Wish I'd phoned up and asked first, but you don't expect a pub in The Lakes to not have even a small area of one of the bars for those wanting lunch and accompanied by their dog. Cannot remember the last time I was refused entry to a pub or hotel bar with my dog - yes, we are often asked to sit in a separate area or in the bar area and not the restaurant. About 85% of the people who visit the lakes seem to have a dog, the patterdale hotel is missing a trick here. They allow walkers with muddy boots but not dry clean doggies. The girl who threw me and my dog out didn't even smile and apologise when I pointed out that he WAS a Patterdale terrier, so surely he could sit quietly in the bar?
This hotel was recommended by a friend and we are so grateful for the referral. On arrival we had such a warm and friend greeting, felt right at home straight away! Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they were all super friendly, professional, well presented and genuinely cared that you had a wonderful stay at their hotel. Quote honestly, I’ve stayed in many a 5 star hotel and not had such good service. The rooms were spotlessly clean, all ensuite with plenty of hot water and towels. This 2 star hotel is well punching above its weight and is the perfect ‘down to earth’ place for walkers to stay. The ambiance of the hotel is very relaxed and friendly (guests included!); go in with muddy trousers and you will be greeted with a smile. We stayed half board (breakfast and 3 course dinner) and thoroughly enjoyed all of the yummy food. All was good, honest, home cooked fayre, nothing fancy but absolutely delicious, very generous portions and fresh. One of the highlight for us was ‘what’s on the menu tonight’…that’s how good the food was. We also loved the option of paying for a packed lunch, which we did twice on out stay; again freshly home made. Location wise, this could not be better placed for big hikes or ore gentle strolls, such amazing views and walks literally on the hotel’s door step. What more could you ask for?! Looking at some reviews, yes, the hotel may be a little tired but tall perfectly functioning and is part of the hotel’s charm and what makes it such a lovely, down to earth fantastic place to stay. We would heartily recommend to all and will definitely be booking again!…
Had another fantastic week at the Patterdale ( mark and ange - mclaren720s) once again every aspect of our stay was perfect, all the staff are so polite and food is second to none when you consider how little it costs . Met some lovely people and look forward to bumping into them again- especially 96yrs old Arthur and his friend CJ 👌
Stayed Mon-Fri on hotels special deal. Quick book in and we were upgraded free. Adequate room with view across valley. Great food and nice restaurant staff. Friendly bar staff and prices in keeping with the area (quite expensive when compared to home). All in all we had a great stay and would visit again.
Don’t overlook this hotel when looking for somewhere to stay in Patterdale. Yes the clientele is of an older generation over 60, but then my husband is 60 and I am 58. But it does mean that there are no slamming doors or screaming children at night. The people who stay are walkers, and people who love the area. The hotel is basic no fancy bottles of shampoo or bottles of water or biscuits and it could do with a bit of an update but saying all of that the rooms are clean and there is tea and coffee making facilities and soap/shower gel on the side in dispensers. They have a bar and lovely lounge area to sit. The staff are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The customer service is extremely good. Now the evening meals well, I have stayed in some 5 star hotels and not had the variety every night as you do here. Each night the 3 course meals and the choice was fantastic. The value for money too, you didn’t feel you were being ripped off. The drinks were good value too. Yes it was a bit rushed but if you wanted a bit more of a break in between courses then I am sure they would be more than happy to oblige. There was a good buzz about the place and everyone there seem to be having a good time. The breakfast was also good each morning. We stayed in a room at the front of the hotel so we had a lovely view. We would definitely stay here again when we were going walking in the Lakes. Definitely fantastic value.…
