My last visit to this place was way back in the seventies, what a very pleasant surprise , warm and friendly welcome and a great atmosphere. I was part of a large party celebrating a 60th birthday, from the very start the service was so good, attention to detail was brilliant, it got better, the food was outstanding (I gather...

We have visited The County on a number of occasions and the food quality and service is always of the highest standard. There is always a friendly greeting on arrival and no matter how busy they seem you are always seated promptly or sat in the waiting and served with a drink. There is an excellent and varied menu which...

We came for Sunday lunch. Only one veggie option or Yorkshire puddings with roast potatoes and veg. Yorkshires were huge and veg was very nice. Excellent selection of veg. Ice creams and desserts were lovely. Waitresses were very polite and friendly. Lovely meal will definitely go back again, although we'll check what the veggie option is first.

The four of us stayed in this hotel to be near the site of Kynren in Bishop Auckland. It was in a beautiful village and was extremely comfortable, clean and attractive. The staff were all extremely helpful. We only had breakfast but would have liked to have had dinner if we'd had time. It looked a great menu.

We stayed at The County on Saturday night. We had dropped our daughter off at Nottingham Trent Uni and were heading from there to Northumberland to visit friends. We booked The County as we knew we would be tired and would need a good meal and rest. We were met with a very friendly welcome and shown to our room...

Visited for the birthday celebration for my elderly mother. The service was excellent - attentive without being intrusive; very helpful and friendly. The menu was perfect for a family celebration - the sort of menu where people from a range of ages will find something they like. Largely traditional British is style with a definite home cooked feel. I had...

I have stayed and eaten at The County on several occasions recently when in the area on business and the accommodation and service I have received has always been superb. Colette and her team are so friendly and welcoming, the rooms are spotless and decorated and furnished to a very high standard. Every meal I have had has been excellent,...

We came to the County for Sunday lunch while visiting Durham. Well worth the drive from Durham - top quality food, friendly attentive service, good value. The Sunday lunch choice was wide and our family of 4 had four different main courses, (roast beef, roast pork, lamb rump, gougons of plaice) all fresh and well presented. The veg accompaniment consisted...

The property is well positioned, very clean and decor really nice. Friendly professional staff. However, Sunday lunch was terrible on every level! Frozen cubed turnip, questionable mash, tasteless beef etc. We would not recommend and won't be returning.
