Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Risley Hall is straight out of a Jane Austin novel yes it was not touched since 1800 if only somebody did it up I would say 1970 or 80 and has not touched it since. The hotel receptionist was never seen I think he was ashamed there was no housekeeping the bins were never emptied. The bathroom was clean as it could be considered its dilapidated state To be fair I think they are doing it up and trying to keep going by preying on the unexpected customer.

Staff are friendly and the outside building and grounds are nice but it is very run down. Decor is outdated, which would be fine if still in a good condition, but in our room the wallpaper was peeling significantly and the wardrobe door didn’t shut. The mattress was also quite uncomfortable. When we arrived they also didn’t have our booking. Luckily we had email confirmation and there was a room available but not sure why it had been “deleted”. The breakfast was okay but not many vegetarian options.

We thought the hotel would be wonderful like the pictures show. The outside was up to standards but the rooms were nothing like the photos. The staff blamed the booking system error and changed to a bigger room after we questioned. But the inside was still dated and the bed seemed not that clean especially the pillows. We were surprised to find out there’s no hairdryers after hair wash. The employee and his manager made no effort in providing a solution, making up an excuse saying they were in refurbishment and all the hairdryers could not be found. We didn’t feel being cared about during our stay. The next morning, we had to climb up fence walls to get to the car park as the footpath was completely flooded, due to poor maintenance of their pavement.

If I could give zero I would Absolutely disgraceful The hotel cancelled a planned Event for March 2024 because the kitchen will be closed and the bedroom stock diminished- take your own conclusions from that ! However as the absolute pits they have refused to refund an extended booking off the back of the event that can’t go ahead because the Hotel cancelled it with the 3rd party event company. Avoid this venue at all costs I will be surprised if they are not in administration by the end of Feb 2024

We stayed here overnight on the 29th January. The following night, I realised that I had left my Apple Watch under my pillow, and phoned up the following day. I was assured that it would be posted to me. Several phone calls and emails later, I was assured it would be couriered to me. Now, I am unable to get anyone to answer the phone or respond to my husband's last email. We have visited this hotel regularly, because we look after aged relatives who live nearby, and have always enjoyed our stay. I have health issues and use this watch to monitor my symptoms, however, without my watch, I'm unable to do that. The hotel is 140 miles away from home, so I can't even pop round to pick it up.

Very similar experience to another family who have left a review. Booked a family room, as evidenced from my email confirmation. Shown to a double room, then told I’d booked a double room. When I proved I hadn’t, they said they were fully booked so one of the reception team dragged two mattresses up the stairs to the room for my two teenage boys to sleep on - not on beds, just mattresses in the floor! Demanded a refund. They said they can’t process them onsite and gave me a form. Never received the refund, calls never answered, emails ignored. Breakfast was awful. If you want the details many others have already described it here. Every part of the hotel is not just run down but literally falling apart. Absolutely the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

Hotel is in peaceful setting. Went for a quiet walk around the garden which was great. Reception staff very friendly and gave me a tour of the hotel. Good range of choices on the dinner menu and cooked to order hot breakfast with continental breakfast as well. In my view, good hotel.

We went to the hotel for a special birthday treat and the team looked after us so well. They had decorated our room up for me which was the loveliest surprise. Anshin was on duty on the night we arrived and he bent over backwards to accommodate our needs. Simon and Shaun were also fab. Good food for dinner and breakfast, lovely ambiance and friendly and helpful staff. Very good value for money. Would love to go to the hotel again.

This use to be a well kept Hotel. Now it is tired and in need of repair and cosmetic maintenance. Going up 3 flights of steep stairs with the lift not working was not a nice experience. Couldn't book breakfast on-line, but it is possible on arrival. We use to stay on the lower level extension, but this was not possible. Why?
