Check-in was efficient but not really the drive through set up the welcome emails would have you believe; it is easy to drive past it unaware but it is easier to park up and walk to the cabin. I think this works better than if cars had to queue at a gate.

27 Falcon Grove was our 2 bed deluxe caravan which was roomy, tidy, smart with good central heating and electric fire. Initial impressions of cleanliness were high due to the smell of bleach on opening but as the stay progressed it was clear the floor hadn’t been swept or mopped in some time. Other than that, only other quibbles were the double bed being on the small side and the shower unit didn’t have its own lighting and as a result was very dark.

Park grounds are clean and tidy but there are many areas of disrepair for example lifting and broken concrete roads which create a plethora of trip hazards, unsettling scraping noises when driving through, and deep puddles (which combined with the fact the roads are poorly lit make it difficult to navigate from one end of the park to the other at night).

Mash & Barrel restaurant serves food which is average at best and overpriced; we ate here every evening during our three night stay and over that time it became clear the food is low quality (for example steak and ale pie was clearly microwaved, peas fresh out the tin, and packet mash potato for nearly £12), which often not cooked to order (i.e. undercooked steak, ingredients we asked to be left off served, etc.).

Live Lounge is a decent entertainment venue but doesn’t open til after 21:15 and you’re not allowed to take a seat early despite there’s very few other places for guests to go even in times where the park clearly wasn’t full.

Entertainment was a brilliant band putting their own twists on classic 80s to present day tracks. Really enjoyed the night. Afterwards was a playful competition with a bottle of wine for the winner, followed by disco. Bar times reasonable: shut at 0030 with drinking up by 0100.

Ferryboat Inn pub was a short stroll from the caravan, independent from the park, and this reflects in how much cheaper their food and drink prices are, for example a pint of Amstel being 50p a pint cheaper than the on site Carling. Friday and Saturday they put on entertainment, so if you can’t get in the Haven entertainment, or fancy a change, head down.

Check out is 10am which should be reconsidered given that they expect guests to clean the caravan, take out the rubbish and strip the bedding for them prior to departure. Believe this was a temporary measure due to covid, but we’re 18 months on, so looks like it’s becoming the norm … cheeky!

We stayed at Butlins earlier in the year, and the experience wasn’t great. Given that Haven is also owned by Bourne Leisure, our expectations were low, but this experience has reassured us and we’re likely to use Haven again for short UK stays.

We've just returned from here and really enjoyed our stay. It was out first family holiday and we chose the stay option. Our caravan was spotless and in a good location (103 Lakelands) yes there was a little noise after the entertainment finished but we did not experience cars racing round the park as previous reviews suggest (being a light sleeper I would know). The shanty town between both sides of the park was a bit odd but there was good access to the beach and the park provided everything we wanted. Staff were very friendly in the supermarket and Mash and Barrel which we ate in once and was happy with. Thanks for a lovely stay

Not the best - Not the worst. Booked a touring pitch for 3 nights, numerous emails asking us for car registration and to register for a time slot for arrival.
On arrival day we were emailed the letter A for check-in.
Arrived in our time slot, no one on the gate, no one to advise us where to go. No letter A anywhere?! So drove around the very poorly sigh posted site to find the camping field.
Sign up saying “maybe cleaning, shout for assistance”.... unsure where to “shout” .. so called security. As had attempted numerous times to call reception with no answer.
A very lovely employee did arrive and advised us to pick a pitch.
We had to drive around a few times to find a pitch where people hadn’t plugged into 2 or 3 of the electric points for one caravan!
Pitches were a good size but the grass could of done with being cut before the site opened.
Only 50% of pitches were being sold for social distancing , so would have expected every other pitch to be cordoned off, but this was not the case, resulting in many groups of people negating social distancing!
Toilet/shower block was kept immaculately clean.
We spent one day fishing... good size break caught, however did not see a bailiff once, families with small children running around swims, throwing stones into the lake, feeding ducks bread... and constantly shouting and screaming to/at one another so we packed up.
The fish and chip van advertised “proper fish and chips”, this was frozen chips and fish bites.
The cleanliness and cheery touring area staff made up for the lack of any other staff, lack of welcoming on arrival, the reception being able to be contactable by phone.
I appreciate that it was the first week of opening, but feel that there are a few things that need addressing.
We are both key workers who after working 7 days a week on most weeks through out the lockdown, this break was certainly needed, but could have been more enjoyable.

