Stayed here on a mountain bike trip with a friend and it was more than I could have asked for! Pete and Jane were extremely accommodating from the minute we arrived, offering up refreshments and showing us around the B&B. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and breakfast was more than enough to last us a few hours on the bikes on the morning. Both hosts were extremely welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would recommend to anyone visiting the local area!

Stayed at this bed and breakfast whilst on a walking trip. Some aspects are ok ie cleanliness; convenience. However the hosts really let this place down as mentioned in other reviews. Everything is so strict and regimented it’s hard to relax, not welcoming at all! I found the one host somewhat abrupt and rude too. Breakfast was OK, small portions and had to be chosen the night before. Bed not very comfy. All in all just far better options available in the area. Please note also how the host responds to criticism on reviews… very unprofessional and childish! Enough to put anybody off!

The b&b was more than we expected . A very comfortable and clean room. The hosts could not have been more welcoming and helpful, printing off guides for us tailored to our needs etc, but weren’t “in your face” Breakfast was great and the honesty bar was a welcome bonus as was the lounge. I would highly recommend .

Very clean. Delicious lemon drizzle cake. But why was the owner so militaristic with us all? The lack of any warmth and being treated like a school child ruined my visit. We were a group walking Offa’s Dyke. I felt he wanted us gone as soon as we arrived!

Thanks you for your review, it think its worth putting some perspective around your visiti to us for 1 night by your group. As you have pointed out we offered complimentary Tea and Cake on arrival as a welcoming part to your group. In fairness to us we were already on the back foot when you arrived due to the issues surrounding your taxis and the reoccurring issues the following day for your group I believe you were in Room 2 a twin. Your colleagues in Room 3 were booked in with a private bathroom, both of you mentioned this at the time that you thought this wasn’t right. The rooms are booked by Absolute Escapes on-line and they have the full criteria of our rooms at their disposal, we even had a conversation with them about room allocation and facilities and they confirmed all OK. “Never judge a book by its cover” For your information, the other rooms were booked out to other customers coming later-on in the evening but eventually cancelled so we couldn’t let these out. Absolute Escapes do not give us a leniency towards moving guest to different rooms or up grading and therefore we are not prepared to offer rooms at higher cost without knowing where payment is likely to come from. After you had arrived, we emailed Absolute Escapes as a courtesy to advise them of you concerns. We try to run though with large parties as much as we can our facilities, timings, breakfast etc- we were conscious that your booking at the Fountain was at 7pm and it was 6:15 pm when the ladies arrived. Breakfast was served as quickly as we could , again it’s down to time constraints with regards to Taxis that were booked, I believe it was 9am – we even tried to help in respect of Taxis in the morning but there is little we can do knowing not only the poor taxi situation in the Forest but also your arrangements with Absolute Escapes. It might be wise in the future to ensure with any third-party booking agent that you provide them with stringent criteria about the rooms and the configurations you want. At the time of Absolute Escapes booking, they could have booked the other rooms which were superior and therefore more expensive. I can’t comment as to the budget they were working to or what you had advised them. It might be worth considering more time around stop overs and picking up the trail? We are always mindful that we are working to as strict timescale with walking groups ( booked through touring companies) and therefore work extremely hard to ensure that you don’t receive any delays due to us. We wish you all the best and happy walking! Peter and Jane

Stayed for two nights and whilst the house was clean and bed was comfortable, I feel that the owners were not that friendly, more businesslike, and everything was too regimented. I am not keen on establishments where you have to tick boxes to order breakfast the night before, preferring to choose from a menu at the table. Whatever was ordered seemed to be strictly timed and rationed e.g one small glass of orange juice, with no more offered. The owners seemed to be reluctant and in too much of a rush to engage in conversation and not once was I addressed by my first name or surname. Some of the information in the bedroom guide was out of date and there were generally out of date brochures on display.

