Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Stayed for 2 nights. Staff were very accommodating to a change in our bedding requirements.
Rooms were simple but very tidy and filled our requirements, great parking and some outdoor seating areas to gather if you have multiple rooms.
Would stay again.

I have been travelling to Mareeba for nearly 2 years now as we work to establish a new agtech service in the area. I first stayed at the Jackaroo Motel through an on-line search and from the very beginning it has become my go to place to stay.

Just recently the Jackaroo has changed management and it is great to report that the new Team has the place sparkling and have added some very helpful services.

For the first time, we made use of the excellent conference facilities the Jackaroo can offer, which are rare in Mareeba. With the option of full catering or hot and cold food storage, excellent audio-visual equipment the Jackaroo Team made our job to entertain a group of 10 a breeze. We could host functions for probably 20, but you best check with the management on the numbers they would enjoy catering for.

I have stayed in dozens of country motels from Adelaide in SA, through Victoria, NSW and Queensland and the Jackaroo Motel in Mareeba stands out for me for friendly service, good quality rooms and great value for money. I can highly recommend them.

I stayed at the Jackaroo in Mareeba for three night’s recently. The rooms are spotless, well decorated and very comfortable, also not that far from Mareeba township. The owners were very welcoming and no enquiry was bothersome to them. I would highly recommend the Jackaroo to any travellers wanting a clean and comfortable place to stay.

While the room, location and amenities were satisfactory, my experience with management on check out was unpleasant and marred our stay. On 29 April 2022, I booked a room for my wife and myself on the motel's website for 2 nights from 31 July to 2 August for $150 per night, giving my credit card details, and received email confirmation of the rate. On the morning of our departure, I received an email from the motel under the name Carole Daly titled "Pre stay invoice", which charged me $160 per night, and with a breakfast for $19, totalled $339. When I returned the room key on check out, I told the lady at Reception that the emailed invoice was incorrect. It turned out that the amount had already been deducted from my credit card. The lady said there was no mistake, as room rates had gone up from 1 July, and the motel did not send out emails to customers who had booked earlier, as there would be too many emails to be sent out. However, on 28 July,Jackaroo Motel did send me an email reminding me of my booking for arrival on 31 July, without any reference to a revised room rate. I asked for a refund of $20 to bring the invoice in line with what I had agreed with the motel. The lady objected, saying that costs had increased, the motel down the road was now charging $170 per day, I was being unfair in not agreeing to $160 per day, the directors had set the rate, she had no control over it, I was the first person who had complained about the rate rise, and no other customer had objected. I said she should check with Consumer Affairs whether the motel was acting properly, and I insisted on the refund. She then said with obvious anger and irritation that she did not wish to argue with me over such a small amount as $20, and if I insisted, she would give me the credit on my credit card, which I then gave her. The experience soured my stay at the motel.

The only less than excellent thing about this location is currently (crushing season) cane trucks roaring past from pre-dawn for an hour or so! Crazy that cane is now being grown up on my old FNQ stamping ground.
Staff were great, room was great, good value and the provided facilities (beautiful BBQ and bounteous goodies hamper), best ever!

We stayed as a convenient pick up point for Billy Tea Safaris from Cairns, on their wonderful Granite Gorge, Skybury, Dimbulah, Almaden, Chillagoe Caves (the major drawcard) and incredible Balancing Rock long / comprehensive day tour. Not to be missed. Also, for a short drive to beautiful Kuranda, to pick up the excellent Skyrail down to Smithfield, Cairns, and back. Reverse of normal trip, way to go!!

trish on the desk was wonderful. Great value, good old FNQ charm! :-) alan and barb

Rooms were old but comfortable enough. Can hear every single vehicle passing by on the main road.

You would think that with a 10am checkout staff would not enter your room prior to that time or checking out, but I happened to receive the old ‘9:30am quick knock’ immediately followed by a barge in entry to my room. Of course, I happened to be stark naked prior to getting dressed & ready to leave around that time. The guy didn’t even leave 1 second for me to respond verbally before entering the room. I’ve stayed at enough places to see this happen from time to time. They know exactly what they’re doing.

So if your’e into that kinda thing…enjoy your stay!

Old style motel but refurbished within and very clean. Thoughtful touches too like cold water in the fridge . Easy psrking right outside the door. I was worried as it is on the main road but there is hardly any passing traffic once it gets dark.

Enjoyed a very comfortable and relaxed overnight stay before heading to the Gulf.
Motel spotless and well appointed. Great to be able to borrow a toaster and make a simple brekky before a very early start.
So thankful the lovely couple dropped us in early early to catch the Trans North bus. Made our stay so stress free. So appreciated such outback kindness.
Also great as across the road from Heritage museum and cafe. Fantastic!!

My wife and I just spent a four night stay at the Jackaroo in July and we found it a great place to stay. Nice clean room, comfortable bed, good facilities, excellent breakfast menu to choose from and the breakfast always arrived at the time requested. The hosts, Pete and Maureen couldn't have been more helpful and were very informative with good advice on attractions in the area and a recommendation for an excellent place to eat (The Gateway Hotel). We'd certainly recommend The Jackarroo Motel to anyone travelling to Mareeba. Ken Grant.

A typical roadside motel on the edge of town. We have stayed here several times before (not a lot of choice in Mareeba!), usually in a bigger room, but most rooms are an ok size. Pros - friendly staff, good parking, comfortable bed. Cons - traffic noise and the rooms are quite dark (opaque glass for privacy I guess).

Room Tip: I think the larger rooms are at the back - quieter and a view of the garden.
