Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at Petherton Cottage in the Rhinefield room for 4 nights in mid February and were very impressed with the spacious room and overall cleanliness. We had our own entrance door, en suite with bath and a small kitchenette with fridge/freezer microwave and cutlery etc. Denise and Paul were very friendly and hospitable. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. The B&B is also ideally situated for visiting attractions in Hampshire and Dorset. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are already planning on returning in October this year.

We recently stayed for a few days, self catering in Bolderwood Suite, which is perfectly comfortable, and very suitable for two people. The standard of cleanliness is superb. The optional breakfasts, delivered to the door, are good value for money, dietary requirements taken into account, and a varied list of items to pick each day. Generally, attention to detail is evident in order to make guests feel welcome and special.

My girlfriend and I stayed here last night as part of a trip down to the New Forest and had a lovely stay. It was all made up by a lovely room, a nice en suite bathroom (cracking shower), a delicious breakfast and some very personable service from Marcus and his team. Another nice touch was the smart TV meaning we could catch up on Netlfix! The B&B is located just off the A31 within a five minute drive to the New Forest and a fifteen minute drive to Bournemouth beach. We went into Ringwood for dinner which was just a £7 taxi ride so the location was great We'll be back soon!

We absolutely loved our stay at Petherton Cottage, the room was so clean and cosy but also had plenty of space. The room was extremely well equipped with lots of kitchen supplies and everything we could possibly need. The organisation was so clear which meant the whole experience felt relaxing, we wish we had booked more than one night here!

Keeping it simple - Petherton Cottage had everything we needed for our one night stay. Parking, very clean, plenty off free to use items, a fridge, a generally safe place to be (we have a young child), very helpful staff (thanks Marcus) and we were able to store some items whilst we were at Moors Valley even though we had checked out.... much appreciated. The only downside was the thin walls so the TV from next door was very loud (may be activate the hotel mode on the TV and put in a volume limit - if the TV has that function). It's worth adding - earplugs were supplied by the owners but some do not like to wear them, But overall very happy and would use again.

Excellent stay and very well set up to meet all the new regulations. The couple running this place are awesome and they make everyone feel super welcome - the extra bananas for hungry baby were especially appreciated. Beds were very comfy, pillow top mattress (same as we have at home) and the breakfast was unbelievable - fresh warm selection of different croissants, cereal, yoghurts and juice...

Fortunately we only stayed for one night en route to Dorset. Although superficially the accommodation looked clean it was very dated and shoddy. There were multiple chips in both the paintwork and flooring and everything had clearly been done on the cheap with an extremely poor standard of work to fixtures and fittings, especially in the kitchenette area where the window ledge was also very dirty. Some of the electrical sockets were extension leads attached to the wall! There was a persistent hum coming from a cabinet in the kitchen which was very annoying and needed ear plugs at night to deaden the sound. The shower traps were filthy and clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time. There was no sink plug in the main bedroom en suite sink which exposed a disgusting view down the very dirty plug hole. Toilet hinges were rusty on one of the toilets. All in all this was a disappointing place to stay and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it and would have hated to have been staying for any longer.

Our first stay at Petherton Cottage.
Arrived Valentines Day, a big warm welcome from Denise.
The room was spacious, spotlessly clean and very well equipped.
A nice big, easy to use television, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, freezer. Good choice of mugs, cups, and glasses.
We loved the extra special Valentines touch as a couple of small bottles of bubbly and Champagne flutes were left on our table with a heart shaped mat and some heart shaped chocolates, and if that wasn’t enough the bed was sprinkled with heart shaped petals and even more chocolates!
I must mention the breakfasts as the Full English is a must.
Quality locally sourced sausage, bacon and egg served to a pre requested time along with all the other ingredients..10/10
We will return, so that says it all....

The excellent ratings matched our stay at Petherton cottage.

It’s easy to get to and fantastically situated to make the most of the area. The rooms were very comfy and the recent changes needed for distancing have been finished really well.

The hosts made excellent recommendations to the local areas for exploring and relaxing. Great assortment of local beers and wines with just the right amount of bubbles for a sparkling weekend or week away!

Thanks for a wonderful stay

This very pretty cottage was our home for 2 nights. Its spotlessly clean and comfortable, with little touches making it special. Breakfasts delivered in the morning at the arranged time with fresh fruit, hot croissants and rolls, jam, cereals and yoghurt.
Would absolutely recommend staying here.
Thank you for a great weekend
