Stayed here last week. Check in was very smooth and the lady took us to our room which was a nice touch I thought. Room was really nice - plenty big enough for 2 people with a nice big bed. Décor was good with not much wear and tear that I could see. Bathroom was well-appointed

Mr Bollands Firstly, thank you for you kind remarks regarding our staff and food. These are highly appreciated as we all work hard to ensure our guests have the best possible experience with us. As for your comments regarding your 2 nights with us, you, as we all are, are entirely at liberty to express your personal opinion and I am going to express my own. Firstly, we are a family run restaurant and banqueting venue with rooms and we take your comments very personally indeed. Our rooms are incredibly well equipped and maintained (including bathrooms) and there are very many reviews on this website as a testament to that fact. You have been a previous (see below dear reviewers) and, unknown to us, unhappy guest so (knowing what you were getting) why did you bother to re-book? Furthermore, you Facebook messaged at 19.23 with your comments (again see below dear readers not at 11pm) and you have used this medium (TripAdvisor) to complain rather than speak to a member of staff, namely me, when invited to do so – an all too common and cowardly approach to problem solving. You have also not enlightened those reading this that you were offered a different room but again ignored the offer. In general, we take customer care very seriously and will do our best to make amends as we attempted with you. However, on this occasion I will make an exception and ask you never to book a room with us again. Your threats (once again readers see below) do not sit well with me and I am delighted that you have posted this review – those reading will now be able to see both sides and be able to conclude that reviews aren’t always as honest or full as they can be. And so readers the promised communication between myself and Mr Bollands: To the Lion Facebook: Yet again I am left disappointed with The Lion. I’m currently in Room 16, which has what I assume is restaurant customers smoking and shouting outside. Added to which, my room has no bath! So in summary, noisy, load and lacking basic facilities. I’ll be posting a public review upon leaving. I will not be staying here again and will be requesting that my employer takes this place off the approved list. To Mr Bolland I regret very much to receive your feedback and especially that you chose to facebook message rather come to or call reception regarding your dissatisfaction when we would have been able to address the things concerning you as far as possible. There is no note on your booking that you have specifically requested a room with a bath and as you checked in very early at just after 3pm we could at that time have moved your room to one with a bath to suit your preference if you had let us know. As for noise, I can only apologise that our guests arriving for Christmas meals and parties in the early evening disturbed you. Unfortunately, I can do nothing regarding consideration of others but again on another occasion if we know what you prefer we can locate you as best we can. If you should decide to book with us again, please let us know your preferences – we will always do our best to accommodate those whenever we can. I am in the building today until 5pm and I would be very happy to speak to you if you wish. Alternatively, if you can contact me prior to noon – and if you are happy for me to move your belongings - I will re-locate you for this evening to a room which you will hopefully find more suitable.
