this hotel is in the wilds if norfolk and a very nice hotel it is. a warm friendly welcome. we were shown to our accomodation which we later found was called the 'nelson suite' for which we paid just £65.00 inc breakfast. i am not saying anything else about this but if you visit this hotel try and get 'the nelson suite' you will not be dissapointed.. we were a party of nine for dinner which was very good indeed and though it was evening the 'sunday roast' was excellent, as was my usual battered haddock and chips. as i mentioned breakfast was included and i do not mean a roll and jam, i had the most wonderful 'kipper and poached egg' i have had for years. i really nice stay. one small point! £7.00 for a gin and tonic is a bit steep i think. which reminds me the stairs are really really steep so take care. larry

This hotel has so much potential, if only the service lived up to the same potential. It seemed like the staff have never run a hotel before. The level of service was extremely slow all weekend. We ate in the restaurant on the first evening and the beef burger was advertised as having a brioche bun, instead we received a frozen bun which fell to pieces when you attempted to eat the burger. The breakfast service was extremely slow, 20 minutes to wait for menu's, then they take your drinks order, another 20 minutes wait before they take your food order, and then another 20 minutes before your food arrives cold and again not representing what was on the menu. When ordering the Salmon, which stated on the menu that it come with scrambled egg, the egg was missing and the waiter/hotel manger said, you didn't ask for egg!!!. Tables remained un clear and two coffee cups sat outside for 3 days before being removed. At dinner and at breakfast, the manager love to tell you about the amount of money that the new owners have spent on the place and about all of the problems that they have experienced.

The hotel bedroom was cold, when asked if they could put the heating on, the response was that they couldn't has it would make the downstairs rooms in the hotel too warm.

As some of over family were staying in the stables, the heating in the room packed up, the WiFi didn't work. When asked about the WiFi, the manager said that you need to connect to WiFi in the hotel first and then when you get back into the Stable it should work. No mention of this when we checked in or in the information pack provided in the room.

On checking out, no one asked if we enjoyed our stay and if there was any problems. It seems like if this hotel is to live up to it potential, it needs more staff and better management.

On arrival met by a lovely young lady who went through the usual booking in routine including the covid rules. We were told to wear our face masks while moving around the hotel but during our stay we noticed guests and staff with no masks walking around and the decorators, and nothing was said to them. Hand gel was provided at the entrance and in the room.

Our room was spotlessly clean and ready an hour before check in. The towel rail didn't work and the room was a little chilly but there was a small electric heater in the room and that soon took the chill off and the towels soon dried hung over the door.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch in the bar area. Also the homemade scones were delicious.
Unfortunately when it came to our evening meal they had run out of steak and burgers something for which the chef was blamed for. We chose the fish dishes instead unfortunately the chips which were served with the scampi were very thick and soaked in oil. They tasted like they had been reheated and were just about warm so we left them as didn't want to risk been unwell. The fish was very dry and tasteless. We decided not to make a fuss as we could see the staff were obviously struggling.
Breakfast was delicious. Traditional full English served hot and quickly however we ordered toast but we're not offered any jam or honey even though it states on the menu toast served with jam marmalade and honey. Also had to ask for butter but again this was a busy time and only the manager was serving whilst answering the phone and dealing with other guests.
I'm sure when the refurbishment is complete and they employ more staff to cope with busy food service times it will be a 5 star establishment.

We have not stayed here recently but live within walking distance and the hotel is in a lovely setting, perfect for a stroll, a pre dinner drink and an evening meal. Somewhere we would take friends who visited. When the hotel reopened after the Covid lockdown we believe there was no chef. Now the hotel seems to be fully functioning again but we have not seen any local advertisements to promote the hotel or signs to attract passing trade to the restaurant, so unsurprising that the Saturday evening we visited there were a few tables occupied and a large empty conservatory. We understand that there may not be a high demand for vegan meals but the menu has V (vegetarian) and VG (vegan) on the key but the main dishes have no vegetarian options, let alone vegan. If we were looking for somewhere to stay we would have excluded the hotel on the menu alone. Gone are the days when we would have to make do with side dishes of chips and salad. We expect more - a little bit of effort and imagination. Look at what is going on in the county now. Vegan menus offered, not just one dish; vegan afternoon teas and vegan Sunday lunches. Clear keys on the menus so there is no need to ask or feel unsure about ingredients. In addition the attitude seemed to be very take it or leave it and the music blearing out was so awful we had to move away. At least 50 year old tunes, including some head banging, not very relaxing and Sonny & Cher 'I Got You Babe' - REALLY? This place needs a kick into the 21st century.

