We wants to go somewhere for dinner tonight that we had never been to before and thought we would try here. Thought it might be quiet but there were a few people in the bar, which was incredibly welcoming. Wood burner and a few dogs, what more could you want from a pub on a cold night. We had to...

Good value for money, just a couple of tiny things wrong stopped me from giving 5 stars. 1 The boiler was not working so no central heating in our room, two electric heaters had been placed in the room the main room was 33c and the bathroom was really cold!! 2 there was a couple of light bulbs out in...

Clean, quiet and friendly staff. The food is not amazing but nice. Lovely view , dog friendly near the beach. This hotel is perfect for a quick break. Some room nicest that other, I would call the hotel prior booking.

We stayed at the ship many years ago , but have returned over the years to dine here when we are on holiday in the area. It hasn't changed much over the years, thank god! it still feels like a pub, you don't feel guilty just sitting down for a drink. Food is very good, beer too good(hic!) one issue...

Had a package deal on Boxing Day night, included a fantastic three course meal and breakfast, we came with our friends and two dogs between us. Rooms so clean and comfortable and we were, as ever, made to feel so welcome. Breakfast was superb, set us all up for the day and long beach walking. Even the dogs got sausages....

Called for lunch on the way to minsmere nature reserve small car parts but adequate at this time of year. This is an old pub - no fruit machines or TV (great!) old time floors & an old fashioned tiled floor. Food was good & staff were competent - could do with some more decoration to make it more welcoming.

We recently booked a one night stay in one of the 'best' rooms. Check in was easy and we were made to feel very welcome. The Ship is an old building so can look tired in places but this does add to the character. Some rooms are accessed by stairs so do check this when booking if you have mobility...

We spent Christmas travelling in Suffolk in our camper. No family this year. The Ship at Dunwich made the perfect lunchtime stop. White baite was an old favourite that I had not eaten for many years. Just the job and a generous helping made this a good refuelling stop. Warm log fire and a welcome from all the staff. Thanks...

We've spoken of staying at the Ship for Christmas for years, we've still not managed it! But walking into the ship today, family and dog, has sealed the deal. Beautifully rustic, lovely atmosphere, handsomely decked out for the holidays!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Once a haunt of smugglers, The Ship Inn isn't just a great place to eat, drink, relax and get away from it all – we like to think it's also part of a great story. Now a quiet, idyllic village surrounded by nature reserves, heathland and beach, only the romantic ruins of Dunwich monastery remain to hint at the fate of this once thriving medieval port claimed by the waves during a terrible storm. It's said you can still hear the peal of the church bells beneath the waves. While we can't guarantee that, there are certain, more earthly things we're always happy to provide… real ales, real food and a real fire. You will find: a great pub, home-cooked food in our restaurant, a cosy hotel with comfortable, traditionally furnished bedrooms, some with views across the sea or marshes. There is also an enormous garden dotted with fruit trees (including our 300 year old fig tree) and a beach that really is just a couple of minutes walk away. Whether you want to use it as a base to explore this wild and wonderful coastline, enjoy some of the best fish and chips on the Suffolk coast or simply indulge in a pint or two of Adnams, The Ship Inn at Dunwich extends the warmest of welcomes. ... more   less
