Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel was luxurious and beautifully warm. The fires were roaring and the atmosphere was calm and cosy. The staff were all extremely welcoming and professional. We had a lovely time. The Terrace restaurant was not open during our visit so we ate in Monty’s which was informal and relaxed but the food was delicious.

What a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. Spent three nights here with family celebrating a special birthday. The staff couldn't have been more lovely and attentive from breakfast to dinner. We stayed in one of the Courtyard Retreat Rooms (The Fig) with our dog, and everything was perfect. Nice touches for the children, hamper for the dog and champagne on ice for the birthday boy. We ate in Monty's for dinner each night, which was also great with excellent food and catered for the dog! You really couldn't do much better than stay here for any reason. My daughter says she misses the big bathtub already! Hope to visit again soon.

We had a two night stay with friends. The experience was as good as ever with all the staff being as helpful and friendly as ever.... Nothing is ever too much trouble. The rooms were welcoming and homely. We ate in both the pub and the restaurant and in both cases the food was delicious. See you all next year and thank you to everyone at the Montagu Hotel a wonderful experience.

We had a fabulous overnight stay at The Montagu Arms Hotel last night. We were made to feel so welcome by the staff, as was our dog Noah (who was greeted with some lovely treats and everything he could need for a lovely stay)! We stayed in the beautiful Maple Room (23) which was so pretty, cosy and with lovely views of the garden. Beaulieu is a very pretty place and very well positioned to explore the New Forest. Breakfast was delightful. Overall could highly recommend a stay here!

We make every attempt to visit Montagu Arms at least once a year. The hotel is ideally located to explore the beautiful New Forest area and coastline. The hotel provides a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. Off street parking is secure and plentiful with a short and pleasant walk into the hotel. There is a good choice of rooms to suit individual preferences. We find the rooms warm, comfortable and clean. The staff are very polite and whilst clearly well trained, pleasingly they are not frightened to engage in friendly and respectful chat. The food is delicious. If you prefer a little less formal evening dinning, next to the hotel is Monty's (part of the hotel) which serves a good selection of tasty food. We have eaten there and were not disappointed. The gardens are pretty and well maintained making the view from the Terrace restaurant pleasant and relaxing. Overall, Montagu Arms Hotel is our place to stay when in the area. Thank you to all at the hotel for our enjoyable stays. We look forward to many more. See you in July.

This is my 2nd visit to this hotel for afternoon tea. From the moment we arrived in reception the welcome from staff was first class. We were shown to our table then the afternoon tea was brought to us. The food was amazing. Our overall experience was first class. Thanks to all involved

I went to an event in the village to watch my friend sing in the Victorian Christmas event. There was a stall outside, run by the hotel, selling mulled wine and food. I asked for a glass of mulled wine at 4.45pm only to be told they weren't serving until 5pm. This wasn't a problem until I saw her serving people 2 minutes later. I decided to go further into the village and had a lovely glass of mulled wine from a very friendly lady. To say I found this attitude disappointing would be an understatement and as a first and last impression it wasn't good.

I booked a stay for my wife's 60th birthday next February, because the Montagu Arms has always been a special place for her... and became so for me. She has been a regular visitor for over 30 years, she celebrated her 30th birthday there, we had our honeymoon there, and we have had many other stays there, all of which up until now have been excellent. But though I booked our stay back in April of this year, ten months in advance of our planned stay, and the reservation was confirmed and a hefty deposit taken, I was phoned yesterday to be told the hotel was full and they could not accommodate our booking. Clearly it was not full back in April when I booked... what they mean is that they are not prepared to honour my booking because they can get a better deal from somebody else (presumably a large group). We were offered alternative accommodation at Caries Manor, but that is not what I wanted and not what I booked. It is apparent that any booking you make must be regarded as provisional and liable to be cancelled on a whim. I am certainly not prepared to book again on that basis, and a long and happy relationship with this hotel is now ended.

Amazing!!! Such a lovely hotel in a lovely location. I stayed in the Hayloft and it was so worth the money. Lovely little touches of flapjacks and milk in the fridge. The bath is massive with underfloor heating throughout the downstairs which was lovely, would definitely get that if i won the lottery 😀 There is a lovely little garden centre around the corner with a few little shops. If you are in doubt whether to pick this hotel than book it! You will not regret it!
