The Boot Inn nestles in the tiny hamlet of Boot, deep in the heart of the Eskdale Valley. Within easy walking distance of The English Lake Districts largest and most majestic fells, yet only 7 miles from the sea. We provide first class food, drink and accommodation with nine letting bedrooms, bar, conservatory and snug areas, we also have ample car parking and a large beer garden. The inn itself has been catering for the hungry and thirsty travellers since the 17th century, offering a selection of traditionally kept cask ales, fine wines, sprits, continental beers, soft drinks and excellent food. At the Boot Inn we endeavour to source as many of our ingredients and most of our produce locally including the almost legendary cumberland sausages. Everybody is welcome included our four legged friends. With real log fires for those chilly autumn, winter or even summer days, a warm welcome is always guaranteed. The valley provides a wealth of opportunity for outdoor activity with Scafell, Great Gable, Harter Fell, Bowfelll, Crinkle Crags and many others all within walking distance without having to cross a single road! Cyclists can pitt themselves against the Hardknott and Wrynose passes, the steepest section of road in England leading to the Duddon Valley and Langdale. For those of a more spiritual and historical interest there is to be found the remains of a Roman Fort in the upper reaches of the valley and the beautiful 14th century church of St Catherines only a short stroll away. Slightly further afield attractions such as Muncaster Castle and Eskdale Golf Course are close by.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a delicious Sunday dinner after climbing great gable on Remembrance Sunday with friends. Great beer and friendly staff too. The meat and vegetables were all cooked to perfection, topped off with a home made Yorkshire pudding. Will definitely return.

A great place to stay if you want a warm welcome in a great location for exploring the Western Fells. Fantastic food, great specials in addition to the standard menu. Very dog friendly too! All the staff made a big fuss of our dogs and the sausages at breakfast were a big hit!

Nice size room, clean and tidy. 30 minute drive to Scarfell pike for hiking. No TV in the room but there is a TV room where you can go. Internet a-bit hit and miss. Shower is in the bath not much room to get in and out but managed it, if you are unsteady on your feet would not be ideal. Very basic double bed not very comfortable. Staff very nice, overall enjoyed the weekend. Breakfast was very good food was the best.

After a wonderful walk through the fells and a swim in Burnmoor Tarn, we had a very welcome drink in the beer garden. Staff were warm and welcoming and the bar had a lovely atmosphere. We'd booked elsewhere for dinner but the menu looked very varied and delicious.

We had a lovely meal here. Check out the daily special as there are lots more options. There is a playground for the kids to run around in when we have our drinks. We originally made a reservation in another pub but when we passed this pub, we decided to cancel the other booking and dine here instead. Other regular campers from our campsite said it is the better of the two.

This is an excellent Robinson’s inn. Great food, great value, fine ales, great service and a wonderful location. What more can you ask for? It’s an obvious choice for passengers travelling on the lovely railway L’al Ratty. I had the chicken supreme Caesar salad and it was the best I’ve had. Chicken was succulent with a full breast and thigh. Happy dogs had some I couldn’t manage.

Lovely place to eat. The staff are very friendly, food was delicious (best pie I’d ever had), and plenty of seating out in the garden to enjoy the sun! No booking was needed which was ideal as we didn’t have signal anywhere to call ahead! Will return here on our next visit to the Lakes!
