What a disgrace. Sandwiches that had obviously been made in the morning and left out, that were barely filled. Cakes that were dry and inedible. Only good part were the scones. No sugar offered with drinks.

I havent stayed here but regularly have business meetings in the cafe, which is cosy and ideal to get to for many of my clients. So popped into the restaurant on Saturday with my husband - had an excellent Christmas lunch, not too busy, and delicious food. Tommy the waiter was

Thank you so much, your review of Outsidein Restaurant at Beales Hotel is like a balm to the collective soul of all at Beales Hotel after the reviews below yours. We have over 65 hard working staff members at the hotel, and all have much appreciated your comments, coming as they do during a busy season where so many guests have had such a lovely time, but where you would not believe it if you just read TripAdvisor. In times past a satisfied guest would tell about 3 others whereas an unhappy guest would tell about 10. These days sadly, complimentary reviews like yours are much thinner on the ground than the few dissatisfied guests who seem to be in a majority on forums such as this but in fact are a tiny percentage of all our guests. So thank you again, your comments are wonderful and are sincerely appreciated by all of us. I wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. Kindest regards, Andrew Beale Managing Director Beales Hotels

I absolutely agree with the review that was posted before mine! They had a real bad experience and I can say we had even worse! The only one thing that was good was the magician! Firstly the executive twin room booked - had nothing executive about it - I have stayed in much

What a sad review, While we are very sorry for any shortcomings in service, it is fair to say that we knew long in advance of this Christmas party that we would be pilloried in this way. The background is that we have an offer of one free room for every 25 covers booked on our party nights. This compares most favourably with the competitor Mercure Hotel where the offer is one room for every 30 covers. This guest (who I will not identify) wanted a free room for just 20 covers. We patiently (and over many emails) explained that they did not qualify for the offer as they didn't have 25 covers booked. The offer could not be clearer. Instead we discounted a bedroom once, and then when I got involved, we discounted it further to 50% off and gave a complimentary full english breakfast as well. However the guest threatened our team with TripAdvisor during this process, and this review is the result. We will not tolerate blackmail of any kind. What a sad indictment of society that people are reduced to threatening long established and decent family businesses in this way. And of course the dialogue is entirely one way on TripAdvisor as I will not identify this guest who can remain hidden behind a cloak of anonymity. We have had many lovely comments about party nights at Beales Hotel this Christmas so this review and the review below it do not tell a true or balanced story at all, although I repeat we are sorry for shortcomings experienced. Terrible. If you are booked for a Christmas Party night at Beales Hotel, you still have time to find an alternative! This is an over priced and unexceptional experience that will not fill you with Christmas cheer. Our party of ten spent last night here and in every aspect of

Sorry that you didn't enjoy your Christmas party at Beales Hotel. We are profoundly shocked by your review, and believe that although this may be your experience, it is not representative of all the guests on the night in question. We have spent a long time with your colleague discussing this, and suffice to say, although there are always improvements that can be made, your review is extremely harsh on the hard working team of staff at the hotel who did their best to put on a happy event for your group. We categorically deny many of the allegations in your report, but I am not going to get into a tit for tat response. We are only sorry that you thought to spoil our reputation in this very public forum, and are equally sorry that there is so little Christmas cheer in this review. My wife and I stayed for 3 nights as we have on several occasions over the years. Tends to be an annual event while attending a sports event at the local centre. The Hertfordshire Village at the Uni Campus is only a few minutes walk. The hotel is a low level property over 3

Thank you for your kind review of Beales Hotel, I am glad that you have enjoyed your visits over the years, consistency being high on the priority list of every hotelier, and very difficult to achieve over the long term, or even from one week to the next. We have now had the hotel open since 2004, but it doesn't feel dated, which is testament to the high level of architectural design and effort that we put into the build. And we have been running hotels on this site since 1964. Do come again, and thank you for your custom over so many visits. Kind regards, Andrew Beale Managing Director Beales Hotels

Check-in is usually 2pm, but they have always asked me for expected time of arrival. I have on some occasions arrived earlier and if the room is ready they are happy to let you check in. Check out us 11am.
