Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After buying our caravan we were offered 3 nites onsite to test out the caravan etc. We went the last weekend they were open and didn't have any issues with bird mess as suggested in other reviews. Staff were exceptional...Within 5 mins of pitching up we realised we'd lost one of the 2 keys given and had locked the other set in the caravan!! We were given a spare and could set up. We could then open up to get one of our jets, only to lose it later, when we were then setting up with head torches! It was like laurel & hardy!! This was our first caravan and the whole experience could have made for bad memories, but the 3 ladies in the office went the extra mile and helped us so much. Grounds are beautiful, with pretty fishing lakes - perfect for dog walks and a premier store, with bakery opposite 10 mins walk away. As was Black Boy pub where we had good meal the first night. Loo block was clean and although showers were basic with push water, they too were clean. Very good cafe on site too. When we handed in the access card and went to pay for another key, I found the lost one in my purse...been there all the time. Alot of laughs were had. Site effect for us for this trip and staff 5*

Room Tip: If wet, suggest a pitch at top of slope near toilet block. We were in 30, which was fine

Our first visit to 'Homestead Lake Park.' We visited on the 10th August for two nights. It was the first time that we had used our new caravan. We could not have chosen a better place! Very picturesque location, stunning lake and lots of wildlife to see, ducklings were very cute, rabbits and squirrels. We enjoyed observing the ducks and geese wondering around the camp. The downside to the geese and ducks is they leave lots of little presents all over the site. I learnt very quickly, that flip flops are for the feint hearted only and should be avoided at all costs 😃 We observe plenty of people fishing at the pretty lake. The toilets and showers are very clean. Staff and the visitors we met were exceptionally nice and helpful. We tried the cafe, the food is very good and we can highly recommend. We were enjoying our stay immensely, until day two. Unfortunately for us, on day two, a couple arrived with several adorable terrier dogs. I was under the impression that two dogs is fine. Six is just plain greedy 🙂 We adore dogs, we have two of our own. Both came with us when we visited 'Homestead.' The dogs in question were adorable, but the noise coming from pitch 46 was not conducive of a quiet retreat. The noise would put you in mind of visiting a dog kennels. Sadly, this ended up spoiling our overall experience. I feel sorry for anyone unfortunate to be near pitch 46 over the weekend as I feel that their quiet retreat will be spoilt by the constant barking which lasted well into the night. We were at pitch 48, so were a little too close for comfort. We have every intention of visiting 'Homestead'again. Can I suggest that management wonder over to pitch 46 and take control of the situation otherwise other visitors may experience the same.

This is a lovely site but but spoilt as pitches are literally smothered in mess from the resident geese. 6 x poo bags down & our pitch was finally reasonably clear to set up. But it’s everywhere: paths, grass, pitches wherever you walk. Not ideal when you throw kids & puppies in the mix too.

Response from Homestead Lake, Other at Homestead Lake Park
Responded 5 Jul 2023
Thank you for taking time to leave a review. We are sorry that your stay was spoilt by the geese. This year there has been an unprecedented number of geese, we are looking at measures we can take to avoid them settling next year. Unfortunately we cannot reduce numbers this year, but they will start to fly off from middle of July.

As you roll up you might be disappointed as the first impression is a little like a busy industrial or retail estate. However the charming lady in reception pointed us the way, past and at the back of the buildings is a lovely site. Mainly laid to grass, hedging and trees to break up the site but the real star is is the lake offering plenty of views and decent fishing. There's easy access from a good road ( no worrisome country lanes) and yet the the peace and quiet would make you think you are in the middle of nowhere. The noisiest inhabitants are the fearless ducks which will feed off your hand if you have the patience. If you can't be bothered to cook breakfast the cafe does excellent food. And, having already commented on the retail side the accessories shop has a vast range of competitively priced goodies for your outfit. We normally visit adults only sites, here accept children but it might not be ideal for families because of the lake and there are no child play areas. Certainly on our visit it might as well been adult only as there were no children at all. I bagged up at the fishing, my better half sat enjoying the sun and we toured the interesting local area. We seldom return to sites, choosing to experience different places but there's always the exception and there's no doubt we will be booking again. Thank you to everyone at Homestead for a very pleasant stay.

We visited her today for 2 nights to see what it was like, lovely clean site beautiful lake and great clean facilities Sadly late in the afternoon there was 2/3 groups of people with children running around screaming while the adults threw water over them from the hose pipe this was totally unacceptable with the noise and with the wastage of water. We came here hoping for a couple of days of relaxation as we are parents of a disabled child so need some chill time This seems such a shame as all the reviews are excellent and not good for our first visit !!! Maybe we just picked the wrong few days, but think we will stick with our usual adult only sites. ( And yes we do have grandchildren )

We spent Easter weekend here . The site is lovely. Very well maintained. The facilities were kept very clean and the showers were hot. Some of our party used the fishing lake which was lovely. All of the staff whether it was in the shop, Sales office or Reception were lovely they were all friendly and happy to help. We will definitely be returning.

We had to cancel at short notice due to a positive covid test result. There was no refund (not even partial) and no offer of credit. Presumably a decidion based greed, but there is a real risk of spreading this awful disease as many people would go anyway as they would not be prepared to loose money putting other campers at risk. Regards Howard

Response from Homestead Lake, Other at Homestead Lake Park
Responded 14 Apr 2022
Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear of your frustration. Due to the removal of government restrictions, COVID-19 is being treated the same as if you had to cancel for any other reason (e.g. injury’s, illnesses such as Flu). This unfortunately means that no refund is applicable if cancelled within 7 days of arrival. We understand that this is frustrating, and appreciate that you took the time to let us know. We would recommend that customers consider appropriate holiday insurance which would cover such cancellations. Kind Regards Homestead Lake Park

Fishing was brilliant and was lucky with the weather. The little wood is lovely, liked the addition of the very old picnic table. Very disappointed that the facilities were not open. I know we were warned on booking, therefore our choice but the very least it would of been essential to have hand sanitizer available at elsan point and bins. Suggestion maybe add more gravel on the hardstandings....very sparse.

Thank you for your review, we love the little wood too. We made the decision to close the toilet and shower facilities for the 2021 season but our facilities are now fully open again! Thank you for your suggestions, they have been passed onto management.

Arrived, set up the caravan....absolutely brilliant site. No facilities due to covid rules and regulations but not a problem as we have on board facilities. We had fabulous weather. Forecast rain the day we leave. Fishing was excellent too.
