Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Needs more toilets and showers for the amount of people on site Sewage smell by the river Not the worst but not the best I stayed in a bell tent, If I went again I would go in a lodge as very damp as in shaded woods

Stayed at Blue Bell Coppice in a Touring caravan for a week in September. We stayed in September out of term time and the site was beautifully peaceful, nice honesty shop selling ice creams and coffees and nice clean hot showers. The site is situated well off the beaten track and is surrounded by trees, lots of wildlife can be seen throughout the day. The campsite is good value for money in low season and is a good base for Hastings and the South coast. We would definitely stay again but would avoid staying at a weekend as the site is very popular with young families and the large play area is adjacent to the touring pitches

Just arrived back from a couple of nights at bluebell. The site is so clean and tidy and the facilities are first class.Really loved the honesty shop where you could get a lovely coffee, ice cream, chocolate bars or cold drink plus things you might have forgot like charcoal etc..The main thing I liked was how the management made sure after 10pm noise was at a minimum which really helps if your in a tent. The owners are lovely to speak to and would like to give a special mention to the lovely scouse lady never got her name who was always around if we needed anything. We will definitely be returning next year.

We booked a 3 night last minute camping trip as the weather was looking decent (finally), and we had a great time here! Pitches were generous, flat and with plenty of room. Kids loved the playground which is situated in a central location, they also discovered a rope swing in the wood! They both made plenty of friends with the other kids in the evening. Felt like a nice safe site. The “woodland walk” was one side of the wooded valley, and full of large tree stumps and gulleys - perfect for some adventuring! The owners were really helpful and polite whenever we needed to ask them anything. We particularly appreciated the evening walk around each pitch to ask if we’d like to preorder any pastries for the morning - great touch! The honesty shop was well stocked, with cold drinks, ice cream, milk, wood, bbq coal and more. Bacon and eggs could be found at the main reception. Facilities were clean - only a couple of toilets and showers as many pitches/pods had their own. We found we didn’t have to wait once. Only small gripe was the car parking spaces next to the pitch, ours was pretty tight to manoeuvre into - however, this was only a small inconvenience. Thank you for the lovely stay! We’re planning to return next year with more family members 😊

Great relaxing stay, Had a fantastic time , It was a genuine country retreat but with excellent facilities. Close enough to battle for a walk across the fields but far enough away to be quiet. Excellent local pub .We have already booked for next year.

Extremely disappointed. We had book for a few days over bank holiday. Only on Friday when we received the message at 1900, that apparently our pitch was waterlogged, but yet the email received stated a system booking error, emmmm,? To which the site informed us the late that night our booking had been cancelled. Was not happy amd caused alot of stress finding a last minute booking.

Rustic & higgledy piggledy is how I would describe this site. It's not a nice looking site at all and rather unkempt & scruffy in places. There are various types of pitches; bell tents (to hire) then campervan pitches, chalet type buildings (to hire) & tent pitches all compactly mixed together on different levels. If you want a site with neatly cut grass & hedges & pretty flower beds this is not the site for you. I usually go for a well manicured site. The contradiction to this basic camping is that they also offer pitches with private bathroom facilities! This is a luxury! We went in our campervan & booked the private facilities; we had our own toilet, sink & shower with a heated towel rail! I've never had this luxury on a campsite before. (You could argue I'm not a 'true camper'!!) I loved this & to be fair our pitch was good. When we arrived Joules showed us to our pitch & we asked her which way round she wanted us to park. Her reply was, 'I don't care, it's your pitch; do what you want.' Joules & her husband were very friendly & helpful & so was Anna & the cleaning staff. Also I often book Adults only sites & there were a lot of kids here & what a perfect place for them because there's a play area in the centre & I heard many of them having adventures in the woods. I actually loved the liveliness of this sight & hearing the kids having fun & being compact pitches created a more sociable vibe. See; my review is full of contradictions! I love the honesty shop; handy for essentials. A disadvantage for me is that you can't (it would be dangerous in my opinion) cycle from the site because of the long narrow lane on the approach to the site. I did actually walk from the site into Battle - 1.5 miles to the the top of the lane to the main road (no path) & then 2 miles into Battle which took me 1 hour. I prefer a site to be a closer distance & easier walking to the nearest coffee shop/village/town or a bus stop close by. Would I stay here again? That's a tough one, I don't know. This site has masses of potential. Hastings is a long drive from home & generally I didn't rate the area of Hastings. Battle & Eastbourne are lovely though but the other areas are quite run down. Contradictions! - You decide

Visited in August . We were a couple and really the campsite is more geared to families, certainly in school holidays. Maybe a different story in term time. That said, facilities and setting were great and proximity to station very useful.

We had a wonderful time at Bluebell Coppice. The owners couldn't have been more helpful, the facilities were always clean and the playground is great for children. We are already planning our return visit!

An enchanting campsite in an idyllic location that you wouldn't know was there. Coffee is available on site with an honesty system .We particularly appreciated the facilities which were spotlessly clean. Some pitches have their own bathrooms which went down very well with the girls. we had a perfect break.
