Situated at the foot of Muncaster Fell amidst five and a half acres of natural fellside and gardens, Forest How enjoys spectacular views across the Eskdale valley. Set at the end of a quiet lane that crosses the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, you can leave the car and walk straight from the house or take the steam train up the valley to Boot or down to the coast at Ravenglass. For the outdoor enthusiast, the area is a haven for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. If you head out for the hills and are unfortunate enough to get caught in a shower, we have a spacious drying room so that all your gear will be dry and ready for the next day’s adventures. We also have secure cycle storage. Frequent visitors to the gardens and surrounding fields include roe deer and red squirrels and you may spot a barn owl at dusk, circling the field for food.

Polly and I have just had five lovely nights at Forest How. The breakfast was superb. Our room was immaculate. The host Corinne was fantastic. The views and wildlife were amazing. Great drying room for your walking gear and Dog friendly. We can't recommend highly enough. Thank you James and Polly.

Stayed for a couple of nights while exploring Eskdale. Situated away from the road but near the Ravenglass railway. Room was comfortable with a view over the garden. The one we had was fairly small. Breakfast was fine with the bonus that red squirrels come and visit while you are eating.

Red squirrels watching you eat your lovely cooked brekkie! Veggie options. Amazing setting with orchards, woods and gardens. Very dog friendly, unusual for a guest house ❤️ Nice extra touches, packed lunch had surprise dog treats and the biggest gooey homemade flapjack. Will be back!

The location is perfect. Lovely tranquil spot off the main road. To get there you cross a bridge over the enchanted narrow guage Ravendale and Eskdale railway line. The Irton Rail Road Station is beside the main road. There is an enjoyable bridal path running past the front of the house leading to numerous beautiful walk options, even without needing a car. Our room was very clean and confortable. It overlooked the garden with wonderful views. Breakfast was superb. There is an extensive selection to chose from for an individual experience. We availed of their packed lunch and was not dissapointed with the quality or quantity of what was supplied.

We had such a lovely time staying at Forest How! We went in the hope of seeing some red squirrels, and happy to say we got to see them up close! The breakfast room was a lovely place to see them running around, and the gardens/ woods outside gave that same opportunity. Beautiful place! Our room was clean, cosy, and had lovely views! Corrine and her daughter Kate are very welcoming, and little extras - such as delicious homemade flapjack in the room were a nice added touch! Felt very at home and would recommend the place to anyone. Hope to visit again!

We mainly saw Corrine - one of the owners - during our stay and she was absolutely lovely. The breakfasts were plentiful, cooked from quality ingredients and extremely tasty. We bought homemade packed lunches from Corrine and these were equally as tasty and plentiful; especially the homemade fruit cake and flapjack! Our rooms were charming, very clean, comfy beds and the views from the windows were outstanding - mountains, forest, birds and wildlife galore! We were lucky enough to spot a female deer one evening and then two adolescents running across the field on another evening. Every morning, we were entertained at breakfast by adult and baby squirrels. And birds... wow... Corrine laid out a massive feast of seeds, nuts, fatballs, etc. for every type of woodland/forest bird and boy did they make the most of it! We literally saw - in droves - every type of woodland/forest bird there is in the UK; a pure delight to witness. If you like peace, quiet, a comfy bed, delicious breakfasts, lovely hosts and lots of wildlife, please do not hesitate to book here.

A friendly relaxing place to stay. We stayed for our wedding anniversary. The weather was lovely, We were made to feel welcome. We were the only guests that weekend as the hosts mother who makes up 50% of the team was away visiting family. The Victorian guest house is secluded and the tiny steep lanes to it a little daunting first time. The food was 1st class and plentiful. The wildlife and garden are stunning. We intend to return. This part of the Lake District is more secluded, peaceful, a lot less touristy and less expensive than say Windermere, Bowness etc. We advise to book in advance if you want to dine at one or both of the local pubs.

Beautifully appointed and very comfortable guest house situated in a quiet, off-the-beaten-track location ideal for a quiet getaway in the Western Lake District. The hosts offer a friendly welcome and allow guests full use of the on-site facilities including a guest lounge equipped with TV, DVDs, books, maps and games. The bedrooms are very comfortable and bathroom facilities are excellent. Breakfast is a full-English banquet that will set you up for a whole day's walking or sight-seeing in the beautiful surroundings of Eskdale. An added bonus is the chance to see numerous garden birds and even red squirrels from the breakfast room windows. We can recommend Forest How without any reservation.
