Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Words cannot describe this experience so I will go through it bit by bit and you can judge. I arrived to a very unhelpful receptionist who clearly did not want to be there. I arrived at 7.00 pm and was immediately informed that there was no food available as the chef was off sick. I was shown to my room (II was walked through the hotel which absolutely reeked of bleach) which had no key. When I insisted that I must have a key I was given a master key. My room was so small it was impossible to open the wardrobe doors so I had to feed by clothes in with one door half open. The shower was tiny and the only towel was the bath mat which I had to use to dry myself. Whilst I waited for a taxi to take me out for my unplanned dinner I had a gin and tonic from the bar which was served warm and the had no ice and was served in a half pint glass. I didst even bother to ask for lemon. When I arrived back from dinner the hotel was locked; there was a note on the door that said entry was by a code. But I had not been given a code so I rang the "emergency only" number/ Despite ringing constantly for 30 minutes there was still no answer. S eventually I climbed the fire escape to the 1st floor and after about 10 minutes the door was opened by a fully naked guest. (thank you sir whoever you were). After I want to bed there was loud music playing all night(until 3.30 AM) from the only house next door to the hotel; I was told afterwards that this house was the staff accommodation but I have no idea if this was true. After a bad nights sleep I went to complain to the receptionist but there was no staff anywhere to be seen. And I mean nowhere. Don't be deceived by appearances from outside this hotel looks OK but it really is awful and clearly it is known bu the locals as being bad as when I recounted my tale I was met with knowing giggles and noone was surprised.

We held my husbands Wake here on 24th October. Pip and Leslie were excellent, very understanding on what we wanted, nothing was too much trouble, friendly, approachable and kind. As a family we will use the venue again.

The staff there are wonderful. Polite, fun, effective and hard working. The room was very clean, and we appreciated being able to order food after hours. A big thanks to them. The place was very overpriced, with spartan room decor, few facilities in the room (very hard to find sockets!) and no atmosphere. You get more for less at a Travelodge and similar clones.

We stayed for 3 days at the hotel. Bed was comfortable but walls are paper thin so you could hear anything from other rooms. Service was average and hardly saw any staff members. The corridor smelt like I was going to visit my grandparents at a care home. The view outdoor was breathtaking where the building resides. Pretty cheap for what you get but wouldn't say its a five star hotel but it was a place just to get our head down but I wouldn't want to return next time.

We had a function at the White Horse and I couldn't fault it from the decoration of the room to the food. Everything was taken care off and the staff were brilliant. The room was lovely, big and modern and the food was lovely

Booked with Lesley, Head Chef, after Xams ..for my birrhday. Told I was the first non-resident guest to eat there. We had a fantastic 3 Course meal and Lesley/Maria were the perfect hosts for my birrhday treat. Down at Borrowby for my birrhday-will definitely come again and tell friends, relatives etc about this fantastic hotel. Thanks again Lesley and Maria...

This hotel is situated on a busy stretch of road and it is not near to any shops. We hire a car for the duration of our stay. The day before we arrived,my friend received a call to say that the restaurant was closed on the Saturday night. When we arrived we were told that it was permanently closed and there was no breakfast or anything such as beverages available. There is a bar with a sign to say no draft beer due to a supply problem. Not a great lover of pot noodles and we were fortunate that there was a kettle with tea and coffee. Furniture is stacked up in the restaurant with ornaments and other fire combustible materials, which was a bit worrying. No staff apart from one person when you arrive and then the place is deserted! The person on reception when we arrived gave us a sheet of paper with a door code and contact phone number. Walls are paper thin and you can here everything of what the person/persons are doing or saying in the room next to you. My friend who was staying in the other side of the building said the same. Dirty floors and toilets are not positioned very well. No hair dryer which was annoying. Would give this a miss if you want food, comfort etc and I am glad I didn’t book a week here.

Reception not friendly. First room wasn't cleaned, had to request another. For a busy weekend, there was no one there apart us. Hotel looked closed. There was a room in the main part of the hotel full of stacked chairs and tables not being using. No explanation about why they werent used. No information booklet in room. No details of fire routes available or discussed. Only offer continental breakfast. Very uncomfortable. Left after 2hours and went home. Spoilt our holiday. Cant believe they call themselves a hotel, have stopped in better bed and breakfasts. Would not recommend.
