This is great town pub serving Thai Food. The welcome is friendly and the staff are great. Alan and his wife Lynn look after the place when the managers aren’t there. Full of locals and tourists alike. The beer is always in tip top condition. They have rooms as well!! Give it a try, the top bar is very atmospheric.

We tried the Star Inn because the Thai food came highly recommended. It was indeed very good, with my personal rider being that my chicken Pad Thai was delicious but I was disappointed to find it contained quite a bit of chicken skin, which is to some people’s taste but not mine. Service was good. Very pleasant staff. A very popular place with a very nice atmosphere.

Hi Lynn, Thank you so much for your kind review. We don’t buy in chicken breasts with skin on, so I think the bits you may be referring to would be egg. If you come again please let us know so we can talk you through the dish so you enjoy it fully. As we promise no chicken skin is served here. Best wishes to you and thank you once again for your lovely review. N.

Perfectly nice but different to how it's been on previous visits over quite a few years. The atmosphere was always superb, now it feels ok The welcome was always amazing, now it's ok. The food was always flavoursome, exciting and beautifully cooked and presented. Now it's ok. The music was always a weird choice for that pub - still is. As I say, perfectly pleasant and nothing to complain about (even though the food appeared to be about 25% dearer than last visit), but it now isn't likely to jump to mind as number 1 choice in Ringwood for me.

Hi Mark J. Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am sorry you felt everything to be “just ok”. We feel too the buzz has very much been taken away from our trade by and since covid. And possibly the lack of the landlord being there, who’s incredibly unwell - may have something to do with the feel being a little flat currently. It’s a worrying time. Our new chef since re opening after covid has received some of the best feedback of any pre covid chef we have ever had so that’s a real shame you didn’t feel the same, and we feel the same grievance about pricing - however they have had to go up, we held onto every increase for the last 3 years but have had to come in line with rises by all our suppliers and providers, and could not absorb it any longer. With regards to background music, we tend to play easy listening music of all genres and eras, I’m really not sure what music is of keeping with a 400 year old pub, if you return to us for another visit do please introduce yourself, and I would as a music lover - be very happy to hear your suggestions, being introduced to new music and artists is always exciting. All the very best of wishes to you. N, The Star Inn.

We know the pub well as I went to school with Ian the landlord. We visited on a cold Weds night - the place was busy which was great to see. Amazing food and service. They had a sign up saying they only had 1 chef and to bear with them but we didnt wait long at all. I had steamed seabass with ginger and steamed rice - it was delicious and fresh Well done The Star - keep up the good work

I was recommended this place for a takeaway for which I had no idea existed. I arrived to have a pint and place my order to find a busy friendly pub. The bar lady was new but very warm and friendly as was the manager. This is quite possibly one of the best Thai meals I have ever had. Fantastic food, and nice place . Next time I think I will be eating in . Well done .

The food was the best in town with good service. this visit was bad. my beer was 18mm from the top and at £6 a pint was a bad start to the evening. They must of lost their cooks as the food was a joke. both dishes of sweet and sour prawns and pork had a mass of whole cherry tomatoes, and very little prawn and pork. the staff were lacking hospitality skills and not very smart. Its a sad loss of such a great pub.

Hello again Ian, I have responded to your other review on another site and have replied to the emails you have sent. So I find it a little unkind to write another review, however you do have the right to voice your complaint how ever and as many times as you feel you should. The photo of the pint you sent was Timothy Taylor’s - priced at £5.00 not £6.00. A tricky beer, very lively and served through a sparkler, a beer we have our Cask Marque award for - and being such a creamy lively beer, it can be unnoticed when busy that it hasn’t settled as it should in the glass if served too quickly after pouring - And as a gesture of goodwill I have offered you a refund for this drink. As I have said in other correspondence, it is a shame you have taken to review sites and not just spoken with a member of staff at the time of your visit as it really could have and would have been so easily resolved. We have changed chefs yes - as you said in your other review you have not visited us in the last two years - and the Head Chef then is not our current one - she did not return after the Covid closures - our new Head Chef Ponn, has a completely different style so yes dishes are different, the meat/prawn portions reflect the costs currently and his style with Tomatoes in the Sweet and Sour dishes is the authentic “Thai” way but we do understand it is not to everyone’s taste, and many prefer the more westernised way our previous chef served this dish. Every chef change we have had - which have been few, each has had a particular and personal approach. The night in question you visited (04/11) was extremely busy and we did have a staff on who were only working to enable both myself and the landlord to attend his fathers funeral, so I feel a little understanding that they may have been under pressure in this busy service without us and that mistakes made were genuine mistakes made by staff trying their best with little experience to help us on our difficult day. That said we do sincerely apologise for the dissatisfaction you felt and have offered to refund and make it up to you should you wish to allow us the opportunity too. We aren’t a “loss” just yet we are very much still in business and the amount of other guests we welcome and particularly on the night in question very much suggests we are still here and still providing a nice place to visit to drink and dine in the town. Wishing you all the very best and as said before, please do contact us to arrange your refund.

We visited this pub whilst visiting the new forest. The food was wonderful, full of flavour, nicely presented. The pub was busy with both drinkers and people dining. Just one gentleman behind the bar, so it took a while to get our drinks, he was very apologetic. The food arrived quickly and was the lovely. Would definitely visit again if in the area.