Hi vinnysmrs Thank you for reviewing your Caravan and Camping stay with us. Email correspondence regarding car registration and arrival slot times are being sent to all of our Guests prior to arrival so we have the correct information for track and trace . All of our check in is now contact free and we do have a Welcome Team based at the entrance of the Park on our main arrival days (Monday and Friday) and have a Security Team Member the other days. I am sorry when you arrived that there was no one there to welcome you. I am pleased that you found the toilet/shower block to be immaculately clean. We have got extra cleaning teams available who clean throughout the day and then the showers are closed between 11am-3pm so a deep clean can be carried out. The Team are working extremely hard so they will be most pleased with your kind comments. Our fishing lakes are well stocked with Carp, Rudd, Perch, Tench and Roach. It is disappointing to hear that your experience at the lakes wasn’t as relaxing as it should be. I will ensure the Sports and Leisure Manager is aware of this. I am sorry that you found it difficult to contact the Reception Team via phone. It has been extremely busy over the past few weeks and the Team are answering as many calls as they can. You are always welcome to come and visit Reception and ask any questions you may have if you are unable to reach us by phone. Kind regards Amy Holiday Experience Team Member

I write this review not just at the orchards but at haven in general and I really hope that some manager somewhere picks it up and has a look .my awful holiday started weeks before even arriving ,swimming sessions go in sale at 11.30 am on a Wednesday I finish work at 5.30 and go on to book me and my kids sessions and all indoor sessions are completely booked for my 4night stay 🤔it confuses me why they allow certain caravans to book up to 8 slots of swimming and leave nothing for other people who are unfortunately working ,surly given a reduced amount and allowing everyone a opportunity would be fairer( andeoffering rest on arrival . I rang haven that evening to discuss the situation only sit on hold for over 45 mins to give up .then rang at 9 am next morning to be greeted by a message saying the staff were training that morning and no calls would be taken ,I gave up at this point out of pure frustration as most people would ,The park it’s self it’s the loudest place I’ve ever been too ,my son even got upset one evening because he was fed up with the constant noise from other people ,bins were completely overflowing for 80% of the time and I payed for stay and play and managed 2outdoor swimming sessions for my money ,the food in the restaurant is awful tand I still have pictures of the raw burger I was served which the chef failed to cook through on 2 occasions so I gave up and shared my daughters dessert he chefs don’t care and don’t listen to the customers requests (soggy undercooked pizza which we strongly requested for it to be on the more well done side )no mixed grill and items missing or the sharing platter also. We’re is the management ,who on Earth is running that kitchen and havens customer service needs serious attention. On the plus side my kids had a great time but that’s because I busted my balls every day taking them off site to make sure they did ,caravan was clean and 90% of staff tried hard (excluding chefs who don’t care)

Just come back from a wonderful 4 night stay at this park. Everyone we met was so friendly, including staff and other visitors. The staff though were brilliant. The fun stars were so enthusiastic and you can tell they can’t wait until the park opens fully so they can entertain the families. I was actually surprised by what was open. We were able to get a meal and a drink outside the Mash and Barrel. Papa Johns was open for takeaways as was Cooks. The security guys were great. Richard saw us sat at the mash and barrel and radioed through to ensure the staff knew we were there. He and Perry made a good team, both really friendly and although we’d never been to the park before it was like talking to old friends. It’s important to have a good security team when you have children with you as it allows you all to feel safe as a family.
Unfortunately due to current restrictions there was no entertainment allowed, however, that didn’t stop the seaside squad making random appearances. The sight of DJ Ned locking Polly and the funstars in the bowling Green started my son laughing which turned into a real belly laugh when Polly chased Ned who was running at full speed to the safety of the site shop. Seriously if the funstars can provide so much joy for the children with all the current restrictions in place I can only marvel at the fun they’ll have when restrictions are released.
As for the accommodation, we were upgraded from a standard to a deluxe van at 64 Lakelands. The van itself was sealed when we arrived and on entering it was spotlessly clean so well done to the cleaners. It was very centrally located which was great for us as our children have restricted mobility. This is one of the reasons we thought we would try the Orchards as it’s a very level site making it quite disabled friendly. Hopefully we will return when restrictions are lifted. Thank you to everyone there for making our short break so enjoyable.

