We stayed for two nights at Tim's B&B so that we could do some walks in the Derbyshire Dales. The Old Lockup is really full of character and a lovely place to stay. Our room was very nice with everything that you'd need after spending a day walking. The breakfast was really good and one evening we had a three course dinner with wine which was all excellent. We've stayed in a few UK B&Bs recently and been very impressed with all of them and we'd have no hesitation in recommending The Old Lockup to any of our friends or family.
Ideal location in an idyllic little town which proved to be a great base to head out and see the dales. Very unique and comfortable room with great hospitality throughout our stay. Would definitely visit again if back in the area.
I stayed here with a friend from Saturday 22nd to Monday 24th August 2020. It was a trip for my mates 60th birthday. Tim made sure we knew the rules for how to stay safe during the Covid-19 pandemic and we already knew that the lounge was out of action for that reason. It didn't diminish our experience at all. The rooms are well equipped and very comfortable. The building is a fantastic throw back to the 1800's when police would lock up criminals in secure stone cells. The breakfast is fantastic and we also enjoyed a fabulous 4 course meal with wine on one evening. It was definitely fine dining and the wine was good quality as well as being incredibly good value. There is a substantial collection of police memorabilia around the accommodation to compliment the history of the place. Overall this is a great place to stay for walking or visiting the wonderful sights around the Derbyshire Dales. Matlock Bath was ten minutes drive away. Tim was friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful with advice and information about the area.…
A perfect location in a lovely small town - the whole set-up is full of character and individuality. The host is very helpful and obliging, and offered tea and cake on arrival, in the amazing living room with huge collection of vinyl records. This was only the start, the volume of law enforcement memorabilia is stunning and my sleeping accommodation was truly impressive. Although the en-suite was a little tired, I suspect that will be on the list for refurbishment soon. The lovely calm breakfast room was an excellent setting for the very fine breakfast. A perfect start to the day!
We had a warm welcome from the owner of The Old Lockup in Wirksworth. On arrival, we were greeted with tea and cakes. Our room was comfortable and well appointed. The guest house was full of interesting artefacts and there was a cosy lounge to sit in and relax. The owner Tim is a very good cook and prepared us a delicious meal on our first night there. It is an excellent place to stay for exploring the beauty and history of the surrounding area.
