Went here for lunch after a hike to angle tarn. Good portions of food so would recommend eating here after a long hike. Reasonably priced food too! Good views of the mountain side and sheep whilst having a drink. Be careful on the way out as it goes straight onto the road.

A really pleasant, heart warming experience. Good wholesome food, with excellent sized portions. Lovely helpful table service by a girl called Ella. Couldn’t do enough for us, a credit to this Inn. The owners went out of their way to make us feel at home. Rooms we had were clean and tidy. Lovely old building with a quirky homely character, thoughtfully created by its owners no doubt. Can’t wait to return in October. Thanks to all the team!!

Filthy hole. We arrived to a car park and beer garden with a caravan in it - in hindsite this may be where the staff live. The chef and his helper were smoking a cigarette on the bench on the side of the road. We were desperately hungry so ventured inside… there were flies everywhere and the place was filthy, we persevered but left without eating. The carpet and decor that are mentioned in some other reviews must exist in a different dimension as this was next level, as in environmental health level. Avoid.

Ashley and Andy thank you for your kindness to my niece and I when we finished a day of our coast to coast adventure at your pub. You really went above and beyond and I can’t thank you enough. Breakfast was fab too! Will definitely return next time I’m in the area x

Food was really nice but that’s were it ends… The host and atmosphere was poor to say the least. This country is famous for substandard service but the White Lion goes below and beyond that chalk line. The manager/host was rude and to be frank, looks like he just can’t be bothered. Threw the greasy paper menus at us and grunted “what do you want!?” No polite conversation, no smiles, no personality. It’s not as though the establishment was busy either. It’s also probably the reason why. A truly lamentable experience… one which I’ll never repeat.
