Hello my name is Val and I am the proud owner of laburnum house, a deceptively spacious home with contemporary furnishings, overlooking the Hambleton Hills.I am a Yorkshire lass born and bred, and have lived in the area for 63 years so i have good local knowledge. I can recommend places to visit, where to dine, and wonderful walks – as i am a keen walker myself. I am also passionate about Yorkshire! The house is very deceiving from the outside as you will see. There is a toilet and hand basin downstairs, the guests dining room is large and beautifully furnished, with a fridge, and adjoining the dining room is a new bespoke orangery just finished in time for spring 2013. It is fully furnished with 5 seater settee and armchair and large footstool, 42″ flat TV, Roberts CD/radio player, and good reading. There are 2 rooms – THIRSK ROOM is zip and link, can be a TWIN OR DOUBLE ROOM WITH EN-SUITE ,LARGE TV YORK ROOM KING SIZE BED WITH EN-SUITE, LARGE TV AND NETFLIX

Our very first visit to Thirsk for a day at the races, we were lucky to get a room at Laburnum House and were SO GLAD we did. Val and Lee are the ultimate hosts, absolutely nothing was too much trouble and the welcome was unbelievably friendly. Val even offered to give us lifts anywhere we needed to go. The breakfast alone was worth the visit, but the friendliness and atmosphere put the icing on the cake for us.
If you ever find yourself going to Thirsk and are lucky enough to get a room at Laburnum House......... you WILL NOT be disappointed.
Looking forward to returning next year already!!

We stayed here to visit family, it was excellent starting with friendly welcome from Val who immediately gave us a cup of coffee and biscuit which was welcome after a long journey. She then showed us our room 'The Thirsk Room'. It was a double ensuite with everything provided, tea, coffee, water and biscuits.
The bed was very comfortable and we went down the following morning for an great freshly cooked English breakfast, with fruit, yoghurt and juice available.
Val was very particular regarding Covid protocols so we did feel we didnt have any worries.
So an excellent 4 night stay.

Visiting Thirsk for a funeral, we booked two rooms at Laburnum House for a three night stay. What a wonderful choice it turned out to be with our rooms being immaculate and comfortable and a hospitality tray of tea, coffee and biscuits provided. We had a very warm welcome from Val with nothing being too much trouble for her. The breakfast was superb, freshly cooked, plentiful and more tea, coffee and toast always available. She even offered us beverages when we came in after an evening out. The house was COVID safe and Val took it very seriously so we felt at ease at all times. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay at Laburnum House again and can thoroughly recommend it.

From the moment you book it was so easy and friendly. Amazing room spotlessly clean with everything you would need and if you needed anything it was no trouble. If and when I’m in the area again I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here. Thanks very much 10/10

I stayed with Val for two nights recently and was not disappointed. Val's friendly nature made it seem we had known each other for years.

My room was large, bright and airy with a lovely outlook, the most comfortable bed, one of the best showers and the largest TV I have seen in any B&B or Hotel.

Having decided to skip the offered cooked breakfast I had fruit, yogurt and toast in abundance with proper butter.

I know Thirsk very well and Laburnum House is a place I shall hopefully be able to return to.

Vacancies permitting that is.

Thank you for a lovely stay.

We stayed overnight at Laburnum House last week, wish it had been for longer!! A fantastic welcome from Val and Lee, nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were perfect, large, clean and tasteful as was the bathroom. Attention to detail and provision of everything a guest could need was second to none. Val delights in making her guests feel comfortable and the choice for breakfast was amazing. Cannot praise this delightful place and it's owners highly enough and would definitely return!

I stay in hotels several times a week and this was an all time highlight.
Val is lovely and takes complete pride in her hotel. For £30 I can honestly say I've never had such good value. The ensuite room was spacious, newly decorated, immaculately clean. Val was telling me she wasn't happy with the paint she'd used and was going to do it all again. I couldn't see the problem, but illustrates what a perfectionist she is. I just had a couple of eggs on toast for breakfast, but they were fabulous. Apparently Val goes to the farm every morning to get them to ensure they are the freshest free range.

Overall, superb and a fabulous chance find

Stayed for our first time on a visit to the races. This is a marvellous place, so well run. Very clean and nicely decorated with everything you need. A wonderful array of fruit for breakfast ... strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, fresh pineapple etc etc.... followed by good produce especially eggs, for a full cooked breakfast, we were even offered smoked salmon with scrambled egg. Valerie our host is an amazing lady and can not do enough for you. Even offers to put your wine in the fridge!!!!! At most b and bs we drink warm white wine but not here. We ate locally within 10 minutes walk at an Italian called Fantinos in Sowerby and in Thirsk at the Golden Fleece, both of which were very good. If you need to offload a few calories after that , we did an amazing footpath walk around Thirsk the following day, from Laburnum in fields and then into the historic part of the town and finally along the river. All level and even some super views. We are certainly going to return as it really is too good to miss and such good value.
