Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

What a fantastic find..... Scales Farm is not on Booking.com or the likes and thank goodness it is not. This is a hidden gem and Ivan and Helen the hosts are the loveliest people you could meet and very welcoming and accommodating. We booked one of the outside accessed rooms which are dog friendly and no need to worry about noise in this old building - the walls are solid and what a good sleep we had each night. The breakfast is 2nd to none and the location is also 2nd to none. You have views for miles and can plan your walking day just by pointing at where you fancy with a few following tips and pointers from Ivan (in fact he knows the Lakes inside out and has a map for every walk in the Lakes). I couldn't recommend this quaint little place enough - go soon before Ivan and Helen retire - WE ARE! P.S. They also have a fantastic outside accessed and internally breakfast room accessed disabled adapted room (with parking). We looked at this for our Mum who will also be visiting soon to enjoy. Great little friendly pub next door too - fantastic food!

We were made very welcome, right from the start. Really great lemon cake and a lovely cup of tea. The room and bathroom were spotless. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was superb and very well cooked. A good choice of cereals, juices etc. The cooked breakfast was cooked exactly to our liking. Thank you to Helen and Ivan.

The location and the rooms were perfect . The room was comfortable and spotless. The hosts Helen and Ivan were extremely helpful and friendly . They are very knowledgeable about the area form restaurants to mountain and walking routes! On checking in we were given tea and coffee and cake which was really appreciated after a long drive ! The breakfast was excellent . A comprehensive breakfast menu choice and cooked to perfection. Definitely will return when we go back to the Lake District ! Scales Farm is set in a beautiful location .

Really lovely guest house. Large, clean bedroom, breakfast was excellent and the hosts were very welcoming. Will definitely be back. Lemon cake on arrival was a lovely touch, and very welcome after a day on the fells.

I have stayed here a fair few times now and every time I have felt welcomed and well looked after, Ivan and Helen are a lovely couple who are always willing to help, chat and be social while also leaving you to your own devices if you'd rather some peace and quiet (like me), really easy going and not in your face , this is my go to digs when I'm in the Lake District. Oh yea breakfast is top notch 10/10

We received a very warm welcome from Ivan (Helen was away at the time) and felt at home straight away. Our room was very clean and comfortable with lovely little extras provided, which was very thoughtful. Ivan was an amazing host and his breakfasts were tasty and filling and set us up for the day. Lovely location with a great pub next door serving delicious food. We hope to be back!

We received a warm welcome from Helen and were installed in Room 6 which has a huge Velux window looking up the slopes of Blencathra. The room was large and had a really comfortable bed and a pair of armchairs for relaxing in. The lighting and wifi were both very good, there was a welcome hospitality tray and it is handy to have a fridge to keep water and odds and sods cool in. There is also a lounge downstairs if you want to use it. It's near the A66 but the windows are at the rear and we didn't find the road noise at all bothersome at night. There is plenty of parking. The shower room was a little tight (especially if you are over 6ft!) but there was instant hot water and a really good powerful shower. The breakfast is cooked to order as well as a continental buffet selection - certainly more available than you could possibly eat! For eating out there is the White Horse next door or you can go up to Threlkeld or Keswick in a few minutes driving.

We had a wonderful stay at Scales Farm. It would be impossible to fault it in any way whatsoever. Ultra clean, modern, spacious room with a superking bed. The breakfast room was directly accessible indoors from our room (Room 3), and the food was all fresh and delicious, with plenty of variety. There is a comfortable lounge where one can relax and read, or watch TV or DVD. The hosts Ivan and Helen were extremely welcoming and friendly. Highly, highly recommended.

Ivan and Helen were superb hosts. We spent two nights, our room and beds were very clean and comfortable, with a little cot set up for our 1 year old. Breakfast, as I had read in previous reviews, was amazing, discovered kippers for the first time. Ivan and Helen were always present, to find a toy for our crying baby or to give helpful tips for our stay. We walked the railway path into Keswick which was really beautiful evens though we were unlucky with the weather. Strongly recommend!
