Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Premier inn Chelmsford - terrible stay and a significant deterioration in Premier Inn's quality We stayed in a Premier Plus Room for which we paid we paid £234 for two nights. The quality of the room and the service provided by staff was very poor. Not worth the money. We felt unsafe in the room. We've stayed in many Premier Inn hotels in the past and this is a serious decline in quality and value for money. We cannot recommend this hotel and suggest people seek alternatives.   On arrival, we noticed the armchair and stool was stained presumably with bodily fluids. I reported this to reception who said it will have been deep cleaned but stain didn't come out.  It was a "clean stain" whatever that is. Also they were awaiting new furniture. I felt fobbed off. No offer of a change of room or good nights sleep guarantee. We also noticed the carpet was stained with lots of dots and smears presumably also "deep cleaned" and "clean stains". There was only one set of towels in room yet we'd booked the room for two. I had to go down three floors to reception wait in the inevitable queue to get more. Receptionist said housekeeping get confused. Again I felt fobbed off. On our second night, the two sets of towels were replaced with a single set.  Yet again I had to go down three floors to ask for another set for a second time at reception with the inevitable queue. In Premier Inns you now have to request at reception if you want your room cleaned. Next day we returned to our room. The bed hadn't been made, drinking glasses were not washed and two sets of towels replaced with a single set. We had to go down three floors, wait in queue at reception to ask for another set of towels for the second time in two days. There is no telephone in the room and no telephone number displayed in the room to ring if you need assistance. All you can do is head downstairs to queue for reception where you get fobbed off by an overworked staff member. We felt unsafe in our room. What if there was an incident happening in the corridor and you needed help? The good nights sleep guarantee says Premier Inn will get a refund if we have a poor sleep. This was not mentioned at any time by reception. We had to complain twice and each time we felt fobbed off. The only offer we had was a second set of towels. No mention of the guarantee. Our safety concerns were highlighted when we were disturbed from sleep at 6.20am when a member of staff knocking on our door telling us there was a flood downstairs. It would have been less intrusive if there was a phone in the room so they could ring us.  We weren't sure what the staff expected us to do but my wife said she would have been scared if she was in the room on her own with someone waking you up early in the morning.  Our sleep was disturbed and there was no mention of the good nights sleep guarantee. The dressing table top was stained with what looked like nail varnish or remover. We don't believe that's been deep cleaned! On arrival, we were told we have to book a table to eat in the Thyme restaurant and reception said we were unable to book a table until 8pm. We'd arrived at 6.30pm and were hungry and didn't want to wait an hour and a half for food so we had to go out for takeaway instead. The bathroom was in a better decorative state than the room but there are splashes of something on the wall next to the toilet and mould or staining where the shower screen meets the bath. It had not been cleaned properly. The shower is powerful but water leaks under the shower screen onto the floor. There is no non slip mat for the bath/shower which we found slippery when wet. There are no grab rails suitably placed to support when getting into and out of the bath. Wwe had to hold onto the towel rail which wasn't very substantial. When we checked in we were only given one card key. I had to go down to reception to ask for a second card so I could go out and my wife stay in the room. On the second day, one of the cards stopped working so my wife was stranded by the lifts and couldn't get to the room. She had to ask other guests to let her into the corridor. In the room, there's a folder that says it has enhanced hygiene promise called Premier Inn CleanProtect. Our photos show this is not happening. On the positive, it has a powerful shower but water leaks onto the floor. There are excellent complimentary toiletries and the room and corridor smells fresh. However, this was a terrible stay. So many things went wrong with poor quality and maintenance of the room and poor staff procedures.  We felt reception staff were tired of complaints and fobbed customers off rather than wanting to sort the problem.  We're not sure if the problem is just this hotel or a problem with the whole chain.  We cannot recommend this hotel and suggest trying another chain.

Hotel's Favourite
It's what I expected from Premier Inn, the usual full English breakfast as well as choice of fruit, baked goods and cereal were all there. The bed was nice and comfortable and the bedroom had the usual amenities (tea/coffee, shampoo and towels). I accidentally left my keycard in the room when I went down for breakfast, but this was resolved immediately when I brought it up at reception as the Thai lady who's name I've forgotten gave me a new keycard to my room and then I brought both keycards down afterwards as I checked out

Lost item in room. I could not raise the hotel on phone so I had to drive all the way back. I found out no phone rings so why was I left hanging on four times over listening to a dial tone. When you lose something in your room, you should be able to contact the hotel directly. In this case there was an option to do that by pressing # but then when no one answers, it’s down right inconsiderate. I bet this happens elsewhere. I’m tired of big companies not having people to talk to. And when o found two staff at reception and no phone ringing, I can clearly see it’s being avoided rather than dealt with. Never again!

Room was very clean and comfortable but the full English breakfast was very disappointing as some of the food was cold. Also the fire alarm was set off in the morning and when I went to ask reception if everything was okay the young lady did not respond at all. Surely they should have better procedures in place!!!

Excellent hotel, particularly for work related stays. Centrally located yet very quiet with comfortable, well equipped rooms. The customer service is good. Giulio, waiter/receptionist, has gone the extra mile for me on multiple occasions. He is very friendly and accommodating. The food is good.

It wasn't until the morning I noticed one of my pillows was dirty, looked like make up ( I don't wear make up) not just a smudge but whole corner. Overall cleanliness was disappointing, dusty vents, more attention to detail needed. Was very surprised as since covid all premier inns we've previously stayed in have been super clean. But not this one

Premier Lodge in Chelmsford offered the usual good standard of sleep, facilities and cleanliness- but what made this one more special was the quality of their staff. All the team were very welcoming and friendly. I was also very pleasantly surprised at the level of security, it made me feel very safe as a lone traveller.

The checking was fast but we would have preferred to know about early check in as we wasted time before arriving. Room looked very clean until we saw under the bed there was left over food. We had to report a few issues of things not working and they were not addressed throughout our stay. The bedding was clean then bed was very soft and our room was quiet even though it was opposite the restaurant. Would have been lovely if we'd have had the issues attended during our stay