I saw it on a website, I wanted to make sure that the Restaurant and Bar would be open as it wasn’t in a Town. I phoned and spoke to Mark the manager, he said yes and would I like to book. He gave me a price of £400 for two nights B&B, I told him it was £349 on a website, so he matched the price saving himself 17% commission not me. So booked on the 12th, all monies taken. He told me their website on the internet was the old one and not theirs, when the Email confirmation came through it directed me to the old website for the T’s & C’s. On the 17th a phone call from Mark saying due to new equipment coming in, the Kitchen wouldn’t be open on the Thursday.
That should have been the warning, we arrived to dirty laundry all over the floor that we had to walk around and checked in, we had to drive for Dinner so no alcohol for me. I asked what time the Bar was open to, he said its open now but will be closed a 6, so no Bar either, he left a bottle of Wine in the room as a gesture. There isn’t a night porter and there is nobody on site and the Hotel is left unlocked all night! Then as bad liars often do they forget what they have said, he blamed the Restaurant being closed on the owner, so not new equipment it just wasn’t open.
The next day after returning at about 3.30 we found the room had not been touched, we had dinner at the hotel which was good but had to ask for Tea bags for the room as nothing had been done. We were woken at about 12.45 with a loud droning humming noise reverberating through the bathroom wall. We could not sleep, in the end we couldn’t stand it any longer and went downstairs and sat in reception until the Chef arrived at about 7.30, I had narrowed the noise down to the Kitchen, from outside the Kitchen door, it was directly below our room. I went in the Kitchen with the Chef and found out it was an automatic tap which had stayed on all night, just the droning electric noise through the pipes. We came down early for Breakfast, Mark had arrived by then, and we told him how bad it was, he had the cheek to say ‘I wonder what that was’ I told him and also that the Chef had already told him. A half-hearted apology and then he seemed to disappear, we left the key on the reception desk and left. I expected an apology at least and maybe an offer to show that they could look after guests properly, but nothing. This is an expensive B&B at £175 a night and would expect better. Hotel Wroxham is connected to this Hotel.

The Inn was easy to find as it was just outside North Walsham with good links to the coast and to Norwich. We checked later than intended but were greeted by staff who said not to worry. We were shown where we would have breakfast (included in the price), and then to our room which was cosy and comfortable. Although there were patrons below we could not hear them from our room which was very good as we wanted to watch TV and have a nice quiet evening.

I'm writing this review on behalf of my elderly parents who had a two night stay at this hotel a week ago. They booked the hotel after viewing the attractive photos on the website. Unfortunately when they arrived they discovered they had been allocated a tired and dated room that hadn't been refurbished and was nothing like the photos. The bathroom in particular was dated, the shower was over the bath and there was no anti-slip mat or grab handles. My parents raised the accommodation with the receptionist who said the manager would get back to them. At check out they raised the accommodation again and were told by the receptionist that the general manager would get back to them either that day or the next. This didn't happen. My parents have sent a follow up email in the form of a complaint that raises issues with the accommodation and asking for a response but none has been received. My parents booked the accommodation about 8 weeks in advance and apparently the accommodation was four star. However, their room was very sub-standard and they have not received any customer care. Would not recommend!

I don't normally write reviews but have made an exception for this beautiful place.
We had a 'spur of the moment' night away to celebrate our anniversary and booked a stay here.
Yes they aren't running on full power as they are, like many places, reestablishing themselves post lock down. We were told that it would be on a b&b basis as the restaurant and bar weren't operational.
The place is stunning. You can see the love that has been poured into the place during the extensive refurbishment.
We stayed in the Nelson Suite. Heaven! The most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. The rooms were spotless and the addition of decaf coffee was a rare treat.
Everyone was so friendly and kind and the staff go the extra mile to make the stay pleasant for guests.
The young lady serving breakfast was so calm and professional even though the place was fully booked and busy for breakfast....which was absolutely delicious.
The icing on the cake had to be the thoughtful welcome pack for our little Cockapoo. Dog bed, treats, bottled water, poop bags, even a small towel for wiping wet paws. AND she had a scrambled egg breakfast!
Thank you so much for making our first break away post lock down so wonderful.
We'll see you again.

We were extremely disappointed by our stay at this establishment. A few days before we arrived we were informed that the restaurant would be closed during our visit. This turned out to be a problem as we found two local Chinese restaurants were closed and two pubs close by were not serving food. We ended buying food from a supermarket.

A few hours before we were due to arrive we were called and informed that there would be no staff at reception until 4 pm and that our room key would be left on the counter. After checking in we tried to use the T.V., however this was found to be dis-connected.

Information in the room indicated breakfast is served from 7.30 am. We went down to the dining room at 7.50 am, however there was no staff to be found. Another couple was also waiting. We waited until 08.15 am and as there were no staff around, we decided to call the hotel's emergency number and were told a member of staff would be there soon. When a member of staff arrived no apology nor explanation was offered.

Our room rate was £130.00 per night, which, in our opinion, is over priced.

We consider the service provided by the hotel is extremely unsatisfactory and unprofessional. We do not recommend this establishment.

This is advertised as a pet friendly place. I booked through Booking.com due to the Inn advertiseing their pet friendlinees. The Inn were quick to take my money then i was to told less than 48 hrs before my stay i could no longer take my pooch as the room they had allocated me were not allowed dogs in it and there were no other.

The advertising should have read 'Allocated pet friendly rooms only - please enquire'.
Since the Inn have refused to refund my booking as following a recent bereavement i would not have considered attending withough my dog. Appauling customer service. the manager would not make a decision on the refund and so far the owner is unengaging.

when you book with booking.com it does ask you to contact the hotel immediately to inform them that you require your pet to also attend. The reason being not all rooms are pet friendly and some people have severe allergies. You are asked to contact the hotel, but on this occasion the manager was somewhat confused and we agree gave you a very bad service. We sincerely appologise for their misleading comments and yes we are pet friendly and the manager has left! So sorry!

You would need to check with them about the stable block rooms. The main house has most rooms up Georgian stairways so that doesn't sound practical.

Hi,we're the ones who ar e mentioned above with the guide dog!..spooky!....we are even going back there for this weekend...plus dogs. If you speak to Ian he will tell you what is on offer ....we previously stayed in "the Stables" which is like a self contained flat, with three bedrooms,sitting/dining/kitchen area and a great adjacent field to the back door almost to run the dogs...however,this time we have elected to be in the main building of the hotel as we have friends travelling with us....best person to liaise with is obviously Ian though...but can recommend the ambience ,food and friendliness of the place.
