The Feathers and Lawns Rooms are in situated in the middle of Holt’s bustling high street, a Georgian gem of a town that’s perfectly placed just 3 miles inland from the Norfolk coast. Lined with cafes, galleries and antique stores with thriving independent shops, bustling with activity all year long - its the perfect place to make a weekend of it. Stepping through The Feathers welcoming front door into the historic bar, its long tradition of warm hospitality immediately scoops you up and finds you a comfortable chair - and the perfect table. Locals and travellers hunker down in quiet, stylish interiors in front of blazing log fires in winter, sociable outdoor terrace tables in Summer, and all a stone’s throw from the high street. We look forward to welcoming local folk and visiting folk very soon, pop by when you’re next in town - muddy boots and wagging tails are all very welcome.

Visited recently for lunch and dinner for first time and very good food.
Recommended fish and chips, fish tasted fresh.
Other people in party had burger and chicken ceased also good.
Delicious desserts especially the chocolate brownie.
Took a bit of time to get served but they were very busy and staff very friendly and pleasant.

Arrived to find table was right at the back of hotel next to road so couldn’t see or hear the band. Eventually we were offered a table inside which was better as it was quite cold outside.
The first two courses of the meal were delicious, the desserts came three out of six had the pavlova, two of the pavlova were inedible apart from the fruit topping, the base was totally burned and you could smell the burnt base(how could a chef serve those?)
When we told the waitress she apologised( but she would mention it to the chef)
When my husband went to pay we thought maybe we would be offered a discount for the inedible desserts but nothing although he did mention again.
We had traveled nearly two hours for lunch and to see the band( my daughter has booked them for her wedding next year)
The staff we’re manically rushing around, and the manager ( or owner) seemed quite rude.

My Husband and I enjoyed a delicious meal in the gardens at the Lawns on a summer’s evening. We both enjoyed the curry night special (Tuesdays) and with the Eat Out to Help Out discount, it was very reasonable. The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful. There was slight delay with the bill as they were waiting for a manager to apply the discount which took some time but otherwise an excellent visit during our visit to Norfolk.

Room was tired with paint missing from windowsill. Mismatched furniture, poor quality tea tray and no glasses for water.

Bathroom was clean although toothbrush holder was loose on the wall.

Good quality bed linen.

Breakfast was very disappoining. The buffet only had a small selection of cereals plus small pots of jams and marmalade’s despite fresh fruit and juices being mentioned as being included in the booklet in the room.

On second morning we ordered the Full English - one without beans. The waiter said “just as well, we’re out of beans” with a smirk. Are you really sure any hotel worth their salt would actually run out?? Especially as their local Bookers is open at 7:30 in the morning and according to Google Maps only 2mins away. However, there was never any apology for one of us expecting the beans. Toast was never offered it had to be ordered and no side plates were ever forthcoming.

Certainly overpriced at £138 per night - think £100 is more realistic.

Recently stayed for the weekend, and decided to treat ourselves to a Superior Double Room which was advertised on the website as having a shower over the bath, but there was no shower, only a hand held shower attachment.......not very "Superior", or what we paid for. I queried this, but was told that the hotel was full, and people in other rooms had booked before us, so we could not move rooms.
On the second night, the fire alarm went off at 1:30 in the morning, so guests evacuated, at which point we discovered there were no staff on site, and no response from the contact phone numbers. Luckily the Fire Brigade were there very quickly and dealt with the situation. The next day, by way of an apology, we were offered a free drink if we were dining in the hotel that night, but as we weren't, no drink was forthcoming.
We were on the first floor, and on the Friday and Saturday night could hear music from the bar area until around midnight.
The location was great, and the food very good, but overall, it felt like as guests. we weren't made to feel welcome, and it was like we were an inconvenience to the staff.

My wife and I stayed at The Lawns for two nights in January opting for one of the king Rooms. The room was very spacioùs and well lit from two large windows, the mattress was excellent and the bathroom was clean and well appointed with a great shower. Breakfast was included in our stay and included the usual choice of cereals and an excellent cooked breakfast. We also ate in the hotel in the evening and the food was really good on both occassions. The staff were polite, professional and friendly, Sharon who served us on our first night deserves a particular mention. The hotel is located a minutes walk from the centre of Holt and has its own private car park. Great value and highly recommended.

Something of a mixed reaction to this hotel. It is in a great location and the room was large and comfortable- main issue was with the service and especially that from the manager. At every turn he seemed to find dealing with guests a nuisance. It is a huge place but have to book a breakfast arrival time rather than using the space they have to spread people out all were crammed into one small part. Service at breakfast was slow - only given orange juice on request, had no Earl Grey tea and again just made to feel unwelcome. Car parking is limited and it would be better if spaces were allocated by room. Our room was near the garden and the management should move people out of the garden once the bar closes. Evening meal on one night was much better with the waitress working then so much friendlier than the manager.

We booked The Lawns restaurant for 7.30pm, we’d been told it was lovely for drinks but thought we’d have a meal too. Arrived at 7pm and sat outside for a pre dinner drink, told by a member of staff that our table was in the conservatory when we were ready. A family arrived at around 7.15pm and sat at the table that had been pointed out to us, also to which we had set up a tab on, or so we believed. Concerned that they may be charged for our drinks we went to the bar to speak to a staff member. My daughter started to explain to a young member of staff what had happened when an obnoxious person whom we later discovered to be the manager suddenly interrupted and and in a very unfriendly and unprofessional manner suggested that we should have been seated at the table already and that we should check in again and a table would be allocated to us. He did not give my daughter the chance to even explain that our first concern was the tab we had set up. I was totally taken aback by how rude he was and we decided to leave but not before telling him why and of course paying for our drinks! He made a half hearted totally insincere attempt to apologise but still tried to imply that we were in the wrong, for what we are still unsure!! I would also say we had a close shave as the place was scruffy inside and not a pleasant atmosphere.... avoid The Lawns restaurant at all costs.
The upside of this story is that we miraculously managed to get seated at The Feathers Hotel and had the best meal and experience of our holiday, the staff were amazing, the restaurant warm and inviting plus immaculately clean.

Today myself and my 9 mth old baby met up with 2 friends for lunch at the lawns which has just recently been done up. We heard the food and place were now very good but we were looking extremely disappointed. We arrived to none of the 3 staff on the floor wearing masks which we thought was compulsory. We were seated at a table that was not cleaned from previous use so we asked for it to be cleaned. The food was very average but over priced. Both waitresses had skirts on so short their bum cheeks were hanging out the back of them! Not what we want to see whilst eating. The high chair was not clean and I wiped it before using it. I then went to change my baby to discover that there are no changing facilities. The disabled toilet is big enough to have a changing table but there isn’t one. I would say this is not a family friendly establishment and would not be recommending it to anyone.

We where informed that meals would be served at The Feathers, and was made aware in advance no restaurant or bar service in The Lawns. Sadly though The Lawns just feel neglected, had trouble finding the correct door to go in, basically its the staff door under the fire escape!! You enter into what I can only describe as a service area, not nice at all! Room pleasant enough, bathroom...had a bath with shower attachment but no where to put the shower, so I was a bath only, made me chuckle that a shower cap was supplied! Water was boiling hot, so take care. Be nice to be able to leave key at The Lawns when leaving, as going backwards and forwards for breakfast, packing and then back again to drop the key off was slightly frustrating. Luckily the weather was dry so not an issue this time. If staying again would just book The Feathers, personally feel The Lawns should be closed until fully up and running.
