I am shocked that in this time of crisis there are business's out there who are happy to profit (despite incurring no costs to themselves) out of the misfortune of others. We were recently stranded in India due to the lockdown but eventually managed to secure repatriation flights in to the Stansted Airport (original flights were to Heathrow and then onwards to Inverness) at short notice. This meant a long flight followed by car hire and a ten hour drive home so at the last minute we decided to book here through Booking.com. We should have arrived at 7pm but there were three flight delays which I communicated to the Guest House. The final delay meant that we didn't get through arrivals until after 6am so we were unable to use the room. There were still rooms available so the Guest House wasn't full and they didn't even respond to my final message but simply marked the booking as cancelled which closed the message option down on Booking.com. The information from Booking.com was that the cost of the booking was £0 so I was very surprised when the credit card bill arrived and I had been charged directly by Harwood House. I contacted them to query this and his excuse was that he woke every hour through the night to see if the door had gone which is simply not true as the last message he sent me was to say to phone when we arrived and he would wake up and let us in. I wouldn't encourage anyone to use any business who decides to take advantage out of the current crisis to profiteer despite incurring no costs themselves so effectively taking money for nothing whilst showing not one ounce of empathy. I certainly would say to anyone to think twice about booking to stay here in the future due to their complete lack of business morals. There are so many other businesses out there who have rallied round to show true business morals in these tough times so I would suggest you give them your business instead.…
I stayed here for 4 weeks while working in Braintree which is about 15 minutes away. Nicola and Tom are great hosts, the rooms are spotlessly clean, a nice size and as another post has said, the beds are very comfortable. I slept very well while I stayed here. There is a Tesco in walking distance and an Indian restaurant opposite that was very nice. There is ample parking on a private drive outside. I cannot comment on the breakfast as I was always out early and stayed on a room only basis, but it always smelled really nice as I left in each morning as I left. I would have no hesitation in recommending here to stay, it is a far better option than some of the national chain hotels in the area and competitively priced. Many thanks to Nicola and Tom Regards Gareth
Stayed here in February 2020 overnight on my 70th Birthday with my wife. The beds are so comfy I'd like to take one home. The breakfast was to die for with the best crispy bacon ever. The hosts are very young, delightfully so and nothing is too much trouble for them. There is a bonus across the road where you will find a lovely welcoming pub and Indian restaurant. Thanks Tom and Nicole.
This was our first visit at Harwood house . A great find for staying before our flight . Nicola and Tom are very friendly and helpful. Very comfortable room and a great breakfast, best mushrooms I’ve very had . The transport to airport and pick was great . Looking forward next year visit and would recommend this place.
Excellent overnight stay before an early morning flight in welcoming and very comfortable surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble, expert airport transfers and good parking, would definitely go again
