Lovely, clean, friendly and fresh! This is a Super gem of a guest house! We arrived early and were advised where to park. We were offered the parking at £6 per day which was a good deal as we just parked up and were within walking distance of all the amenities .Our room was clean, fresh, beautifully decorated and finished to a high standard. It was on the very top floor ( which is quite a lot of stairs !) and there was a lovely sea view. The breakfast was made to order with the freshest ingredients and service in the tea room at breakfast was without fault , very efficient and friendly girl ( didn’t get her name, Monday 18 th morning!) The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the linen was lovely and crisp! Well done team gleneagles, this was our first ever visit to Southend and we would definitely come back to stay with you again.…
Lovely weekend at Gleneagles. Very friendly welcome and help with parking which is available in bays nearby. We stayed in the Pier Suite. V clean and lovely bed linen. It has the most fabulous view. Breakfast very good with lovely welcome and service. Thank you!
Super guest house! We were met by the lovely Penny who was very helpful and organised our car parking without fuss. Our room was clean, fresh, beautifully decorated with some lovely original furniture and we had a great view of Queen Victoria, too! Afternoon tea was made to order with the freshest ingredients and breakfast was no different. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the linen was lovely and crisp! Well done team gleneagles, our first ever visit to Southend and we wanted to stay for the rest of the week!
Booked this guest house due to visiting the cliffs pavilion last night, fabulous clean room. Friendly owner named penny , lovely cute suite overlooking the sea, great breakfast this morning nothing to much trouble. Would for sure visit again. Thank you
It’s taken us a while to write this review but we wanted to say a very very special thank you to Garry and Penny for everything they did for us on our wedding day. They hosted our wedding reception in July 2021 at the end of the lockdown and we couldn’t have asked for a more amazing day. The room, the Estuary Suite was absolutely beautiful, it was perfect, it’s split between a living area and a bedroom and there’s an amazing view over the Sea. We were looking for an independent, family run guest house with a personal touch, and we couldn’t have asked for more, the quality of the furnishings and decor is of the highest quality. It was all beautiful. Penny and Garry and all of their team were exemplary and that made our wedding the most special day. The staff were amazing and decorated the beautiful patio area and the restaurant. Our children could run around outside in the sunshine all afternoon without a care in the world. The buffet was amazing and our room was absolutely perfect, spotlessly clean and had so much character. It’s a perfect spot. My mum stayed downstairs in a double room overlooking the estuary and being a native German even she was blown away. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic and all the staff couldn’t have done more to make our stay really special. We came back today for my birthday and stayed in the same room and it’s still absolutely perfect. Thank you so much to Penny and Garry and all the amazing Gleneagles team.…
So disappointed with this stay. Guesthouse tired and really needs some love. Our room was in the attic, a massive 55 step climb, and tiny. A lovely view out of the window, but this paled when dealing with zero storage space, a solid bed, tiny TV and a cigarette burned bedspread. Worst of all was the en-suite, with an ill-fitting sliding door that left a good inch gap on either side, affording the user absolutely no privacy whatsoever. This really doesn't work for me - my husband had to stand on the landing every time I used the bathroom. There's no excuse; a sliding door should fit as well as a traditional door if not done cheaply, and fitted professionally. The shower is so tiny it is barely usable; a small, cheap shelf would really help, for shower gel and shampoo, as there's very little room to keep bending down a retrieving these items. We did ask to move rooms, but the only alternative had the same set up, so pointless. The cooked breakfast on the first day was good, the poached eggs on the second day were barely edible. On the plus side, all staff encountered were very friendly. The guesthouse is for sale, which might explain the lacklustre stay. Its a real shame, with some love (and some money!), it could be lovely. …
Great location in Westcliff - close to seafront and tow centre with gardens in front. We had a sea view suite which was fine but carpets needed a good clean and a few details attention (more soap/shampoo in bathroom, wifi only 2 bars, slight small from drains). Breakfast was average - service speedy and pleasant.
Visited for quick getaway. Although the establishment was clean it had heavy musty smell. The breakfast was poor. The cereals were stale, juice was cheap supermarket grade. I had the fried eggs but couldn’t eat them. They were overdone and the oil they were cooked in smelled old. The staff were lovely and friendly but I couldn’t recommend this establishment.
We visited the tearoom only (not the guesthouse). We didn’t have a booking but luckily the staff found an extra table and 2 chairs so we could sit outside on the patio. It was lovely and peaceful sitting there. We ordered two salads for lunch and they were presented beautifully. Generous portions of ham and different cheeses. The cakes looked delicious and we can’t wait to go back for afternoon tea next time.
We had an amazing 2 nights at this lovely little guest house. Perfect location for exploring and sea views are great from the front. It is in a quiet location but only a 5 mins walk from the centre. Unfortunately the tea rooms were not open when we visited but there is so much choice you can eat anywhere. The room was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. We were really pleased with the breakfast offered and there was plenty of choice. We would recommend and if we return to Southend would not hesitate to stay again.
