Stayed here as a last minute booking ! What a treat, this is beautiful (was going to write hotel) but, honestly felt like I been let into a very special beautiful home. So many impressive pictures on the walls of who has stayed here, yachtsman, statesman, could spend hours just looking at the history of this place. If the walls had ears ! Amazing hospitality by the owner and all her staff. Breakfast was superb overlooking the Solent. Thank you for being unequivocally you ! It works and we loved it !

What a lovely hotel! We were here for the Isle of Wight Literary Festival and Maggie gave us a warm welcome. Our room was very comfortable, staff were really helpful, the location is very convenient, and breakfast was wonderful! We will definitely go back and stay there again.

Wonderful hotel full of character with friendly and attentive staff. Our room was at the front of the hotel so we didn't get the fabulous views across the Solent but the room was spotlessly clean and spacious. The breakfast was excellent, fabulous views from the dining room and lounge. The hotel is ideally situated for both the town and the promenade and our only regret is that we only had the one night here!

My room was spotlessly clean and spacious with an incredible view over the sea. Great selection at breakfast and friendly staff. I accidentally left an item behind in my room. I got in touch with the hotel and Jay sent it out to my home on next day delivery which was much appreciated! Will definitely be staying here again on my next visit to the IOW!

We stayed at the Villa Rothsay last week for 2 nights. Our room classed as ‘Deluxe with balcony’ was located at extension via separate entrance with beautiful views from the balcony. The building, its historical contents, and furniture reflect the quality expected, and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The room was a good size, but it fell far short in a few areas in terms of cleaning/upkeep. Wall from kettle to ceiling was marked (from steam?), chest of draws top was very dusty and draw liners were stained. The bathroom wasn’t clean and shoddily maintained, with fixtures chipped, mouldy and full of grime. The light pull string was filthy, unhygienic and would cost pennies to replace. Tiles around sink and toilet were not clean, shower door fittings mouldy, and extractor fan unbelievably dusty - at eye height so can’t be missed by anyone, including cleaning staff. There is no sound insulation between floors. Every activity above us was heard: voices, creaking floorboards, sounds from their bathroom(!), pipe noises (like jet taking off) when shower/toilet used. I was woken up before 7am every morning! Common areas need a good clean and refurbishment – ripped carpet, fraying rugs ‘fixed’ with duct tape in the dining room, dirty windows and mirrors covered with cobwebs. Overall, we were very disappointed and feel ripped off considering we paid their top rate (£210 per night) for a ‘Deluxe room’.

We stayed at Villa Rothsay for a weekend to celebrate an anniversary. The public rooms in the main house are comfortably furnished, with high ceilings, period features and good views across the Solent. We were accommodated in the extension, which lacked the Victorian charm, but had a great good view. The 'honesty' bar is a great idea, but we were a little surprised to pay pub prices for a DIY pour of an average merlot. That said, our hostess was very generous in providing a bottle of fizz to help us celebrate and in driving us to the ferry terminal on a wet Monday morning. Overall, we would recommend.

The good: quirky, nautical, historical, beautiful views from the rooms and balcony and nice breakfast . The not as great: no soundproofing in the rooms so we could hear every step taken in the room above, room smelled musty on arrival and beds were hard.

This gorgeous and charming hotel is a real gem. I am just back from a lovely one night stay and everything about this hotel made the trip super special. Wonderful property with fantastic bedroom- soo luxurious comfortable clean and quiet. Plus a stunning sea view and balcony. Public rooms are all very special too. Breakfast was first class. The staff are so friendly making it a really lovely stay. I felt like I’d been away for more than just one night. I’ll be back

A classic, Victorian hotel so beautifully decorated for Christmas. Big room, well appointed. Clean and well furnished. Not hyper modern, but genuine. Staff were great. The “lounge” dinner for the England-v-France match was first class. Fish and chips, well cooked and nicely served. Honesty bar, so civilised.

I have booked Villa Rothsay for 2 nights exactly a week ago. it was a business trip for my husband, while I took an advantage to explore Cowes. As soon as we arrived at TheVilla Rothsay we knew it was going to be a special stay! We were greeted on the doorsteps by our wonderful host Margaret. She walked with us to our room, which was outstanding room with the sea view. We have stayed in the most exclusive hotels in a world, but our room was one of the most comfortable to be in! My husband and I liked it so much we could have moved in any time! I went for a long walk that evening, and got very wet. However, Margaret took care of my jacket and shoes, and I had them dry and clean next morning! We had a nice , freshly prepared breakfast. The visit to Osborne House only added to the whole wonderfulness of our visit! My highlight was sitting in one of the drawing rooms of the hotel, where Margaret have joined me for a good and informative talk about the hotel and history of Cowes!! Please, do read the history of Villa Rothsay-It is fascinating!!
