Causeway House is a comfortable cottage with all the conveniences of the 21st century. Formerly a 15th-century medieval cruck cottage with original oak timbers and rebuilt in the mid 17th century. Situated in the middle of Castleton, a beautiful and ancient village in the heart of the Peak District, an area famed for its walking and cycling. There are 4 bedrooms, a 4 poster room with en-suite that has plenty of history and character plus a double with en-suite and 2 single rooms with shared bathroom..a perfect place to relax. The owner regrets to say he is unable to take pets.

Stayed here for 2 nights in room 1 which has a four poster bed.

Immaculate room with en-suite bathroom with shower.

Having fresh towels each day was great along with biscuits and flapjack!

Our host Phil was so helpful and welcoming giving us suggestions for walks and places to eat.

Sadly breakfast was not available when we went, something we were looking forward to after other guest reviews!

We previously booked and ate one night at the Cheddar Cheese which served your standard pub food. Scampi and chips etc.

On Phil’s recommendation we also had dinner at 1530 which we served much better quality food.

We walked the Mam Tor route in both directions, Causeway House is a perfect location to set off from without needing to drive anywhere.

Thank you Phil for your warm welcome.

Causeway House is a delightful place to stay. We used it as a base from which to explore the historic town of Castleton. The host, Phil was very welcoming and we quickly felt at home; nothing was too much trouble. Our very spacious room was extremely comfortable and authentically furnished to suit the 15th Century building; the ensuite bathroom was an added bonus. These features plus freshments and snacks in the room made our stay comfortable and extremely enjoyable. We would love to return.

We stayed at Causeway house when visited Castleton to have a walking and hiking break with friends. The rooms were clean and the owner Phil looked after us going an extra mile. He provided car parking to our friends who joined us but stayed at another hotel. Daily house keeping and in room breakfast was great. Phil helped us giving information on walking and hiking and even provided old news papers to dry our shoes after walks.Only problem is it has limited number of rooms and can not accommodate large groups. But if visited Castleton again will stay at Causeway house.

What a fantastic find. Perfectly located in the centre of the village with a warm, welcoming host

We stayed in the king-size room, which was lovely, bright, clean, and very spacious. The welcome tray was terrific !
Thanks Phil ,,, hope to return

I had contacted Phil (owner) for availability on the weekend of the 9th October as we had planned a birthday celebration which involved all of guests travelling. Phil was very accommodating in arranging the booking, giving directions and very relaxed on our arrival time as we had planned a walk earlier before arrival. We contacted Phil to let him know we were going to arrive by a certain time, and on arrival met by Phil who showed us to three beautiful rooms. Exceeded our expectations and Phil couldn’t do enough for us.

Stayed at Causeway for three nights and owner Phil couldn't do enough for you. Recommend some great places to visit and eat and as the accommodation is in the heart of the town centre we were able to leave our car on the drive most of the time. The accommodation itself was lovely and full of olde worlde charm. Will definitely be visiting again

Booked online direct with Phil our friendly host, £75 per night in this quaint guesthouse with free parking. It is right in the centre of Castleton which has 6 pubs and numerous other shops and cafes. Lots of great walks for the outdoor types too. Our room was en-suite with shower and a comfortable double bed on the 1st floor with good fast WiFi. No breakfast included but we didn’t mind as plenty of options available within a short walking distance.

Stayed for 1 night at Causeway House and had a very pleasant stay. Phil the owner is a really nice guy, very welcoming and accommodating, nothing too much trouble. The room was nice, clean and comfy. Tea/coffee making facilities and fresh milk provided. With breakfast not currently on offer it was a nice touch to have biscuits/breakfast bars provided complimentary as well. Phil was nice enough to let us leave the car there after we had checked out to go for breakfast in the village.
Would reccomend for a cosy stay in Castleton.

I booked the four poster room for me and my partner as he wanted to go to Castleton for the weekend. I booked over the phone with Phil with no problem. The room is lovely, there’s no tv but it was actually quite nice and peaceful without one! However if I’d known I’d have taken a book. Phil doesn’t do breakfasts anymore so we had to find somewhere that was open, on a Saturday it was a surprise that there was only one cafe open before 10am.
It’s a large room with a decent shower, and it’s so quiet!
I’d definitely stay again, really enjoyed it.
