It would be so easy for a campsite to detract from an setting that must be as close as England gets to a wilderness. However, this site sits respectfully in its environment in a simple, nature-compatible way and is is thus all the better for it. Lighting is minimal at night (so bring good torches), but conversely this means that... More

A well run campsite in a stunning location surrounded by mountains. The site personnel were very helpful and informative, the facilities were pretty good. There was a small shop for any essentials you may need. The excellent Wasdale Head Inn was a mile or so up the valley. You can't take your vehicle on to the camping pitches so you... More

This is a well run campsite in a stunning location. I was in awe of the view from dawn till dusk. Getting here is not for impatient - access is via several miles of single track road with passing places. The campsite is quite large but separated into glades so it never looks regimented or sparse. Nice thing about NT... More

Firstly, the good points. The camp site is in a stunning natural location, next to Wastwater and the mountains loom over the site. Even in the mist and rain of our visit, the view was simply beautiful and awe-inspiring. The other campers were friendly and unobtrusive, with several families including young children. The washing-up area is well respected and clean... More

Brilliant! Just spent two nights there. It is beautiful and so quiet. The man on reception was really friendly and helpful. The shop is open mornings and evenings. Plenty of hot water in the showers though an extra hook or two inside the cubicle would be helpful. A 10 minute to the local pub (beware if you are allergic to... More

I was 18 when I last stayed at this campsite. It was lovely then with good facilities. As you would have imagined the facilities are more up to date but the area remains protected and as beautiful as ever. We made it to the top of Scafell Pike before and did it again with a lucky window of weather giving... More

My partner and I have just returned from a 3 night stay here over August Bank Holiday - First thing we took note of and loved was the freedom to pitch wherever you choose (provided that you are the correct distance away from other campers). One thing to take note of is how damp the ground is when choosing your... More

Our family of 4 stayed in a family pod - it was our first time 'camping' and can honestly say it will not be our last. The pod was a good size - fitted two double airbeds and all our bags with ease, it had lights, a heater and a good size deck area, which was lovely to watch the... More

Stayed at the national trust campsite because of its proximity to sca fell pike. Booked a camping pod. It was an enjoyable stay and quite novel to be in a wooden hut as opposed to tent. The campsite was well maintained with clean shower/toilet facilities. Though I couldn't help but think that for the price there could have been a... More

We had a really enjoyable five days at the Wasdale National Trust Campsite. I can safely say it is the nicest campsite I have ever stayed at! The booking process was nice and easy. We were a bit concerned about how busy the site might be, as we were arriving on a Saturday in the school holidays and were informed... More
