My husband and I spent 5 days/4 nights here in early March 2020. We were a little apprehensive as sometimes hotels used as part of a package such as ours are not very good. We need not have worried! We had the best holiday we have had in a long time. The hotel was great - the room was large, clean and well equipped. The hotel staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Although all the staff were great, special mention must go to Courteney and to David. The food was excellent, and I did actually speak with the chefs to tell them so. Again, on a package deal the food can be mediocre. Not so here. The breakfasts (self service) were great - everything was hot and fresh - and the dinners in the evening were superb. There was a good choice for each of the courses and there was something for everyone's preference (carnivores, vegetarian, gluten free). We could not fault a thing. Thanks for a wonderful stay and we will definitely see you again!!

We had a lovely weekend break here and cant wait to come back in the summer. The staff are great, nothing is too much trouble they even carried our bags for us. The food is great and lots of it, my wife insisted I only had 2 sausages on the last morning as I struggled to do up my trousers- whoops! I have to say that the entertainment was outstanding especially Simon on saturday evening wow this young fellas repertoire is unbelievable and such an amazing voice. The hotel is on a main road but over the wifes snoring I heard nothing at all so business as usual there then. Look forward to seeing you all soon, Mr H

Shearings Bay Hotel, typical Shearings hotel, but a cut above the rest. Our second visit, friendly staff, look out for Victoria on reception nothing to much trouble. excellent food & the Cheese & Biscuits with proper Wiltshire Mature Cheder, very tasty. We stayed at the Bay Prince of Wales last weekend on a Shearings self drive 'Weekend plus' break. Have to say it was great. All the staff members were very friendly and helpful, the room was excellent, and for what we'd paid the food was also very good. Although the hotel sits adjacent to the main road, we had no problems with traffic noise, indeed the position is perfect for exploring the local villages and attractions. Would definitely return some day. Give it a try!

Stayed here prior to an early morning meeting in Bristol. Arrived late (10pm) And was greeted friendly at reception. The hotel has s large pub attached to it and the live music coming from the bar was loud but acceptable. Rooms are dated and “functional” could do with renovation and modernisation. Free WiFi only available in reception, bar and hallways. Everything worked so not really anything to complain about. Didn’t eat in hotel in the evening but the buffet style breakfast was tasty and hot. Seems popular with older crowd from the numerous pensioners at breakfast.

Looks on arrival in need of a paint facelift but once inside, oldie world and cosy. Great efficient book in at reception. Food excellent. Room very warm, loads of hot water and very quiet. Self drive with Breakaways UK. Only downside, we were given voucher for 4 free drinks each to be used on Saturday only. My wife only has drinks without sweeteners, so only option was coke, but was charged 50p. Considering a pint of tetley was £3.90 seems a bit off to charge 50p on top of the "Free drink" voucher. when challenged told that it was management rule.

Thank you for your review, so pleased you enjoyed your stay, sorry about the issue regarding the all inclusive drinks it does seem odd that you had to be charged but unfortunately its the way the tills are set up by head office and not a management rule and should have been explained better by my staff. Just coming to the end of a wonderful stay at the hotel prince of wales in berkeley. Staff were very helpful and welcoming. Rooms were really nicely done. Food was excellent for the price Will definately come again. If your looking for 5 star hotel then book a 5 star hotel. If your looking for a really good mid week cheap break, this is it. At £99.00 for 4 nights half board, You wont get any better than this. I have been to lots of shearings hotels and this is by far the best yet,for accommodation and food. The only drawback is the location on the busy A38. But that also means good links to surrounding places if interest.
