I am a 5 star luxury kind of girl so if I can cope (nay enjoy!) staying at Cassowary House then surely everyone can. It is an amazing place. The owners made us so welcome, nothing was too much trouble. We saw the Cassowarys numerous times along with the fabulous Riflebird displaying. Our room was clean and comfortable with a... More

We stayed two nights in the cottage. It is basic, on the small size, but comfortable. Nice deck with chairs to just sit, relax, and listen. Breakfast on the main deck, with all the feeders, was great. Plenty of good food and plenty of birding information. Catbirds, Riflebirds, Honeyeaters, and Butchebirds came to the feeders. Cassowaries came too, and posed... More

We stayed four nights in one of rooms, not the cottage, in mid August Accommodation basic but adequate and comfortable. We knew Sue was going to be away while we were there so breakfast would not be provided. However her son was there and very helpful in all the ways we needed. We had internet access using our own devices.... More

We loved staying in the cottage-its surrounded by forest-surrounded by bird calls and a feeling nature is on top of you. Breakfast walk with Phil was great, these guys know so much about wildlife-then our breakfast was delicious and on the deck watching riflebirds, honeyeaters, rat kangaroos, and we did get a visit from 2 cassowary. Love to visit again

We were shocked by how rough and basic the accommodation was. The cottage was very old and quite uncomfortable. We had a few nights stay but really couldn't wait to get out of there. Birds were scarce and no cassowaries to be seen. Not what we were expecting. The roof was not lined and the gaps in the corrugated iron... More

Lovely lady runs the place and was so helpful, friendly and considerate to our needs. Even checked on me when she heard I was sick just to make sure I was alright and asked if she could get me anything. There is a brilliant rustic cottage in the middle of the rainforest with all the required bathroom, kitchen and hot... More

We were just staying here as a base while we were on a house hunting trip. Not looking for animals at all, however, we saw the cassowary with chick VERY close up three times. Little marsupials, birds and butterfly's abound. Many we had never seen even as naturalised North Queenslanders. Sue is an excellent hostess with a wealth of local... More

I stayed here for only one night with my 5 month old daughter. I wish I could have stayed longer as I absolutely love the place. I found Cassowary house quite easily by just following the map and it is located on a road just before turning into Kuranda village. On arrival I was met by the owner who then... More

This is an excellent place to see Southern Cassowary and Victoria's Riflebird right from the veranda of the main house. Sue puts out a nice breakfast and you can enjoy the birds in the morning while you eat breakfast (highly recommended). You do not have unlimited access to this spot because it is their private residence and you must walk... More

I'm a bird watcher and nature fanatic, and this is - hands down- one of the best places I ever staid. I really don't understand some of the critical comments - the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated and the beds are excellent. You're tucked in deep in the forest, with just the sounds of the forest. We woke up... More
