Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Was awful, the bedding and towels smelt like fried food. No one to complain to , reception only manned for few hours . Pub staff chucked over for a while 🙄 Hall lights on til 5am making it impossible to get darkness in room to sleep. Plugs not attached to chain. Sticky window sill. NO pillow protectors. My mum came to see me and left a day early as was so uncomfortable 😣

Had a family meet up here on a Saturday lunch time. Although early for our booking, we were shown to our table straightaway by a friendly staff member. We all opted for carvery although they have a very good menu, of which there were several options we could have easily chosen. The carvery chef was friendly, the food was very good and there was plenty of it. You can choose between small, medium and large plates so you can have as much or as little as you want. The place itself was nice and clean and there was ample parking outside. We booked for 1230 and it was quiet when we got there, but it did get considerably busier over the following hour so bear that in mind. Having said that the staff were very attentive so it didn't look like anyone had to wait long for drinks or food. All of the staff we met were friendly and we will definitely return next time we are in the area.

for the price it is good value half that of premier inn.at reception its not manned and you ring the bell and someone comes over from the resturant to check you in no problem and very pleasant and quick.i must agree with others that the hall carpets could do with a good deep clean but it must be like mission impossible in bad weather as the hotel is used by a lot of tradesmen.our room was clean and well presented apart from a very loose toilet seat.it was apparent that the bed is used for sitting on as it was very dipped but even so quite comfortable.what puzzles me is why when you book a room for two people you only get one chair.this is stupid as people have no choice but use the bed which caused extra wear on the mattress. i did manage to see a man who was checking a guest in and asked him if i could have another chair and he gave me one from the office.the room itself had a nice large desk which could easily fit two chairs under it.we used the smugglers inn resturant which was nice with good food.a cheery waitress and good service. we did go there last year and my only complaint is although clean the tables could do with a good re-furb they are very marked and dont look attractive. and yes i would stay again as it still is value for money.one last thing i know its owned by marston brewery but all the pictures on the walls are of beer barrels and brewery scenes lets have bright nice looking pictures

Visited yesterday with 2 other friends. Sam served us and was attentive when we needed her, professional and polite. Great asset to Marstons. Food was lovely and hot. We were given time between courses to chat which was lovely and great not to be rushed.

We booked a table for two on Xmas day at 2pm to which we arrived on time. My husband ordered prawn cocktail for starters only for it to arrive on a PLATE. Our main meal was awful and arrived cold and burnt with hard veggies. The cheese board was served on a PLATE. When is a cheese board served on a plate? We also needed to serve ourselves when we were under the impression it would be table service as it was Xmas day. Suffice to say, we were extremely disappointed and let down. It ruined our Xmas day. The staff and management were unapologetic and couldn't care less do not waste your time or money with this place . I would give a zero star rating if there was the chance. We didn't even get an apology or a reply from my email.

I have visited this hotel on several occasions whilst visiting friends in the area. Generally, the accommodation is excellent for the price. Staff (when they are on duty) are very friendly and helpful. As a person with physical disabilities, it is handy to have an accessible room (I can't manage their baths - and, yes, I have tried). Unfortunately there are only two accessible rooms, which can be booked up quickly, so a couple more would be useful. The rooms are comfortable and clean, but basic. The ones I have stayed in could do with a spruce-up. Having stayed there so often, I have a few niggles that irritate me every time. 1. The bed is very close to the wall - I have to sleep on the right-hand-side of the bed and have to walk like a crab to get into bed! 2. There is no shelf in the bathroom, on which to place toiletries. 3. There is no lid on the toilet, so nowhere dry to sit and towel-dry (important when using a wet-room) 4. The bathroom is cold. As someone who is badly affected by cold, the lack of bathroom heating is a problem. The shower seat is very difficult to unfold. Perhaps due to it being regularly soaked (and only using one hand), I have never yet managed to use it. Food-wise, I can only speak for the breakfasts. Generally, they are good, but it seems to depend on who is cooking that day, and I really didn't appreciate the coffee machine not working on my last visit!

Not dear. Not cheap. Yet ? Something is missing. The accommodation is extremely sparse & utilitarian more like cell blocks. These sort of rooms that house travellers are fit for one or two nights sleep, nothing more. Staff are friendly enough though, then disappear ! & so do my recommendations.
