Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club offers a peaceful retreat, nestled in picturesque scenery that delights numerous guests. While the hotel's cleanliness, including spotless rooms and pristine bathrooms, often receives commendation, some visitors have encountered service inconsistencies, such as protracted waits and staff that aren't always accommodating.
The hotel's tranquil atmosphere and spacious rooms with comfortable beds are well-received, yet calls for modernization and improved temperature control suggest areas for improvement. Travelers are divided on the value proposition, acknowledging attractive deals but pointing out dated aspects and pricey dining options.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed one night only shortly after the hotel re-opened following the closure during lockdown due to Covid-19. We felt very safe, there were hand sanitizing stations upon entry and on entry to the restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room spotlessly clean and spacious, and quiet on the Friday we stayed. We took advantage of the special deal that included room breakfast and a 2 course evening meal. The food was good, arrived promptly and the staff polite. The tables were well distanced. We would definitely stay again when visiting family in the area. No complaints.

The room was very nice we paid the extra to upgrade to a double room each
The whole venue was spotlessly clean as were the rooms
Both golf courses are nice but need a little bit of care after the recent rain
Five or six holes on the Woosnam course were like a mud bath on the back nine!
On arrival the bar service was very slow and we did have to catch waiters eye and be quite firm that we wanted a drink and some food soon
We had the inclusive set menu in the restaurant and the food was very average to be honest.
On the second day we had a booked teatime which for some reason was running 40 minutes late with the blame on the pro shop staff who were very curt when I asked them what was going on??and even tried to shift the problem over to me with no apology!
Only then a atroppy starter and came out to organise the chaos on the first tee on the old course which was obviously brewing
Even after these small technical issues Dale hills is a lovely venue to stay and I would stay there again if the staff get sharpen up their act and remember who the customer is. (Especially the Club pro shop!!)

Thank you for your review, please accept my apology for the issues you experienced on the 1st tee last weekend. There were some unexpected problems on the day which caused the delay to play. We were doing our best to catch up as the day wore on. I am pleased you found the cleanliness to be at a high standard during your stay, it is important to hear that especially in these unprecedented times. In terms of service in Food and Beverage, some training is ongoing with some of the newer team members. I am pleased that you were able to enjoy your time with us and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Kind Regards Carl

My wife and I arrived on the Friday afternoon and were greeted warmly on arrival. We had requested a ground floor room and were given a pleasant room on the ground floor which was fully equipped with iron, kettle and hair drier etc . The room was clean except for the net curtains which had a layer of mould along the bottom foot . The bathroom was clean and useful but really small, you could barely move to dry yourself after a shower, no room for two.
We had a snack in the bar , scampi and chips , it was not only great but at £7 per head very good value.
We had the English breakfast and a croissant for breakfast and again the food was very good.
All in all a good stay

Started out good, we booked a suit at £130 which included breakfast. We arrived and had a warm welcome and advised if we want to eat we need to make a reservation so we did, and once we got to our room that’s where it started to go down hill.
Room 216
We unpacked and slowly started to notice that things didn’t work everything was a bit well used but we was we relaxed for a bit and the decided to get ready for dinner when I went to have a bath the water started coming out pure yellow / brown (see pictures)
I went and complained and was offered to either to flush the system or change rooms. We opted to change room.
Dinner
I didn’t understand the need for a reservation as the restaurant was half empty. The menu was very limited with only one option for a veggi/vegan
The food I did order was very tasty, l have no complaints.
Room 217
Room was a lot nicer and cleaner, so put us back in a nice mood and well as we where both “relaxing” (12:30am) a member of staff attempted to come in using a key, lucky I had locked the door! He was banging on the door trying to get in befor he realised that the door was locked. I stormed down to reception to see the manager who said sorry and that the room change was not on the list and that was it not attempt to rectify this.
Breakfast was ok, limited again there was choices to order off the menu but no explanation if these are chargeable and unwelcoming, other guests felt the same.
Would never return, definitely not a four star. AA rep must have had a back handed for this one !!

