The room we stayed in (room 5) was well appointed and contained all you needed but there were certain things that were disappointing for a room described as luxury. With the large bed, desk, and table & chair, the room felt a little cramped. Several fittings were loose (toilet roll holder unexpectedly fell off the wall and the shower head was wobbly) as well as flaky paint in the bathroom.

The bed was incredibly comfortable with high quality bedding and plump pillows.

While I was impressed with the bathroom floor heating it proved impossible to get it to turn on as the time and date were incorrect. The heated towel rail took a bit to work out too. No instructions provided for either. The DAB radio, thoughtfully provided, only worked if I held the aerial in a certain position so wasn't usable.

The hot tub was worth paying the extra for but there seems to be little thought how you would access it. The door to the terrace was a heavy bi-folding door. Great in the summer perhaps, but not so good in cooler months when opening it completely drains the room of heat.

Overall a lovely experience but let down by the details which make all the difference.

Very modern & immaculate room. Comfy bed, quality bedding and towels, fridge, kettle etc. Coffee machine didn't work, no coffee sachets available, so two coffees were brought up from the bar that evening. De-caf disappointing, no flavour at all.
Broken coffee machine meant no coffee in the morning (we left before breakfast started at 09:00).
Nice addition of a small hot tub on the balcony, however it was overlooked from most directions. Privacy screening rather than glass panels would be better. Also there was a lot of road noise.
Staff were lovely, adjacent bar/restaurant is well worth a visit. Meal and service were exceptional. Book a table though, very popular.
Perfectly situated for our stay, could've been a 10/10 but for a few niggles.
We felt it was slightly overpriced for facilties provided.

The room itself and the hot tub were excellent and were a potential 5 star review quality. The let down was poor attention to detail in the room and quality of food in the supporting pub. We were in room 1 which was large and well furnished. The deck and hot tub were screened and furthest from road noise.
The coffee/tea facility was ill thought our and poorly equipped other than for Nespresso lovers. I struggled to find the biscuits, tea bags and sugar hidden behind the Nespresso box. The cups provided were too small for tea. I went to the bar and requested larger cups. The tea pot was a waste of time as it was only large enough for one normal sized cup. I then discovered there were no spoons for stirring or removing a tea bag. Fortunately the corkscrew acted as a poor substitute.
We had a snack lunch and a dinner in the Bowling Green pub. Both were very poor quality so we opted to eat elsewhere for the rest of the stay.

I'm sad to say that we emailed The Stables direct to give them the opportunity to respond and have had no response, but given that there is no reception and no-one to discuss our feedback it's best to make others aware of what the accommodation is.

The only room left at the property for the dates we were staying was the suite with spa access. I hoped that this was a good sign but we sadly feel the accommodation is far too expensive for what it was.

It is surprising that for £360 there is no breakfast included and that if you do with to have it you need to go to the pub next door and pay separately. The ‘spa’ is shared with another room but sadly was so small you could only have 2 people in there at a time so we didn’t get to use it as the other people were in there.

The property would be better advertised as a ‘serviced apartment’ rather than a hotel but without the kitchen facilities. We would expect a reception, concierge, bar and restaurant and better facilities for it to be considered a hotel, especially at this price.

Overall it was fine, the bed was a good size and everything looked very clean and new but absolutely not worth the £360 charged (upfront with no cancellation option!) and I can’t help feeling that in a year or two the facilities will steeply decline in aesthetic.

We’ve stayed in many hotels all over the world and this was by far the most unreasonably priced. It seems very much to be style over substance and as there is no reception, there isn’t anyone to have this conversation with so it has to be a poor review I’m afraid.

Such a shame as we had high hopes and we’re looking forward to our stay.

The room was gorgeous very helpful staff good food in the pud couldn’t of asked for more. Hot tub was a nice bonus. They really thought of all the small details for the room including iron and ironing board, coffee machine hairdryer and a few other things. Thankyou Charlotte and Simon

We loved every aspect of our stay. My wife didn't want to leave.
A very warm welcome on arrival, and the room was set up for our anniversary with Rose petals on the bed and a nice card. Very nice intimate touch. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The spa facilities are excellent, private and has everything you need.
We have stayed in similar priced rooms, but this experience far exceeded our expectations. The personal touch, the staff, the location and the facilities available are all excellent, we will be booking again for a two night stay for our birthdays in February.

We’ve just returned from a two night getaway stay at Stables, Ashbourne….. which was nothing short of excellent!!!
The rooms are decorated and presented to the highest standard…… comfort is a priority, and relaxation is facilitated in every way possible.
Amazingly comfortable and luxurious bed , pillows , bedding etc , beautiful shower room , and the bonus of a Japanese hot tub all added to a wonderful stay. Breakfast and dinner next door at The Bowling Green was excellent, with the quality of food and service from fabulous staff adding to our visit , and it was closer than walking to the dining room in a plush hotel …….. full marks all round , thank you , from John and Chris

Found room to be as advertised and staff very friendly and helpful. Location provided a great base to explore the Derbyshire countryside and was only a short walk to town centre. Staying in a room with a hot tub on the balcony made the romantics get away more special.

We stayed in one of the junior suits at the stables and our stay was fabulous. The location was great, walking distance into Ashbourne. The room looked like it had been recently refurbished and had lots of nice finishing touches which made our stay feel extra special. The hot tub was perfect and very private. The staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us to whilst we were there. We will definitely be back!!

Myself and my husband stayed here for our anniversary. We arrived at the hotel after a long bike ride on the Tissington Trail and we were not disappointed! It really is as good as it looks in the photos. The room was amazing!! After a shower we got to recover in the hot tub which was so so nice. So many added extras and such attention to detail which made us feel so spoilt. We ordered pizzas to our room from the restaurant which were delicious. The staff were so lovely and went above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely stay. An added bonus is the late checkout time, which meant we got to lie in for the first time in years. We feel so refreshed and will definitely be back as it was worth every penny. Thank you so much!