Thank you for taking the time in doing us a review. We are sorry your experience at Edale House B&B was not to your expectations. If I recall you visited us the day before to book with us 2 nights as you were already in the Forest, We could only show you the public areas as we were full, but advised you of our facilities, the ability to view on-line our rooms and advised of pre-order breakfast (at the time no comment was made) but you will now find is very common amongst a lot of B&Bs. On Arrival we offered you complimentary tea in our guest lounge and advised on some places to eat, walk and sights to see including the steam train etc. We offered a choice of breakfast timings to suite your needs and everything we provide is freshly cooked and table served, we always ask guests if they would like more toast, coffee/ tea or anything else, there is plenty of opportunity to have further glasses of juice if requested. We no longer do buffet as it creates congestion in our small breakfast room and communal food bowls to help yourself are not generally acceptable after Covid. During your stay we had several chats with you about the local area, restaurants including those in the Village that are within walking distance, sites to see etc, some of which you had already been too, we were conscious of the use of your stick and felt we guided you to places that were more accessible. My wife even came out to you (on your request) to show you, our dog. (again, conscious of your stick) and on departure, as with all our guest, we asked if you enjoyed your stay with us, where you were going for the day, in fact we even reminded you not to forget your stick! We are a busy small family run B&B / private home which is owner managed which sometimes doesn’t allow us the time we would like to spend with our customers, however in the main are guests are keen to enjoy the forest and visit the sites and have a quick chat as an when we see them or in the morning at Breakfast. We greet all our customer with their surnames unless we are told differently, it is not polite in our view, to assume we can use 1st names at the outset of your visit. The guest information folder is up to date and whilst references are made to Covid (it’s still out there!) these are there to provide comfort to our more senior guests and ensure that they are aware we have a process in place. The brochure stand is updated as and when activity/ leisure companies provide us with up-to-date material, I suspect that many companies have not up dated their own leaflets based on cost, the content within the brochures remains basically unchanged. Can I take this opportunity to add the following, we provide a well-furnished comfortable room with several additional benefits including a range of soaps and lotions for YOUR use. I would recommend that Hotel accommodation might be more suitable on your next visit to the forest where there might be more staff at your disposal. We wish you safe travels across the UK - Peter and Jane

Edale House is a beautiful B&B overlooking the village green in Parkend in the Forest of Dean. There's one pub next door and another just across the green, so it's a perfect location for staying and eating - and it's also centrally located in the Forest of Dean. Pete and Jane are wonderful hosts: they have got running a B&B down to a science and have literally thought of everything. Pot of tea on arrival, scrupulously clean and well-equipped rooms, wide array of selections for breakfast (and all the ones we chose were excellent), great advice on where to eat and what to do. I couldn't recommend Edale House more highly. If you're going to the Forest of Dean, stay here!

A wonderfully warm welcome from our hosts made this a very pleasant start to the weekend. We were very well looked after. Clean, comfortable room and facilities throughout the stay. Off road parking available. Great breakfast menu with quality and locally sourced food. The B and B is ideally situated for exploring the many local attractions and activities. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this B and B.

After struggling what to get my husband for his birthday I decided on a weekend away which would include a R.S.P.B as we both enjoy visiting them. After searching on Google I found Edale Vale b&b in the lovley Forest of Dean with R.S.P.B on the doorstep.. Anyway we arrived to a warm welcome from the owners Peter & Jane . Peter led us to the lounge and made us a much needed cup of tea and explained how to order breakfast for the next day and about the bar where you can help yourself and just write what you had and your rm number o n a pad they leave in the bar . He also gave some leaflets of places to visit and list of places to eat . We decided to eat next door a pub called the woodsman which was good they do nice fish n chips very much recommended . The next morning we had really good cooked breakfast to set us up for the day . That evening we decided to go a place called Lyndy a biggish town not to far away and found a nice Thai restaurant called NG THAI FOOD very much recommended it . As for the b& b it's the bedroom was very nice decorated and comfortable and a nice view to and I really took a liking to the photos of the local places they really good . So I like to say thank Peter and Jane for a enjoyable stay and we definitely like to come back as we found much more to do and see the forest of Dean .
