Superb pub, extremely clean, lovely food and great beer. Wonderful location and dog friendly. Beer garden at rear and ample parking in the town, which is free! Will certainly use again when in Lake District. Nice to see old fashioned pub hosts offering guests a smile upon arrival.
Amongst the range of pubs in that area of the Lake District it is one of the best we have visited. We booked in the morning and stopped for dinner with the dog. The welcome, service and food was excellent and if you are hungry even better. If you want good value it is a good choice.
Had a lovely two night stay here with our dog. Super friendly, great food, comfy comfy beds. Plenty to see and do in surrounding area. Dogs are very welcome and there are some lovely walks in the area. Will definitely be back.
We met a friend here for lunch and what a delight. We were made very welcome and the service from everyone was excellent. I had the mallard as the main course and it was delicious and extremely well cooked and presented the rest of my party had the trout and were similarly impressed. We will certainly return.
Just back from my first (won't be the last) visit to The Old Kings Head, and I am delighted to say it was a complete success. Fantastic value for money and faultless in every category. I was particularly impressed with the work ethic and attitude of the staff, all were so helpful and seemed to enjoy the challenge of looking after the grumpy public. My bedroom was excellent, our dinner was first class and overall it was a really pleasurable experience. 10/10 - well done to you all.
Great value, quality of bedding and mattress fantastic, that is very unusual.everyone very friendly, evening meal was great, wife wanted extra hot sauce on burger, not a problem. Breakfast first class, would book again without hesitation. Phil and Alison Moses
We visited for lunch on the way up to the Lake District with our two children and our dog. I had the beef burger and my husband the jerk chicken burger. Both amazing. Presented really well tasted so good. Lovely big portions as well. Warm welcome and great food. What more could you want?
Wow! We have just called in this pub. We were staying nearby and drove through this little village previously. We have called in for a family meal. The kids burgers are all home made and are gorgeous, delicious fries not over cooked or burnt cheap kids meals at all! I had turkey Xmas meal, the turkey was not dry and was one of the best I have ever had. My husband had a cajun chicken burger, which was delicious 😋 No photos to show as all our plates were empty. Staff were very friendly and accomadating to children. We don't have any dogs, but dogs were all very welcome too. Would highly recommend and will 1000% be returning to try something else on the menu.
Just had the most gorgeous meal from the 2021 Festive Menu and it was AMAZING so well presented and cooked to perfection. I could eat off this menu every night -especially worth a mention is their version of a chocolate orange brownie just sumptuous and encased in a 1st class choux pastry. The best I have ever had. Oh and the OKH has a lovely cosy friendly Lake District welcome
We were staying nearby and just wanted a quick, but good, dinner. We had a warm welcome, the young women who served us were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. Two of us had pizza which was delicious, and the other two had roast pork which was one of the best pub roasts ever.
