oh my gosh where to start! we have just got home from a relaxing 2 night stay ( 6th - 8th May )in this beautiful, historical medieval B & B in the beautiful village of Burwash, From the very first moment Mathew opens the huge ancient front door you feel very special and your comfort is all important to him , after a tour and brief history of the hall we were show to the Labrador suite, stunning room on split levels with meticulous decor, hand made wallpaper, view of the garden and hills, tea and fresh coffee to be drunk from porcelain cups, pottery tea pot warm home made cookies ( to die for ) Eco products in bathroom. The cosiest quilt and luxury linen on a huge comfy bed. After having a nice walk and meal in local pub we came back to find the bed ready and hot water bottles for extra cosy ness, Breakfast was a real delight, home made berry granola and a Spanish baked egg dish one day and fluffy american pancakes with maple syrup the next. Mathew is the perfect host nothing is to much trouble and his local knowledge was very useful for evening walks. we will definitely go back again. Thank you both for a very memorable weekend.…
fab host, ye olde worlde house, stunning decor, spotlessly clean, comfy bed, crisp linen, hot water bottle, attention to details, large hot bath, memorable 'spanish egg' breakfast, matches any 5 star hotel for comfort and service. Inspirational decor themes, and I will attempt to copy the breakfast that did not disappoint. We will return to this quiet oasis, and you must go and stay.
What a lovely stay at this charming, comfortable and beautifully designed B&B. My husband and I came to stay for two nights in August and we would go back in a flash. Matthew was a wonderful host, and put a huge amount of care into making our stay as special and comfortable as possible. It's all the little touches that made it such a nice experience. The home made cookies in our room on arrival were Soo good, and the breakfast was just spot on with top local ingredients and dishes expertly prepared. He and his partner also advised us of a good place to go walking and even lent us their map and picnic blanket, as well as directing us to a lovely farm shop where we got sandwiches made up prior to our walk :) We stayed in the garden room which was perfect, the bed was super comfortable (being over 8 1/2 months pregnant achieving this was no mean feat) and the bathroom (with lovely bath and shower) was delightful. Matthew welcomes you into Pelham as if you were an old friend and is charming, authentic and attentive, but not at all intrusive. The house itself is steeped in history and has been beautifully restored. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here and hope to return!…
The village of Burwash in East Sussex is a lovely English village . In its centre sits the ancient Pelham Hall lovingly restored by its owners Mathew and his partner. This 3 bedroom Boutique Hotel is luxurious offering beautiful bedrooms and scrumptious breakfasts ! It's owners cannot do enough for you ! Set in the Wealds its the ideal place for visiting Batemans, Sissinghurst, Bodiam Castle or just for exploring the glorious surrounding countryside . There's even a Farm nearby that will make you a picnic ( recommended helpfully by Mathew ) . Pelham Hall is a magical place and I was in 2 minds whether to keep this find a secret so I could always return ! But it's nice to share good things . Mary I'Anson
We had very high expectations of this B&B ,in fact I'm generally not keen on the idea of a small ,intimate establishment, but Pelham Hall and it's fantastic host has blown that out of the water ! My husband and I were the only guests,9dont let that put you off) for a mid week break and stayed in the lovely Labrador suite ,which has its own private entrance, is set across two floors and a mezzanine which is a sitting /T.V area.It is beautifully furnished with an eclectic mix of furniture and fittings. handmade wallpaper, top range bed linen (my 4oo thread feel like sandpaper now sadly),great shower, bathrobes, hot water bottles at night, excellent tea and coffee provided along with Victorian hand-painted cups and saucers and THE most delicious home made biscuits . Matthew is the perfect host and has taken such pride and care in the restoration of this beautiful property. situated on the small high street with a couple of local pubs , tea room and mini market, it is an excellent base to explore this area of Sussex which has so many interesting sights to see. Matthew gave us some excellent tips, all of which were spot on. Breakfast was.........unsurpassed. we stayed 3 days , which really wasn't long enough to sample all that was on offer. The full English on the first day was excellent and cooked to order.Faultless. The American Pancakes- sublime .The home made berry Granola is exquisite, so much so my bacon -sandwich- type of guy husband has requested my poor imitation of Matthews' every morning upon our return home! A happy consequence being Hubby might actually get a healthy start to the day . I had the baked eggs with chorizo and manchego, so delicious I now have the recipie and it makes a perfect light supper dish too. Matthew is attentive, friendly and helpful , but not intrusive and wants everything to be right with his guests stay. This shows at every level, from the decor to the coffee, the linens to the conversation. We loved our stay here and plan to return with friends. Don't hesitate !…
