Broadoaks Country House Hotel is nestled in a beautiful and handy location near Windermere, with grounds that captivate guests. While the hotel's unique charm and romantic atmosphere earn praise, especially for its well-appointed rooms and spa baths, some visitors have reservations about the value, citing occasional overpricing.
The service at Broadoaks Country House is often lauded, with many finding the staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. However, attention to cleanliness and maintenance in rooms has been noted as an area for improvement by some travelers.

We spent two nights at Broadoaks staying in Walnut - a large accessible room accessed straight from the car park via a ramp. This was part of a wedding party.
The room had a large walk in shower; Japanese slipper bath; TV opposite the bath; starry lights in the ceiling; a super-king white four-poster bed and tea/coffee making facilities along with enough space for a wheelchair. The whole hotel was then accessible from the room. It was definitely a luxury room.
The wedding ran smoothly thanks to the hotel’s wedding organiser and staff. It was lovely to have the whole place to ourselves for the two nights. The rooms were perfect for all the different parts of a wedding - ceremony; wedding breakfast; disco & evening event. Above all else the food was a step above the normal standard for a wedding. With a choice of pork or fish & chips the meal was exceptional. All served efficiently and by friendly staff. On the first night the curry was also a great meal for everyone to share.
The grounds, fountain, reception rooms and outside seating were perfect backdrops for the wedding party and with staff eager to support, I would recommend Broadoaks for a wedding. We had a fabulous time - magical. Helped of course by the weather!

We had our wedding at Broadoaks on the 29th January 2024 and despite the rainy weather we had an absolutely fantastic time! We had the best day we could have possibly imagined and it was mostly all down to the staff at Broadoaks. No request was too much trouble and this didn't go unnoticed by ours guests too! So many lovely comments from our guests made regarding staff and the hotel in general. It confirmed to me that we had 100% made the right choice choosing Broadoaks for our special day.
The grounds of the hotel are so beautiful with a real country feel which are wonderful for photos. As you walk through the main door to the hotel you really feel a warm, homely sense and it instantly gives you a sense of calm. The wood paneling and old fashioned furnishings give a romantic feel and were certainly a talking point among guests.
Personally, I think the best thing about Broadoaks is the Orangery. You walk in, to notice the floor to ceiling windows and glass roof. Although it isn't a large room, it feels open, but cozy. With lots of light, even on a cold rainy afternoon in January. This was the room we chose to have our ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening party in. The turnaround of the Orangery each time was completely un-noticeable whilst we and our guests were enjoying the delights of the Bar & Music Room.
Each bedroom at the hotel has its own individual charm, no two rooms are the same. Some were bigger than others and some have jetted spa baths which our guests loved. We didn't have any guests that didn't love their room during their stay, and they also loved the full English breakfast buffet in the morning.
The first thing that attracted me to Broadoaks was the fact that they have an exclusive package of the whole hotel and all the rooms for your exclusive use, meaning that all of the rooms whether you sell or give them to your guests are yours to do as you wish and cannot be sold to anyone else. We loved this idea as we have been to weddings before where there are other people unknown to you, walking around on your day. Although there are other lovely hotels in the area that offer this too, most are too large with too many rooms to make it affordable if you don't have enough people to fill them. Broadoaks has just the right amount.
We want to thank everyone at Broadoaks involved in the planning and fulfillment of our special day, especially Mel & Dan who both went above and beyond our expectations. Thank you so much 🤍

