We had a three day break in Wasdale to celebrate my birthday. The weather awful, although photogenic most of the time, but the service at the Strands Inn more than compensated for it! I do not know how Leslie & team can work all the hours in the day and night and still stay friendly and helpful! The food is very good, their beers are excellent- very much looking forward to tasting their gin, when their distillery is up and running. We visited the Strands Inn between the lockdowns and felt very safe, all the conceivable precautions were taken care of.

Stayed 2 nights in this lovely Lakeland pub. Lesley and her team were so friendly and doing a fantastic job of making sure everyone felt safe during the covid crisis. Very welcoming and helpful. Very comfy room. Superb meals. Loads of great vegan options and hearty portions. Great service. Beer is wonderful, especially Red Screes which was simply gorgeous! Lovely breakfasts and great packed lunches for fell walkers. Altogether great value - we will be back!

Great base for exploring the quieter side of the Lake District. Our recent stay was during the COVID-19 pandemic and can confirm that Mark & Lesley managed the government’s guidance very well. If you do stay here don’t go without trying the beef brisket burger, it’s the best burger I’ve had in my life, even beats ones I’ve had in the states.

Second of our two hotels we stayed at. We were welcomed by the landlady and all the Covid conditions clearly explained. Our room was more than adequate for our needs with lovely bedding on our comfy bed. Down to the bar to be greeted by Mark the landlord who explained the different beers that he brewed and served, so we settled down to enjoy the excellent beer on offer in a characterful bar before ordering a meal from the extensive menu. Portions were generous, piping hot and absolutely delicious. Breakfasts were what you wanted, from full English to toast and marmalade with everything in between. The pubs are situated in a beautiful area, so if you’re looking for comfortable no frills accommodation with top class beer, food with excellent service at the right price, head here, you’ll find it hard to beat.