We visited dale hill on the 23rd October for a 3 round 2 night stay. The accommodation was ok the main gripe with the room was if you don’t time your shower well you end up with a luke warm shower no matter how you adjusted the shower thermostat. The restaurant food was very good and the service we received in the restaurant and at the bar was Very good in these very testing times.
We played the woosnam golf course twice , which after the very wet weather was a mud bath. The safest way to get around the course was to use a buggy around the very extensive cart paths. But on going to the pro shop we were told we couldn’t share a buggy even with our room mates even though we can share a room for 2 days we couldn’t get in a buggy together ( what a rip off).
For hotel guest that’s £30 a round even though members get a buggy half price. Unfortunately I didn’t get a buggy and ended up having a nasty fall on the treacherous 16th hole . If they would have been reasonably priced I would have had one, now it’s cost me days off work . My advice to anyone is don’t bother playing golf at dale hill in anything but accommodating conditions, so look at the weather, time of year etc it’s definitely not an all year golf course

Thank you for your review. The guidance from England golf is for golfers to not share buggies as you are not able to socially distance from each other in a buggy. In a bedroom this is achievable. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed your evening meal and our service team exceeded your expectations. I do hope we may be able to welcome you back in the future. Kind Regards Carl

+1
During my 2 night stay The hotel itself was nice, I was disappointed with our room. Considering the hotel is located on a beautiful golf course the view from my room was a corrugated building and a car park! I called reception to request a different room, I even offered to pay additional to upgrade to a better room but I was told I could only move for one night as the following evening the hotel was fully booked and I would have to go back into the room I was originally placed in.
The room I was in was very spacious, due to the very low sink and wet room bathroom which also had lots of hand rails I presume that I was placed in the room that would usually be saved for persons who needed wheelchair access. I believe this would be extremely helpful to someone who would need the space.
The room was not fully clean, there were a lot of very long dark hairs across the floor in the bathroom and lots of dust-webs on the ceiling. The bed was fresh and quite comfortable.
Dinner on our first evening was lovely, very good service given by the staff working that night. we chose the steak for our main which had a supplement price added I didn’t mind paying as the steak was delicious and a good portion size, I don’t think a supplement should be added for the starter of scallops as they were extremely small and only 3 are given. They were smaller than the size of a 10p piece.
Breakfast on our first morning was delicious, served promptly and again great service offered.
Breakfast on our final morning was a little bit lacking, the food was good as always however the service was not as good. It seemed only a couple of staff working, although the restaurant was not overly busy it took a while to place our breakfast order, when the breakfast arrived one of them were wrong, the staff did apologise and sent the breakfast back to be rectified.
We didn’t make any use of the pool/sauna, when we went to have a look it was a lot smaller than expected from the photos online.
Overall we had an enjoyable stay but it could have been even more enjoyable if I had a better view from our room.

Thank you for your review. It seems that for the most part your experience was very positive. I will use your feedback to make improvements in certain departments. We do have around half of our rooms with views of the golf course. Unfortunately with any building there is going to be some with out a view. When booking in the future please make a request for one of these rooms and if available then that will be confirmed for you. Kind Regards Carl

Previous to our arrival, we had emails to see if there would be anything the hotel could do to make our stay better. Car park was easy to park in. Plenty of space. Pool ams gym needed booking - covid regs I'm guessing.
Stayed one night. On the ground floor as requested. Upon arrival receptionist was pleasant and efficient. Room was well presented with everything we needed, including the iron/ironing board , hairdryer and kettle with bottled water.
Be aware this was the smallest bathroom I have ever encountered in a hotel. A large person may struggle. The room was generally clean however it could have been better. The tiles in the bathroom weren't the best they could have been and there was mould on the bottom of the patio door curtain. Hot tap had an issue. A little more attention to these areas would have made a difference to my scoring.
There is only a double bed in the room, not a king-size. I found it a bit hard but that is my personal opinion for others it maybe fine.
We went to The Orangery and ordered scampi and chips and drinks. All reasonably priced and the food was lovely. Hot, tasty and the service was good. The Orangery was noisy and this is where you notice it is clearly a golfers hotel maybe more regulars than hotel guests.
Breakfast in the morning was great plenty of choice full English was lovely, hot and service was great. The tea sadly was terrible. One teabag in a pot, I asked and got a further tea bag but it was like drinking warm milk. Maybe the hotel could look at this. Most people love a good cuppa in the morning and this just wasn't.
The staff were all pleasant and friendly and I would stay again, but maybe bring my own teabags lol.