My husband I had been looking forward to this trip for a very long time, we were very excited to stay in a 5 star establishment with 5 star facilities and 5 star customer services. Unfortunately this was not the case. First for some positives. Our room in one of the cabins was lovely, we enjoyed the hot tub, one of the main reasons we booked and the quiet as what we wanted most was peace. On our arrival we were given vague instructions as to where our accommodation was but ok we found it and settled in. Instructions given that breakfast was between 8.30 and 9.30 in contrast to the info in the room that started 8.00. All was well until breakfast (which did start at 8.00 but we waited till half past due to the conflicting information). So far all a bit disappointing but nothing major, when we did arrive at breakfast there as no one there to greet us and no staff appears for at least 10 minutes after we sat down. There was a very poor selection of continental choices, cereal, yogurt or a croissant was the extent of it. The breakfast was a buffet style no menu or vegetarian option. When staff did show up they were stressed and rushing past. My husband practically had to shout to ask for some service, cold toast and coffee arrived 10 minutes later. No one asked about dietary requirements or if we had any other needs. When staff did appear to ask if everything was ok they literally walked away before we answered. It wasn’t just us either, we could hear tables around us saying order you toast quick or you won’t get it. I could understand if it was incredibly busy but there were only 10 tables in there. It all sounds very petty but I feel like I paid a lot of money to stay somewhere that staff felt it ok to ignore me and give the minimum amount of service.. i could have forgiven it all if even one of the staff members had smiled or even acknowledged us. Not 5 star, ruined our experience and we definitely won’t return, we have stayed in a lot of nice hotels in the lakes, some considerably cheaper than this one with excellent service and food. Give this one a swerve if your after good service.

The hotel and surrounding are beautiful that’s it !!!
The rooms are very small, the gentlemen on reception was rude and very unfriendly and unhelpful….
Wheelchair access it through a room already occupied by someone, or you have to go on the main road to go round d the back of the hotel …..
Food was okay, dog kennels are not welcoming concrete floor wooden hut which would be hot refused to use them….
Hotel very expensive for the amount of time spent checking in 4pm out by 11am when queried the bill was told by reception guy thats what I was told to Charge !!!!! Very unhelpful think I was overcharged by circa £85 over four rooms and just kept hitting a brick wall when questioned!!!!!! Will not be returning …

Firstly, we would like to say that the staff were lovely, bright and helpful. We were very pleased with the service and the dining experience! The food was delicious and the speed of service was perfect. However, we had a few issues with the room. We chose to pay a bit more for The Boudoir room as this was part of our honeymoon trip. The website is very misleading in the description of the room.
It was described as ‘private rear entrance and driveway’. It wasn’t very private as there were people walking around the area for a while, on the driveway and entrance, and it wasn’t clearly marked as ‘private’ so they would not have known. However, the main issues with the room were the bed and the bath. The bed is described multiple times as ‘the comfiest mattress in The Lake District’, ‘it has, without a doubt, the comfiest mattress in The Lake District!’, and even more mentioned as ‘The eve original mattress is wonderful. Sleep on it and you’ll get the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had. It gives you the type of out-of-this-world comfort that puts a skip in your step the next day. Because, after all, every great day starts the night before’. This is a big statement, and we just hoped for a nice mattress, not the ‘best’ or ‘comfiest’ as it mentioned, but it was actually not great at all. It has a big dip in the centre, which we both were rolling into most of the night. It was ok at best, and definitely not as promised. It was extremely creaky and any movement woke the other one up!
Also, on the website it says a ‘very grand double ended sensory whirpool Spa Bath with flatscreen TV’, ‘a very grand double ended Spa Bath’, ‘whirlpool bath…the hydrotherapy jets work on the muscles let the chromotherapy lighting lift your mood’, ‘our final surprise is the flat screen bathroom TV’ . One, the lights were not working. Two, half of the jets did not work. Three, the drain was blocked and tap was wobbly. Four the settings for the bubbles had been bodged, weren’t even attached to the bath (the whole part could be lifted) and seemed very old. The flatscreen was mentioned, but it was only normal channels, and even then only a few. We tried to use some channels and the signal was not strong enough, so we gave up on that. There were some small other issues as well: a review card was there, but no pen, the blind operator was hanging off, one of the light switches didn’t work, the staff tried to call us to confirm late check out but no call came through and hairdryer was so small it didn’t touch my hair.
As said earlier, the food was delicious though, the staff were brilliant, and we had a lovely time, but the room was NOT as expected, particularly when described overzealously as ‘best’, ‘luxury’, ‘comfiest’ and ‘grand’.

