We booked this hotel last minute, we wanted somewhere close to Harry Potter tour. We also choose this hotel based on its breakfast reviews. After booking we had an email too say they were not serving breakfast.
When we arrived there was a notice that the reception was closed and to call a number to book in. The owners wife arrived about 5 minutes later. She gave us as large bag of breakfast provisions - porridge, croissants, muffins, cereal bars, apples, juice and tea/coffe sachets.
The room was a lovely large room with a comfortable sofa bed for our son. There bathroom was large and a lovely hot shower.
If I'm being really picky the room furnishings looked a little tired, but on the whole the room was light, airy and clean.

Boxmoor Lodge used be a hotel. Now it’s a very nice, friendly B&B. Their rooms in the courtyard setting are well appointed, plainly and in offensively decorated. Crisp, white bedding, tasteful furnishings, tea/coffee making facilities and a small television all give a welcoming air to the experience of staying here. The en-suite in the room we had (4), while smallish, was perfectly acceptable with shower over bath, all very clean with some nice toiletries. Very friendly, helpful staff and good breakfasts. The Boxmoor is in a very convenient location, close to the railway station, pubs and nice walks in easy reach. Sensibly priced too. Excellent all round.

On arrival I telephoned the number provided on the door and was directed to my room. My room was clean. Lovely, pristine white bedding and the bed was so comfortable - I had 2 nights' deep uninterrupted sleep 😎 breakfast was gorgeous- Sonia (Lovely waitress) was so patient as she liaised with the chef about my food intolerances. Mark was so friendly, welcoming and chatty. I will definitely stay here again 😊

We booked here last minute, the hotel manager was friendly and helpful when booking. We were really disappointed in the quality of the room when we arrived: The room smelt musty and the furniture was dirty. The bedding & bathroom however was clean! There were a few cobwebs around the room and the carpet, chair and sofa bed could do with an update or a deep clean. The tv remote was dirty and the kettle had limescale inside and around the spout. We asked the hotel manager if they had a clean kettle for us to use and he said ‘it was just limescale & they were in a high calcium water area’. This was a pretty poor excuse, a descaling every so often wouldn’t go amiss. We had to clean it ourselves! The beds were small and uncomfortable and the room overcrowded with furniture. At breakfast they could not provide appropriate seating for our two year old, they offered us a high chair that looked like it had been pulled out of a garage after a good few years of use, like something you would find in a tip; we opted to prop her on a cushion instead. There was one person attending at breakfast who was helpful, we had to wait some time however to be served. The breakfast was cooked nicely. We stayed one night and decided to pack up our things a day early and leave this hotel.

Pretty lodges, spotlessly clean with nice easy-going service.
The price included breakfast which was lovely. Even the continental breakfast is lush, with fresh fruit salad, compote, yogurts and freshly baked croissants.
The host was lovely and accommodating and it felt like going to someone's home where they want you to have plenty to eat before you leave!
The outside is quite noisy due to its location and I opened the windows, realising after that a fan had actually been left in our room.
I think it is important to note that it is more of a B&B than a hotel and if rated as a B&B fully deserves its rating of a 5 star review.

Nice overnight stay. Quiet ground floor room (14)
Good continental breakfast. All you need for a comfy stay.

You need to pay extra for cooked breakfast, but toast and cereals, pastries and yogurts and fruit are included in room rate.

Nice clean bathroom. Decent sized space in the rooms.

Lovely stay in a very clean room with a comfy bed. Room was spacious and bathroom was modern. Breakfast was very good and very reasonable - continental is included and cooked is a small additional cost. There are veggie/vegan options too. The train station is a 7 min walk from the accommodation and the trains take 30 mins direct to Euston. Car park is free and you can park close to your room. The staff were all absolutely excellent and super friendly. Next time I go to London I will definitely stay here again and recommend to friends 😊

Everything was perfect! As soon as we arrived we were welcomed, the room was good sized, clean, comfortable and had a fan that we very much appreciated during the summer heat! The bathroom is modern and very clean.

The breakfast was delicious and there was a large selection to choose from e.g. veggie, full english, cereal etc. We had the cooked breakfast and it was very yummy.

The lady who was serving the breakfasts was very polite and kind.

You can tell the Manager loves what he does, he was extremely helpful and lovely to have a chat with.

We decided to visit the Boxmoor Lodge based on previous glowing reviews, and we are so so glad we did stay with them.

Thank you to all the team who made our stay fantastic.

The room was very clean and simply furnished the bathroom though no large was very tastefully done and lovely big towels. The bed was very comfortable. Ample parking. Slightly disappointed in the breakfast the croissant was one from a packet and not very tasty perhaps try a different supplier. I contacted the hotel in advance for soya milk and they were happy to get some in. My husband had the cooked breakfast which he said was very nice and good value. I felt that maybe pot of hot water with the tea would be nice. We had a good comfortable stay and will book again next time we visit family

This hotel ticks all the boxes: great value, well-appointed rooms, friendly and helpful staff, on-site parking, easy walking from Hemel train station (with easy connections to London), continental breakfast (cooked costs a bit but the porridge is free !!). Do not be put off by the telephone reception, it works a treat. We think the secret of its success is the hands-on involvement by the friendly and professional owners. We used to book AirBnb accommodation on our frequent visits to family in the area but the escalating costs and the often amateurish support tempted us to try this hotel. Not only have we been back several times but we hope to return many times in the future. And no, in case you are wondering, we have no connection with the hotel apart from being grateful guests, Hans and Jan