Hi Storyteller677865 Thank you for the review on The Orchards Holiday Village. I am so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay with us. We certainly have had to have lots of changes across the park to enable us to open, We have had to adapt to the new rules in many ways as you could see, even our seaside squad not being able to have planned visits due to crowds forming which is a big change from our normal routine, they now just pop up randomly and we are so pleased it has added to the excitement to your stay as that’s what we are aiming for! Thank you for your lovely comments about Richard and Perry, I will ensure these are passed over to them, comments like this really boost our team. We look forward to getting back to normal whilst we still abide by our government rules and hope to see you back at The Orchards in the very near future. Kindest regards, Shannon Experience Team Member

We have just got back from a long weekend, from pulling up being given a map the lady (jolly chatty pleasant) explained everything, we got to our van took the sticker off got the key, it was lovely and clean. We know after walking & biking we where lucky to be situated where we were as it’s a very large site, but there are car parks you could drive and park in, we wanted some more bedding I went over to the cleaners in another van to ask them if it was possible or where I needed to go they couldn’t of been more helpful it was there within a few minutes. We had booked swimming and the Saturday night entertainment on line, we went to book the Fridays & more swimming get another key all pretty straightforward 3 ladies ( tina was one of them) on there 2 sorting entertainment the other lady extra keys things like that out. I feel you get back what you give, on standing in the que listening I feel very sorry for them there doing a job they have been told from higher above what they can and can’t do give them a break…..fish n chips wasn’t open all wk end so couldn’t try. Pizza was ok mash and barrel average.
We went on the bikes which you have to go to the swimming pool to pay for? Really didn’t understand this as you are clogging up the pool entrance they have to radio though to the bikes all seems a little cackhanded for the sake of another till?
Entertainment of an evening is what it is at a place like this cheese though and though as long as that’s what you expect you’ll be fine.
We used the little shop not to badly priced, we had a broken bracelet we took back the manager was brill couldn’t be more obliging and exchanging it for us. Everyone friendly everywhere clean and tidy some places are a little tired. The amount of staff it must take to run a place that size it unbelievable. After chatting to a few van owners everyone chatty and friendly it would seem haven has been brought out by an American company, so hopefully they will invest some money and spruce it up a little bit.
Over all we had a good few day using both haven and the surrounding area for fun things to do and places to eat.

Second time I’ve visited this month. First time I stayed in an owners caravan and it was fab, lots to do and kids had fun. This time we booked through Haven and we are very near the entertainment which is very loud. Biggest issue has been drunk adults and teenagers, it’s just after midnight and I’ve listened to 3 fights from our caravan so far (apparently Alex is a bully?!) managed to book some swimming sessions which was great but didn’t go into the Live Lounge as the queue to get in had a good 100 people waiting. Safest place other than the caravan is the co op as they count the people going in and offer face masks to those not wearing them. Arcade is a free for all, majority not wearing masks (including the staff). Majority of caravan was clean just a bit of dust here and there but we brought our own cleaning stuff. You get what you pay for but definitely ask if you can be put further away from the entertainment venues if you book to avoid the sound of adults fighting and the smell of weed!

We camped here for two nights in a tent at the end of August with our 3 year old son
The camping facilities were excellent well maintained and super clean Karen and her team do a fantastic job of keeping them clean no matter what time of the day we used them they were always spotless.
It’s a nice friendly relaxed campsite and has several playgrounds we didn’t use the swimming pools but they looked clean.
The only negative I have is the onsite pub is not the best hard to get in to and when you do the food is disappointing.

