We stayed at the Old Vicarage for one night in early October. Jane couldn't have been more welcoming. We were offered tea and excellent advice for eating out. Even better, Jane called a couple of places she recommended (which were fully booked) but persisted and we ended up in the Black Bull Inn in Balsham about 8 miles away. It... More

Really enjoyed our one night stay at The Old Vicarage after attending a funeral in Suffolk. Jane was an excellent host and very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. She provided tea on arrival in their large impressive sitting room, grand yet comfortable, overlooking the conservatory and its colourful plants and flowers. Our room was huge with a magnificent view... More

This is a perfect stop for the first night when walking the Stour Valley path from Newmarket. We arrived wet & tired to be greeted with a very welcome pot of tea & home-made cake and shortbread. Jane had previously advised us that the local pub was closed & had offered to cook a meal, & we were definitely the... More

Having just been on a weekend racing at Newmarket, we stayed at The Old Vicarage for one night. The house and grounds are beautiful - and Sam and Jane are excellent hosts. The rooms are large and whilst are comfortable, they are very much in keeping with the age / period of the house - so don't expect modern furnishings!... More

This is an excellent B&B where the hosts Jane and Sam make one feel totally at home. We were a small group of friends attending a nearby wedding and the Old Vicarage provided the very best of English country hospitality. Our hosts were flexible and accommodating and made every effort to ensure we enjoyed our weekend in rural Suffolk with... More

Jane was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you to make our stay comfortable. Rooms were very clean and the whole house had lots of character. Breakfast was lovely with homemade Marmalade, fresh eggs from their Hens as well. Woke to a beautiful view from our bedroom window. Very enjoyable stay.

We have visited Newmarket and July Racecourse/July Cup-meeting several years now and we always stay at the Old Vicarage and Jane Sheppard. We cannot think of a better place to spend a week! Jane and The Old Vicarage offers all that we look for in a B&B, at the countryside of Norfolk. Jane’s home-picked raspberries and strawberries, that she provides... More

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at The Old Vicarage for two nights in July 2015 and were thrilled with our experience. We had been on a driving holiday through the UK and had some wonderful experience of English country life but the hospitality and convivial atmosphere at The Old Vic was a cut above the rest.... This was a first visit of a few to the area and we looked around a bit to find a place that we could relax at after a 4 hour journey and not somewhere like the busy and noisy London hotels we stayed in earlier in the week. This place was completely what we were looking for and will definitely... More
