Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I’ve stayed here before, including recently, and always had a good stay. It’s easy to find, plenty of parking, and always get a friendly welcome. The room was as expected until I spotted an unexpected welcome back note with a chocolate treat from Jade and the team which was a lovely touch. Comfy bed. Only niggle was the power on the shower kept dropping on the 2nd morning. I’ve booked to stay again soon.

Stayed for 3 nights from Christmas Eve. Lovely touch on arrival of bottle of sparkling wine in an ice bucket, chocolate truffles, a couple of little snack gift bags, crackers and a nice Xmas card. There was also little gifts for children on the reception desk. Lovely and friendly, and a note from Angela. Lovely Christmas stay.

We booked a family room while visiting family. The staff knew we had 2 children with us and had to bags of sweets on the side ready waiting for them in our arrival which was a lovely touch. Staff were so helpful with any request great location if you want to travel to surrounding areas like Durham or Newcastle. Food was great with a vast selection to choose from. Great value for money would return anytime of the year. Thankyou so much

First time to stay here. John on reception was exceptionally helpful with finding a checking a different room for me. He took tome to have a conversation and offered to help with my case. A true gentleman with great interpersonal skills. The room was spotless and although not as yet updated, more than adequate for my stay.

A great welcome from the receptionist (Yvonne) got our stay off to the best start, so cheerful and had time to talk. Couldn't have been more helpful in ringing the eatery to tell them we wanted to eat even though they were about to close the kitchen as it was getting late. Great service all round.

Friendly staff, very clean rooms. Lots of parking directly outside. Don't be put off by the musty smell in the stairwell, the rain was spotless. The hungry horse was a few steps away, again very friendly and good choice if evening meals

I had a good nights sleep and the room was clean quiet and well maintained.. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is very old fashioned though like a throw back - about 20 years old I'd say and needs refurbishment which made it slightly depressing to be there. Such a contrast with the newer ones
