Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Church House really came through for me when a planned stay with family required modification at the last minute... what an absolute gem! My stay in Kington was made all the more special because of Andrew and Liz -- and their "grandog," Coco. The house itself is gorgeous and interesting and very comfortable, but it was Andrew and Liz as hosts that made my two-night stay truly special... I was welcomed in as if I were an old friend, which I very much appreciated. Conversation was warm and easy, and Andrew's breakfast was scrumptious! My stay at Church House was so much more than I could have expected. When I'm back to visit family again I will make a point of -- at the very least -- popping by to say hello to Andrew and Liz. It was that special of an experience.

Church House is fabulous. My two brothers and I stayed for a weekend late September so we could walk Hergest Ridge and tick one of our bucket-list boxes. More a home-from-home than a Guest House and the hosts, Andrew and Lis, bent over backwards to make our stay as restful and relaxing as they could with their ‘nothing is too much trouble’ approach. Fancy a cuppa? Then Andrew was always happy to oblige. Perfectly appointed on the outskirts of Kington, the property is just a stone’s throw from Offa’s Dyke Path. The town centre with its shops, watering holes and eateries is also just a short walk away. Obviously a much-loved family home, it is difficult not to get enveloped by the warmth and comfort that this property emanates. Yes the floorboards creak a bit, yes the odd leaf may blow in through a window, so if you would prefer the anonymity and solitude of a sterile hotel experience (with teabags, UHT milk and little packets of biscuits in your room) then Church House is probably not for you. We, however, loved it!

I stayed a night at Church House whilst walking Offa's Dyke. I sum up the stay as feeling like a house guest rather than a paying guest. A beautiful house right on the path so no extra walking with friendly and attentive hosts.

Despite looking like drowned rats, we were warmly welcomed, and all wet clothes, shoes, rain-covers, etc hung over and near the Aga. This ensured that everything was nicely dry this morning. Our room was elegantly appointed and very comfortable. A house full of books always makes us feel better! Breakfast this morning was a treat, with homegrown stewed fruit and preserves. We're sure that our stay at Church House helped us to get through a tough, wet day on Offa's Dyke.

I had the most superb stay at Church House. Andrew and Elisabeth are the most incredible hosts. Unfortunately my stay was only for one night and I was out for the evening I checked in and left early in the morning, however I was made to feel incredibly welcome. It’s really important to stress that this is their home and it isn’t run as a B&B or hotel, however you will want for nothing, so obliging are the hosts. I really do look forward to staying again in the near future as my dog and I walk the local paths. Many thanks to Andrew and Elisabeth for having me in their home.

Church House was an idyllic setting, the gardens are beautiful and the house itself is a wonderful, old home with lots of lovely touches. Andrew and Liz are wonderful hosts, bringing us tea and cake in the afternoon and providing a wonderful full breakfast each morning. We stayed in the double bedroom which was lovely and spacious, the bathroom was not en-suite (Andrew made me aware of this before we arrived) but it added somehow to the charm of the stay. Kington is ideally suited for walks on Offa's Dyke and Hergest Croft garden was just around the corner. We had travelled to Kington to enjoy the countryside and to visit the Hay on Wye book festival. It was only 20 mins or so from Hay so ideally located. We are already planning our return trip, it was a magical stay and we would fully recommend Church House.

Stayed here for one night, having walked the Offas dyke trail from Hay on Wye. We had a very friendly welcome from our hosts, Andrew & Lis, who provided tea & cake for us in their gorgeous sitting room on arrival. The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was served in the dining room overlooking the impressive gardens. We opted for a traditional breakfast which featured homemade apple juice, rhubarb & preserves from the garden. Andrew provided lots of information regarding the local pubs and eateries. We really enjoyed our stay here.
