We stayed for 3 nights in ‘Little Fell’ double room. The room was beautifully furnished and well equipped. All fixtures and fittings were top notch. The double bed was very comfortable, as was the room temperature. The view of the fells from the room was very fitting and put us in the mood for a Lake District walking holiday. Breakfasts were fulsome and delicious and set us up for the day. Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. We walked from the inn each morning, the Cathedral Cave and quarries are awesome. We thoroughly enjoyed a delicious 3 course evening meal on our first day, with quality cutlery and crockery, not to mention linen napkins. We love this attention to detail and appreciate the effort made to make our stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. Many thanks to the team and we will be back, I have no doubt.…
This is a lovely friendly ,well run inn. It has been tastefully refurnished by the new (2 years) owners who have put their stamp on the place with flair and attention to detail. All the staff work extremely hard to comply with Covid regulations which do not interfere with the customers enjoyment. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean. There are a number of well kept ales and the wine list is affordable and thoughtfully selected. Both owners, Tony and James have tasted them themselves! Together with The food Which is excellent with good quality locally sourced ingredients. We worked our way through the menu and enjoyed every course! We certainly hope to return on a regular basis.
Had a wonderful two night weekend break (2 couples). The inn is situated in the fantastic Little Langdale valley in the heart of the Lakes and is prime location for walkers wanting to be situated near the Fells. You can do several walks straight from the Inn itself so no need to worry about driving and parking. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was modern and looked as though it had been recently refurbished. The rooms were modern yet retained the character of the country inn. We only booked dinner for one night in the restaurant - we had a late lunch the first day so didn't bother with dinner. The food, both at dinner and at the breakfasts, was excellent and the staff were super friendly and efficient. The only slight disappointment, and it certainly didn't affect our enjoyment, was the bar can close a bit early (eg 10pm) if there are no customers in but we ordered drinks before it closed and enjoyed them relaxing in the comfortable residents lounge. Definitely be back.…
Nestled in the depths of glorious undulating Cumbrian countryside is this wonderful inn with rooms. We have our friends to thank for this recommendation and it surpassed our expectations. Our room was a mini suite. It looked like the rooms had been recently refurbished with lovely modern bathroom with bath and shower, very comfortable bed and pillows and quality furniture and fabrics. Some of the plugs had very useful additional charging points. Tea and coffee provided and you can ask for a flask of fresh milk. Residents have access to a comfortable lounge where we spent many an hour chilling out before and after dinner. Breakfasts were tasty with a good choice of full breakfast, kippers and eggs royale. We had dinner here on each of our night’s stay and really enjoyed the venison, lamb and sea bass. The team are very welcoming and made us feel at home. Only observation is that there are no hooks on the bedroom or bathroom doors to hang up the towelling robes provided and your coats.…
Have just had our third stay at the Three Shires Inn and cannot fault the hotel in any way. The staff are always very welcoming and the food is amazing. I am really surprised to read a couple of recent negative comments as my experience has been totally the opposite. Will be going again without a doubt.
We really enjoyed our one night stay here on our way to Scotland, the location is amazing and the pub provides a place for local walks (pub has a map). We loved both meals - dinner and breakfast. Room was super comfy and quiet, and refurbished bathroom was clean and practical. Excellent value for money. If you can only spend one night in the Lake District, a stay here will give you the best of it. Would come back anytime.
We stayed over Easter weekend. The room was immaculately presented, clean with a lovely little outdoor area next to the brook. Really lovely. The location is gorgeous. Super views, lots of walks on the doorstep and a lovely garden with the babbling brook. We found all the staff very friendly and helpful. It was clear that the whole team are working very hard, presumably due to the staff shortages in the hospitality sector. All I can say is well done. I can’t be easy and you are all doing a great job. I thought the food was very good. Good quality ingredients, skilfully and freshly prepared. Cheese soufflé was outstanding and the haunch of venison was the best I’ve ever had. Breakfast was good. Loved the poached eggs. Loved the fruit. Just a couple of very minor negatives, truffle flavour spoilt my wife’s mushroom on toast, she hates it! And I didn’t enjoy the porridge, I am not sure how it had been prepared, maybe some added cream. Others may love this, but perhaps mention it on the menu.…
We popped in hoping for a late lunch before visiting the caves, which we'd found out about from the Three Shites Inn website, which highly recommend its pub as an ideal location for several walks from its location. When we arrived, I had a slight sense of foreboding due to the number of abruptly worded signs - residents only on the verandah, no parking unless you are staying in the hotel as a guest and NO HOT DRINKS. I therefore smiled widely and entered the building hesitantly and waited by the door while the receptionist ignored me. I then asked if I could ask a question to make it clear I was respecting him and he barked at me that he didn't want me on his carpet if I wasn't a resident and to come in the other entrance. I was a bit startled but did as he asked without a murmur. I then waited patiently by the bar for him to turn 180 degrees from the reception to the bar area and said I KNEW we couldn't park in the car park but wanted a bit to eat and then to go to the caves so could he recommend somewhere to park. He proceeded to say that we could not park in his car park (yes, I've just said that) and brushed me aside saying the caves were the absolute blight of the area and he had a business to run etc etc. I let him rant but then politely mentioned that the only reason I knew about them was from his website at which point he reluctantly paused from venting his spleen to give me a White Shires flyer with a map of the walks from his pub and a voucher for 1 pound off the food if you presented the map ( surely the caves are what has MADE his business?). Having been convinced that there was absolutely nowhere in the area to park and that the caves were the curse of the area I decided to leave clutching my map and didn't even bother to ask about lunch.........the man is a legend - honestly visit the pub just to meet him! I've just read the other reviews here after my experience and we've had 10 minutes of howling with laughter! Of course, we visited the caves which are excellent!…
We visited this pub as it was highly recommended to us. The place is in a lovely location, the seating area outside is pretty and the overall impression from the outside is amazing. We smiled with excitement. We are a happy and friendly group of friends and we always strike up conversations with staff and other customers wherever we go, making people smile and laugh. Sadly on arrival we did not receive a hello or even a smile. We felt the staff member behind the bar was unfriendly, unwelcoming and that he was merely doing a job. On top of this, the food was over priced, the atmosphere was flat and we didn’t feel welcome at all. In fact we felt we were an inconvenience. We apologise for cancelling our booking and leaving but we did not feel comfortable. We prefer places where staff make people feel valued, have banter and show interest in their customers.…
We stumbled upon this place after a long walk, and what a great find. Stunning location and an outdoor seating area which was exactly what we needed on a nice sunny day. We both really enjoyed our meals. I had the burger which was gorgeous and really well priced. We would definitely return when in the area again.