We got married at Broadoaks in October 24, we knew from the moment we drove into the driveway when visiting potential venues in the Lakes that this was the one.
The venue itself is beautiful & has so much charm & character. It’s traditional with a modern twist - each bedroom is unique & detailed, the beds were the comfiest we’ve all ever slept in!
The staff we dealt with were amazing from start to finish - from planning to the day itself, everyone we dealt with were so helpful, polite & friendly- it actually felt like they were part of our wedding party!
We had a small wedding with just 36 guests & it was perfect, so intimate and personal. We had the ceremony & meal in the orangery then used both rooms for our evening party.
The food was amazing & there was plenty for everyone -we cannot fault a thing.
The grounds looked absolutely stunning in their bright, vibrant autumn colours and we had the perfect weather glorious sunshine & bright blue skies which allowed us to have our reception drinks outside & our photographer too us down to the lake for photos.
A special mention to our lovely wedding coordinators Kitty & Issie who made the day run so smoothly nothing was too much trouble & to Taran for accommodating the guests that decided at the last minute to stay over.
We’ve actually just returned from visiting Broadoaks again last night & we felt equally as welcomed and as special as we did on our wedding day.
We can’t wait to return again & make it a regular special occasion.
Thank you everyone at Broadoaks you’ll forever hold a special place in our hearts!

The hotel is small but welcoming. Afternoon tea was nice. Room was rather tired wallpaper was scuffed in lots of places especially over radiator cover which was broken . Taps in bathroom where not fixed and swivelled when using. Soaps were too high to use when in jacuzzi bath. One tiny toilet roll . Had to use tissue in the morning.lots of toothpaste marks on door and wood areas. Fan in bathroom was disgusting very dirty and corners on bathroom floor had been missed. Tv remote had no print on button so process of elimination for controls. False fingernail found on floor and generally didn’t look clean. Bed was comfy but had the worst pillows we have ever had they were so thin and flat I had to fold in half. And still had worst night sleep big gap under door could see sensor lighting outside going on and off. Food was ok service was very nice lovely staff. Breakfast was disappointing as there was no veggie or vegan options.

An amazing and special venue, with a team of people that go out of their way to help. Whilst planning our wedding we had either Mel or Ava on the end of a call or email at anytime, giving us peace of mind, chatting about ideas and helping with their experience on guidance for plans, invitations, etc. We were lucky to enjoy two days for our event with all our guests coming the evening before as a meet and greet, and we enjoyed a gorgeous and very tender lamb hotpot. Our special day started with a breakfast that offered everything, and then we readied our selves for the main event. Ava was our chief coordinator and kept us informed and on point at all times, with a real caring hand and tons of encouragement. At all times discreetly we were asked about little pointers to ensure not only our enjoyment but that of our guests. Ranging in ages from 4 to 94 we had some pretty key demands which were managed so gently and conspicuously. The event was a huge success with so many compliments, especially on the rooms, which are so individual and creative (I've never heard so many discussions about 'my bathroom ...'!). One final shout out to the best receptionist we've had the pleasure to meet at a venue - Taran, you were key to us and our guests being made to feel welcome and well looked after at all times. You seemed ubiquitous behind the desk, and our initial chat when I first arrived helped me feel calm and peaceful. Thank you to a great team, Ava, Taran, Luke, Mel and all the others that seemed to blend in to the surroundings but always available when needed, you all helped make our wedding a special day that we will never forget.

My partner took me for a night at Broadoaks to celebrate my birthday where we stayed in the Boudoir suite. The pros were the hotel is lovely and the staff were very friendly, in particular Jazmin was exceptionally nice to us. Most of the food was nice as well. I must say the staff were all very kind to our dog as well and gave her lots of attention. The downsides for us were the room was not clean in places, the cakes in the afternoon tea were not very nice and one tasted strongly of Basil! (The rest of the afternoon tea was lovely). Finally we ordered the wine pairings but for the main we didn't receive the wines so eventually asked. Usually I wouldn't be bothered but when you've ordered wine to go with a meal and you've ate most of it.... Overall I would say Broadoaks is a great hotel and I would happily stay there again but there's definitely room for improvement.
