Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Looks very grand from the outside. Excellent place to stay. room was comfortable, clean and quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good value for money. Our only criticism was the slowness of service for breakfast. We were anxious to get on the road for the next leg of our journey so this was a shame. Food was excellent - dinner and breakfast.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the food available was excellent and definitely value for money. The rooms are a good size but the ensuite is tiny just about fit for purpose. The views are beautiful and the resident cats make it feel homely.

My wife and I have stayed at The Greenhill a couple of times before, the last time being our wedding anniversary, lovely comfortable rooms on both occasions, excellent food in the restaurant and a good selection of drinks! Today we met friends for Sunday lunch, although the restaurant was busy,we were served promptly, the roasts very tasty,(unfortunately they had run out of pork)but the beef was beautifully cooked,as was the turkey. The vegetables were fresh and plenty of them! The staff were friendly and welcoming. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable lunch , shared with good friends in a relaxing atmosphere! Thank you Greenhill!

We were in Cumbria for a family re-union so only booked B&B. We received excellent service from start to finish. Our room was light and airy, overlooking green space and the occasional Highland cow. The breakfasts were excellent and the evening meal menu was varied, although we didn't try it. Very convenient for Carlisle, north lakes, Cumbrian coasts and Scotland. Would highly recommend.

Had a two night stay - exceptionally clean - genuinely helpful, friendly and welcoming staff - room was lovely - breakfast was fine the only adverse comment would be from the wife who had kippers that appeared to be from a packet rather than fresh - had dinner there that was good. There are two Aberdeen cows in the field at the front that talk ! Try it when you stay and they come to you especially if you speak with a Scottish accent. Had a trip to Wigton - small but nice nearby village - try the Hare & Hounds pub - like going back 100 years ! - Also had a day in Whitehaven - some lovely walks along the coast and some mining history to discover. All in all a good stay and would recommend.

The service, welcoming staff who were efficient and discreet, all went to having a fitting venue for our family celebration. The quality and quantity of the food was superb. From the first course to the last our meal made our weekend together a triumph! Well done and thank you.
