Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Recently have been here which I have been here serval times. We had a girly family day book in, spa treatments and afternoon tea. We had an amazing afternoon with treatments and using the pool etc, couldn’t fault the team in the spa at all. However…… we had afternoon tea booked for 4pm. We sat down ready at 3:50, our afternoon tea eventually arrived at 16:35. On the menus was chicken ceaser wraps, ham mini loaf and a veggie option in a roll. We didn’t get wraps we got white bread, and the other 2 rolls were rock solid, couldn’t even bite into them. We explained this to one of the servers and she took them away and we was told they would bring us fresh ones. They finally brought out fresh ones but all on white bread this time and was made very messy. We could see a couple the other side of the restaurant who had wraps and rolls so we couldn’t understand why we didn’t. Then as one of my family members went to get one of the cakes she saw a white hair on it!! We then all checked ours and I also found a white hair on the top of one of ours too!!! We called someone over he said his name was Scott and he was the bar manager. We explained everything to him and how we wasn’t happy and we wouldn’t be eating anything as we’ve been put off by the hairs. He said he’d go talk to someone and came back. At this point he had apologised for any of this. He came back and said ‘ I understand the food has been replaced’ we agreed and said but also the the hair in the food and he replied ‘ that’s a separate issues I’ll deal with that later, also it’s strange as our chef is bold’ 😳 again no apology. He was very rude, didn’t apologise and didn’t offer us anything. We said about a complimentary drink he again went away came back and said I can do that for you, but be time he came back it was getting late, we were all hungry and just wanted to leave. We asked if we could have a partial refund as it wasn’t a cheap day out and he said I’ll have to talk to the spa department and tried to walk away. I asked when we would hear back and if we were to wait and he said no it will be done in an email. Me and my family have been here serval times so we know the standards they normally set. As I stated we couldn’t fault the spa. Unfortunately what was such a lovely day ended on a low and us all feeling very disappointed. Scott definitely needs more training on how to deal with customers and work on his customer service skill. What a shame.

The wife wanted to get away for the night so quickly booked this. Easy check in , got to the room and it was lovely , clean and fresh. Tea/coffee making facilities , hairdryer , iron and board, body wash etc. People moaning on here about stains in carpet. The carpets look as good as new except for a few stains but that's not the hotels fault.... Are they really going to replace the carpets EVERY time a stain is left by a customer ? No. Does it ruin your experience at the hotel ? No. Overall a lovely room with all you need.

I absolutely love this hotel , I stay regularly with friends , family and don’t think you can better for the price and facilities offered . It has a homely feel and lovely ambiance about it . I booked a signature room on the bed dinner and breakfast rate . I work for the NHS so got discount too and I think for what you get it’s superb value for money . My room was clean , tastefully decorated and spacious. The bed and pillows were so comfy and I had a wonderful night sleep . I love the fresh milk and water in the corridors you can help yourself too . Genius idea! I ordered room service for dinner and the food arrived quickly with everything I asked for . The pool was very busy , noisy and full of kids splashing around so i didn’t stay long . There was no where to sit and jacuzzi full . I feel the steam room needs attending too . It looks worn and run down with holes in the ceiling and a cover missing from the steam element. Breakfast was excellent with lots of selection and prompt service . Judith served me and was friendly and efficient. The other thing that would be helpful would be instructions on how to use the coffee machine in the rooms and what the different coloured coffee pods were . I had to ask a member of housekeeping how to use it , Perhaps my room 122 was missing this information ? Overall this hotel offers great value for money in an upmarket setting . You get a lot for your money and the staff I encountered were all helpful and friendly . I feel refreshed after my stay and will be back very soon .

I was there with my husband and little boy for a couple of days (Easter Term). We checked in at 9.00 pm and asked for restaurant. The receptionist said she was not sure about the kitchen opening time and suggested to go and ask for that. When we went there, they told us the kitchen would have closed soon and they couldn't receive guests after 9.15 pm. We tried to order the dinner from the room but the menu offered very limited choice and was not clear. The available food was from section "24 hours" and included soups, sandwich, salads but when we called the reception to order they said " just sandwiches" are available. I was desperate after travelling two hours and with a very hungry little boy ( 3 years old). No dinner that night. In order to focus on something different we went to the swimming pool, the guy told us children can go to the pool from 3.00 to 7.00 pm so no chance to swim and keep busy my little one. Next day we went to the pool at 6.00 pm and the lady told us that our card ( the room card) was a different one and it didn't include the swimming pool. She asked us to go to the reception and clarify the situation as she couldn't assist us. We went to the reception and we discovered that we booked and paid for the room but it didn't include the pool. They asked us to pay £30 to use the pool from 6.15 to 7.00 pm. We were very disappointed and we left. When we booked we used filters and we selected " parking" and "swimming pool" among the filters. WHY SOLENT Hotel CAME UP AS A CHOICE IF THE SWIMMING POOL WAS NOT INCLUDED? We paid £290 for two nights and we were very disappointed. Please don't book this hotel if you wish to have the pool as a facility OR try to contact the reception before booking to make sure your booking include the pool!!!

Stayed for one night after attending a function at the hotel. All areas of the hotel are modern. We stayed in a large double which had very modern fittings. The bathroom had a bath and shower( you couldn’t stand up to have a shower due to a sloped ceiling but not a problem unless you have dodgy knees!). The bed was a bit hard but still comfortable enough and there are additional pillows available if needed. Room was very quiet. We did not try the on site spa but is obviously very popular. Breakfast was good with a separate gluten free menu. All staff throughout were friendly and courteous. Would definitely stay again.

Had a wonderful breakfast with the family on Saturday. Was quite a busy morning in the restaurant and the staff were rushed off their feet. We were looked after by the lovely Louise who went above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely breakfast and that everything was tip top! Would highly recommend and am very pleased with the lovely service we received.

Went for drinks with my partner and friends and was bombarded with fruit flies then also saw silver fish coming out from the skirting boards, not what I would expect from a 4* hotel. Don't think I would go back. Give this one a wide berth .........

Deliberated about giving this hotel five stars. Lots of pros; great staff, huge room (not sure if we were upgraded or not), excellent spa area, great facilities in room and massive car park. There were a few cons though which is why I settled on four stars in the end. Hotel generally and rooms are a bit tired and dated. I can't imagine how much it must cost to refurbish a place like that but it does need it. WiFi is quite poor. Shower was lethal to get out of and could have done with an extra handle, or better still, just replace bath with a walk-in shower. Who has baths in hotels anyway?!! But overall it was a great stay and we really loved the spa area. If ever we were coming this way again, we'd definitely choose this hotel for our stay.

Dear Ray, Thank you for your review and taking the time out to leave the hotel some feedback. We are sorry to read your overall rating of the hotel is not a 5 star review. However, your comments and feedback will be shared with the relevant areas. We do have plans for the future to refurbish areas as mentioned in your review. Lovely spa morning, great value. Lovely food and the relaxation room was so nice. The changing rooms are smart and the spa area is nicely decorated. The only criticism would be the pool room needs some TLC. The lounger cushions are stained and could do with being replaced.