Arrived as a family of four on Monday 26th July. After a six hour drive we arrived at the touring area and were greeted by a lovely lady called Karen who checked us in. Karen showed us all available pitches and let us choose which was a welcome as normally anywhere else we have been for an electric hook up we were given a pitch. We chose a pitch and started setting up our tent. Please make sure you have an electric hook up length of more than 15m as we had to buy an extension from a nearby store as ours was only 10m. Pitches are very large and more room than stated on the website. We had a 8m by 4m tent plus two porches at an additional 3m each and still had lots of room. The shower blocks have coded entry to stop any messing around or unwanted guests. All were clean and tidy throughout the day but early morning did notice a lack of toilet paper so take a spare. There is a park for the kids near by which is great and a couple of unpitched areas for small ball games. The entertainment is around a ten minute walk which has indoor and outdoor pools although a little on the small side, Papa John's mash and barrel pub and restaurant and a small fish and chip van selling a small menu although it closes roughly around 8pm and sold out of fish numerous times. There is also a very well stocked mini market with everything you need. Pay a visit to the ferry boat in and be surprised when ordering a round of drinks for the price compared to haven. There is also a couple of cafes and an Aladdin cave store that literally is with boxes on boxes of stock. The weather wasn't the best when we were there but that's the UK weather for you. Karen was the stand out perfornmer and always walked around talking to everyone making sure they were enjoying their stay. Keep up the great work Karen. P.S she loves chocolate and bought her a box or roses to show our appreciation. Being the first holiday ever our autistic boy said he didn't want to come home showed what a fab time the kids had. Clacton pier is also a worthy visit about 20 minute drive with lots of shops, cafes and bars. Also a mention to a local pub in St Osyth called the Red lion which is a traditional English pub and restaurant. Serving great food at a reasonable price.

Just returned from The Orchards. Check in was straightforward and the caravan was clean. There are a couple of parks for the kids and some nice walks around the site on the sea wall. That's pretty much the end of the good stuff.
We booked this as a Haven hideaway break on the understanding that the pools etc. were closed but they are now open. As my grandson loves swimming we purchased entertainment passes and were told we could book on the app for swimming or entertainment. We went on the app and found some slots for the pool. The app informed us they were booked but they later disappeared from the app. When I went to reception to complain about the app I was told I was the first person to complain. I find this hard to believe as we spoke to someone else at the pool who had the same issue. In the end we managed to book a couple of swimming sessions by booking directly with the pool. If you go anywhere on site to book anything the first thing you are asked is 'are you an owner'. There is definitely a two tier system at this site with owners being given preference over holidaymakers and it is my belief that staff may be cancelling holidaymakers bookings to fit owners in.
We went to have a look at the entertainment in the live lounge and were told we couldn't come in unless we had booked. We asked if we could just have a look and there were four people in there watching something on a tv screen so we didn't bother to go back. Given the difficulties in booking the pool and the lack of decent entertainment the entertainment passes are definitely a waste of money.
There is a Papa John's on site and we ordered from that for delivery to the caravan and this arrived on time and hot. There is also a fish and chip van which is an absolute rip off. 3.95 for a kids meal of cod bites and chips which had two cod bites and was not even enough for a 2 year old.
In the daytime the site was reasonably quiet but come evening there were large groups of kids hanging around the parks and streets, shouting, swearing and on a couple of occasions we saw large groups picking on other children. As they all seemed to know each other I assume these were owners children who are there regularly. Also, possibly due to the lack of entertainment, people were drinking outside the caravans until the early hours. We found the site very noisy at night.
I can't say whether it is due to the current Covid 19 situation or not but at the moment this site is definitely being run to keep the owners happy. Haven need to remember that holidaymakers are probably paying as much for a week's holiday as owners are paying for a couple of months ground rent and stop treating holidaymakers as second class citizens.

Responded 19 Aug 2020
Hi Sualic182 Thank you for your review of your recent stay with us. I am delighted to hear that you found our new socially distanced check in straight forward and that the caravan was lovely and clean. Our teams are working very hard to ensure the extra cleaning steps are carried out to the highest standards. All new bookings (from 14th may ) are Haven hideaways, where entertainment passes are not included. All three of our pools are now open with restriction in place with regards to meeting government guidelines. As there are limited bather loads, they are primarily for owners and holiday makers who booked before 14th may and have passes included. If we have any spaces left hideaway guests are then welcomed to purchase the passes and use. Due to the current situation we have had to create many new apps and booking systems in a very short period of time and unfortunately there have been some technical issues. I understand that this is a frustrating experience however the team will always try to assist where possible. I can assure you that we are not cancelling any swims session unless we are instructed to by our owners or guests. The owners have their own swimming pool to accommodate them. We would love to offer a full entertainments program but due to restrictions we are currently unable to offer live entertainment. We are hoping with the relaxation of the restriction last week that this is something that may change in the near future and more entertainment would be on offer. Thank you for highlighting your concerns regarding the teenagers you encountered. This has been referred to the Security Team who will be investigating this matter. Despite your current disappointment we hope you choose to return to Haven in the near future. kind regards Kristy Holiday Experience Team
