Delighted to share our thoughts on The Mansion after a 5 day stay. We were looking for a small guest house that provided a comfortable and ‘safe’ stay and a good position to access the local areas we wanted to visit. It achieved that and some.

The booking arrangements direct with Ian were straightforward and it soon became clear that the personal touch to ensure guests needs were catered for was top of the agenda.

We were a multi generational family group and our four rooms were located on the ground floor ( conveniently next to the swimming pool ). The guys are updating the rooms to a really good standard since they took over a few years ago and they are very nearly there. Bit of a tweak in a couple of the bathrooms still needed . Room tip - ask for the renovated rooms with the wonderful sea views if they are available.

In some ways the accommodation ( and even the indoor swimming pool) are merely the
backdrop to this lovely warm and happy house. Ian and Nav just lift this ‘guest house ‘to a different level. You arrive as guests but leave feeling like you have stayed with new friends, their hospitality was exceptional but appropriate to guests wishes. We loved their banter and willingness to open the house (home)
to us to be together as a family - using the dining room for takeaways and board games, a fridge to store our treats and great hints on restaurants and places to visit.

They have added an honesty bar for guests to grab a beer or cold drink. It’s that level of thoughtfulness and kindness that gets our five stars.
Food was fabulous. ( especially the omelettes ) Great selection at breakfast and we enjoyed an evening meal they made us on arrival when we told them we may be late So appreciated.

Will definitely be back for another visit, thank you for helping us make special memories this year.

I have let my responses to emails slip, I usually respond before guests come back, and we are looking forward to seeing you again. It's been a tough year but we haven't wasted the down time, we have done another two bathrooms and a few other bits and pieces here and there and hope you like them when we see you again. Regards Ian

Excellent accommodation and hosts, everything was very 'Covid' safe. Ian and Nav were very helpful and informative of local area and nothing too much trouble for them. We know they are at present refurbishing rooms (that were already very clean and comfortable) one thing that could improve the room facilities would be a toiletry shelf and towel hooks in the bathroom other than that everything excellent.

Hi Carole, sorry it took so long to reply, we are back at it now and I am discovering all sorts of things I haven't done :-) Thank you for the lovely review, not sure which room you stayed in but we are in the final stages of refurbishing 2 more bathrooms and your points have been addressed. We hope to see you again in the future. Always remember to book direct for our very best rates.

Breakfast was always served hot and fresh and there was other things such as cereal, bread and yoghurt if you didn't want the hot breakfast.
The hosts were really friendly, always up for a chat or to help out.
The location is off the main road so there's barely any traffic noise but you're only a 5 minute drive from local supermarkets and parking to go walking through the town. You also get a great view from your bedroom window.

My only complaint is that the showers need a bit more protection such as a sliding door to stop the water splashing out onto the bathroom floor and soaking the towel you stand on when getting out.

Would highly recommend staying here if you're going to Whitehaven/The Lake District as it's very good value for money, pet friendly and only about 40 minutes from Keswick.

Breakfast was freshly cooked and nothing was to much trouble for them. Very chatty and obliging.
Would highly recommend the hotel and will definitely go back!!
Only problem for me was that I had to leave😭. Thank you so much Nav and Ian and look forward to seeing you again soon

I travelled to Whitehaven for the weekend, staying at this B&B for one night with two children (7&8). We arrived slightly earlier than planned and were greeted by Nav. He was very professional and welcoming. The room was spacious enough for us, clean and well maintained. The pool was a really great addition to the weekend and kept the children entertained for hours.

The variety of food on the breakfast menu was great, the quality of the full english breakfast was superb.

Overall I would say that the price paid for room with breakfast was well worth it. i'd go as far as to say i'd pay more. We will definitely be staying here again in the future, I cant fault them. Thank you for a stress free, enjoyable time.

Located on outskirts of Whitehaven it is ideal for visiting the western lakes and beaches. We were warmly welcomed and the hosts very accommodating, including moving our room so our dog was not disturbed by other guests walking past the room. The room was well furnished and comfortable. The breakfast was superb, being freshly prepared with quality ingredients. Would highly recommend for either a short business or holiday stay.

From the moment myself and sister arrived Our hosts Nav and Ian could not do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. The honesty box bar is an excellent idea. The rooms were spotlessly clean with comfortable beds also spotless. We had breakfast both mornings at a time we requested and everything was cooked fresh and it was everything you would expect on a full English, rather yummy it was. Everything about The Mansion from the great hosts, lovely rooms and great food gets my total recommendation and I will return

Things went badly from the off. On arrival, we were asked if we had previously telephoned about access to which replied we hadn't but that did not satisfy the owner who insisted that we must have and became very accusative. So we just stood there, aghast. The owner then question us about our intention to use the pool and from what he said and how he said it, we got the impression that we shouldn't use it.

The trek to the room was up and down stairs through the honesty bar which was explained to us. The bar area is also used for breakfast and, apparently, you can have the likes of smoke salmon and other luxury items at breakfast. This was unexpected so it was a nice addition to our stay. Unfortunately, this was not explained to us on arrival and only found out about this at breakfast the following morning.

When we got to out room, it had the view as stated in our booking and had a TV with NetFlix and Amazon Fire. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean however, the kettle was on the windowsill and connected to an extension which ran to the shelving unit below the TV.

Storage was was less than minimal, the wardrobe was not big enough to contain clothes for two for more than a couple of days plus there was no drawer space.

The radiator in the room was set to maximum but felt barely warm, we considered this was because of the closeness of the bed to the radiator but it meant the room was on the cold side. There was no heating whatsoever in the en-suite so it was very cold.

We stayed for one night and I doubt we will return.

Thankfully most guests are more than happy with what we do at The Mansion, as I said in my reply to your review on the OTA, reviews often say far more about the author than the subject. My advice still stands, try and engage with your hosts, and don't be aghast when you arrive early and are asked a set of simple questions that we ask all guests to make sure they, and we, have as much information as possible. Ian

We had a family holiday with our son and his wife + 2 grandchildren + another son + 2 dogs. The Mansion was a great base to visit the Lakes and then return to the tranquility of this out of town location. Ian & Nav were great hosts, always ready to give advice on locations to visit and eat. The breakfasts were amazing along with the swimming pool, sauna and hot tub. You rapidly realise that they go out off their way to make your visit as enjoyable as possible

From the moment we arrived the hosts made us feel welcome and invited. They were friendly and made sure we knew everything we needed to know, including recommendations for food (dog and partridge was amazing). The room has its own bathroom and I was lucky to get the sea view from our room. Breakfast was really good as well with lots of variety and the full English exactly as you asked.

The garden is really nice and we had sunny weather to be able to enjoy it. The walk to town and looking round was really good, I wish I had booked for a longer stay I honestly didn't want to leave