Booked this hotel for a 2 night visit in February 2020. Used a deal via Travel Zoo for 2 nights with breakfast and evening meal included.. We picked this hotel as we wanted a base to visit some National Trust properties - the hotel is very close to Sissinghurst Castle, Bodiam Castle, Batemans and Scotney Castle. The breakfast was excellent and we both enjoyed the evening meals as well. Used the pool twice which was nice and warm and towels were provided by reception. Our superior room was a fantastic size and provided both a bath and separate shower. We were really pleased to have found this place and will return especially if we can get another offer via Travel Zoo !

I have been coming to Dale Hill with the same group of friends for the last ten years or so. As usual the golf side of operations was absolutely first class. The courses are great and everyone in the pro shop is helpful and accommodating.
Sadly the same can not be said of the hotel and in particular the food. The decor and atmosphere is dated, the staff act like it’s an imposition when you arrive for dinner and the food is atrocious. When we first visited the food was superb, how they claim to be award winning now is beyond me. Virtually inedible steaks that you pay a supplement for. Undercooked bacon at breakfast was the final straw. I recommend people come for the golf and eat at the Bell a fabulous pub 3mins from the hotel.
The hotel policy is to not clean or restock your room, meaning you have to make your own bed and ask at reception for every new loo roll, towel and toiletry. Why? If one chooses to stay in a hotel I don’t want to have to do these things personally.
The TVs in the rooms are so tiny as to be virtually unwatchable and the funiture/decor hasn’t changed in ten years and is seriously tired and in need of updating.
In summary would highly recommend the golf courses but avoid staying and eating at the hotel if you can.

I am very sorry to hear this feedback. We have been working through a refurbishment program with main hotel rooms being completed 6 years ago, our annex rooms completed 4 years ago and the new orangery eating area opening in July 2021. So there is a program of investment ongoing. The food experience was not up to scratch on this occasion, but you have had many positive experiences in the past so I am hopeful that you will give us another chance to impress in the future. Best wishes Carl Rundgren General Manager

Booked here for an early Wedding Anniversary as our other weekends are full.
Two receptions one spoke and the other ignored us completely, are smile, raised eyebrow or a hello wouldn’t have gone amiss.
We checked in and we’re told to walk through the bar and follow the path to our room, not ideal walking through the bar with 2 suitcases trying to walk past a lot of drinkers, we should have been told to go back outside and through the archway to our room.
We had dinner which was ok but nothing like we were expecting, the Panzanella salad was awful, there was no bread in it but the olives made up for it as there were about 30 all cut in half, who thought that was a good idea, they got pushed to one side. The beef was fine but the dessert was a sticky toffee pudding which wasn’t that nice, the brandy basket was quite stale and bent rather than cracked, the toffee pudding was like eating a washing up sponge.
Unfortunately breakfast on the Monday wasn’t much better, the service was terrible and so slow. We had to wait 15 minutes just to get a drink which arrived but no milk of orange juice as we ordered!!!
We waited again for someone to take our breakfast order but not knowing what we could have the waiter was quite shocked when we asked him. Two full English’s were ordered and came but with poached eggs instead of scrambled on one so had to wait for that to arrive again, the waitress couldn’t wait to disappear before I had a chance to ask for some sauces.
To be honest it wasn’t the best experience but not the worst, the room was great and clean, the shower was good too.
Let down by staffing issues that could easily be avoided and have put us off coming again.Shame as it’s not far from us.

Response from Carl Rundgren, General Manager at Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club
Responded 5 Sept 2020
Thank you for your review, please accept our apologies for the breakfast service on Bank Holiday Monday last week, we had staff that did not arrive for shift meaning the team were trying to catch up with themselves throughout service and inevitably some mistakes were made. I was Duty manager and was based around the Food and beverage team and reception throughout and no complaint was forthcoming about the breakfast service received which I would have very happily resolved face to face. I do hope you may give us a chance to impress in the future. Kind Regards Carl Rundgren General Manager

Hi, the courses are in good condition. Most golf courses in the local area have been affected by leatherjackets over the winter but we have remedied these issues and are now fully open.
