Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The indulgence package seemed good value for money as it included prosecco and 3 course dinner for 2 for +47gbp. The suite however was very tired and would easily fail any white glove test, having dust on every available surface. Cracked shower and floor tiles, grime in shower, door hanging off sink unit and damaged desk and coffee table completed the sorry picture. However, bed was comfortable and large TV also handy. Plenty of space and nice chairs. Rickety stairwell for access. The dinner was a shade devoid of choice (top tip: Sundays is a bit of a pub menu with fairly limited choices). Breakfast also a bit hit and miss with self serve toast area and only one kind of pastry on view. My sausage was burnt one side and pink on the other. Bacon also underdone. Poached eggs were great. There was no table check during breakfast, although the server did busy herself around us setting up lunch tables. A service charge was automatically added to the dinner when we bought a bottle of wine, meaning the cheapest bottle of red set us back £38. I am sure it was all simpler in Tudor times. And when I thanked the receptionist she replied no worries which is honestly one of my pet hates. You're welcome.

We recently hosted my Father's Wake at the White Horse and I can only describe the entire experience as exceptional. From initial contact with the venue, the staff went above and beyond to make sure that everything ran smoothly and they were incredibly accommodating of all of our requests. The buffet that we ordered was served on time and the food was excellent and there was plenty of it. All of our guests commented on how nice it was. The Duty Manager who looked after us was outstanding. He was helpful, professional and discrete (sorry I can't remember his name as it was a bit of a difficult day). Thank you for making a really awful day run as smoothly as possible. We really are grateful.

The beef burger was nothing like real meat and enormously disappointing - it was meant to be a treat for a friend and she ended up leaving most of her meal. It’s a pleasant venue but sadly I could not recommend the food . The hotel is advertised as sourcing local produce -where from I have to wonder ?

This is an old property with lots of character. The staircase is particularly interesting, as warned by the lovely receptionist on our arrival, the treads are very uneven and can be a bit tricky to negotiate if you are a little unsteady on your feet. However, the main problem for us was the lack of on site parking. We were staying as wedding guests, and the inclement weather meant we were walking to and from the public car park, in our wedding attire in the rain and wind. The bathroom was small and lighting in the room was also not very good for applying make up. Nevertheless, it was a quaint building and location and the hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff very friendly and attentive.

Very smart hotel in the centre of Romsey, steeped in history. Rooms are clean, tidy and could not be faulted. Drinks and food on the higher scale (we didn't eat here, but visited the bar and looked at the restaurant menu). £16 for two G&Ts. Despite the food and drink costs, we'd definitely return to the hotel.

I've stayed on business a number of times and always find the hotel to be a nice place to stay. The rooms aren't huge but they are well appointed, clean, and comfortable. I haven't used the restaurant so I can't comment on the standard of the food but when I did look at the evening menu it seemed to quite limited. I am told however, that the breakfasts are very good. The hotel is in a very central location and although it doesn't have its own carpark, there is a public car park right behind the hotel which is free of charge from 1600 to 0830 so parking overnight isn't a problem.

I recently spent a lovely couple of days at this hotel. As we had our dog with us we dined here also. The staff are really friendly and helpful and work very hard . Heather on reception went above and beyond to ensure all was well. Even posting back our phone charger. Sussana was lovely too. Richard and Felicity were really good in the bar area where we ate. Breakfast was hot and delicious with all the usual choices . Dinner menu isn’t extensive and maybe would benefit from some classics like cottage pie etc but I had blade of beef which was yummy. The rooms are decorated beautifully and goid quality towels and toiletries are in the bathroom. Even a dog bowl and small mat are provided plus dog treat.

So easy to stay here and right in the centre of Romsey. Romsey has a really good selection of shops and restaurants. The White horse hotel sends you interesting information about the area before you arrive to help you plan your trip. Beds were very comfortable. Staff were efficient and very friendly.
