Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Had a fantastic overnight stay package in mid november, the food, room and staff were all brilliant. We played the Woosnan on what was one of the wettest days of the year so underfoot it was hard going and difficult to make the shots you wanted to. Fantastic course layout and would love to play when it's a bit dryer. Played the old course the following day, which again was a great challenge, club selection of the tee being key. Holes 13 and onwards were by far the most stunning. Would recommend a golf break to anyone.

We booked 2 rooms for an overnight stay a few days before arriving. Booking was easy with quick responses by email from Tabitha. We arrived in the dark, the hotel seemed quiet, check in was fine and we quickly found our rooms. The rooms were spacious, bedding and towels were fresh and clean. The general cleanliness wasn’t that great, stains on decorative pillows, mould on silicone in the shower and hairs in the bath from previous guests. We went to the orangery for some food, staff were pleasant, the food was great but the cleanliness let it down, crumbs on the floor and chairs and dead flies on the window sill. We enjoyed a swim and sauna. The pool was a good temperature. The drinking water dispenser didn’t have any water in it and the clock wasn’t working - these little things make a difference. Breakfast was delicious, the restaurant was the cleanest and best maintained of all rooms. The head waitress seemed a little irritated by the customers, rolling her eyes and puffing at requests. The sanitary dispenser didn’t work in the main toilets, and no member of staff could open it or provide items, which caused us a bit of a stress - another little thing that would have made a difference.

I was a part of a large group and was lucky enough to get a room in the newer annex. The bed was super comfy and the room was lovely and cool despite the heatwave. Some Others were in the older part of the hotel and o think rooms were probably less good though they did have a bath rather than a shower which I normally prefer. The evening meal was good though the waiting staff were overstretched. Someone on my table had to remind them about the bottle of wine they had ordered and I had to go to the bar to order a second glass. Breakfast was very varied and good. The courses were interesting and in good condition. I found the newer Ian woosnam course too challenging with long carries from the tee on some holes but I am a rubbish golfer and most people, especially men, wouldn’t have had a problem.

Went here as a little treat. The room was huge and was more than we were expecting. The pool and sauna were in perfect condition and was a nice way to wind down from a long drive down there. The bed was so comfortable! Best night sleep I've had in a long time, we didn't want to get up in the morning, setting alarms to get up for breakfast was difficult 😂 The only downside was the timings for breakfast. Had to wake up early for breakfast then waited around in the room until checkout. Granted we could have left early but would have been better if breakfast could be extended by another hour or two so could've ate then left instead of waiting.

My husband and myself aren't golfers and would have been unlikely to book this hotel. A joint birthday gift voucher brought our attention to it. We booked in April and decided to upgrade our room to executive We arrived with no preconceptions, the girl on reception was welcoming, told us about the facilities available to us during our stay. We booked dinner for 8.30 & we were told they had two large groups so that was the earliest, as a rule we don't eat early so happy with that The room was large , comp tea, coffee & milk, very comfortable bed with a view over the fairway, large ensuite bathroom w shower and bath, nice and clean. We used the pool and sauna, the pool was a lovely temp and we had it to ourselves for 15 mins or so After pre dinner drinks we made our way to the restaurant, it's large and bright so not an intimate experience but tables were set nicely & again our welcome was warm. I had the most delicious goats cheese & beetroot salad followed by salmon which was beautifully presented. Husband had the pork belly which he enjoyed. We'd ordered cheesecake but we were so full we almost cancelled it, it was lovely so glad we didn't. Staff were attentive, friendly & professional. A good choice of breakfast in the morning and served until 10am. Pastries, cereals, fruit , yoghurt and full english. We were greeted by the same girl as the previous evening, I think she may have been a manager, she was bright & welcoming, had a chat with us and offered tea or coffee, a pot of coffee was bought and a pot of tea, a real treat as often in hotels it's a hot drinks machine. Check out is at eleven. There was some confusion at reception as to wether we had paid our upgrade at the time of booking but the system said we hadn't and with no bank record from us we decided that the system was probably correct. I would advise checking the exact cost of an upgrade, we were told £15 but didn't realize that was each. The exact amount in the end was printed on the bill as £40 , the receptionist didn't know why, we decided not to end our stay on a negative note over £10 so just paid it. Altogether an enjoyable stay. Definitely somewhere that would appeal to groups, excellent for team building events and anyone who enjoys golf .

We used a virgin experience voucher for a one night stay including breakfast the next day. Swimming pool and sauna facilities were very good, the gym was also good. Lovely view from our room over the chipping green and first tee. Extremely comfy bed had a great nights sleep. Staff were all very friendly and polite. The breakfast was also great.

Recently stayed for a golf weekend, had a package that included room with evening meal and breakfast plus two rounds of golf. Package was a bargin , two great golf courses , lovely evening meal and great breakfast choice. Only compliant would be the temperature in the room , with no air conditioning to control the heat, the room became always unbearable even with the windows open as far as I could. I would point out that as there was a group of 8 on us we had 5 rooms in total and the temperature was not better in any of them.

Thank you for your review and it is certainly good to hear how much you enjoyed your golf break and that your golf and food experiences exceeded your expectations. Our hotel is a traditional style hotel with no air conditioning and heated in the winter through radiators. We do offer extra flat sheets to replace duvets on hot days within bedrooms as well as the use of a fan. With the weather being so poor over the last few weeks, I am surprised this was an issue. I do hope you may choose to return in the future. Kind Regards Carl

Following what can only be described as appalling service in the bar and restaurant I contacted the general manager to complain and ask for an amount of money to compensate me for my experience. This request was refused. I resorted to using the Small Claims process and received compensation without debate.

The room was very good and had all that would be needed for a short stay. The staff at reception and in the bar were friendly and helpful. We were going to a wedding in the nearby village (Ticehurst). No taxis so had to walk. I would suggest that the management lobby for some pavements as walking around there seems a dangerous occupation.
